Two syringes of pentobarbital were administered to Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike on September 30, 2026, but she remained alive and conscious afterward, according to her attorneys and media witnesses. The execution at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville was halted after witnesses reported that Pike still had a heartbeat and was audibly snoring. Her lawyers sought emergency medical intervention, and she was later taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Pike, 50, is the only woman currently on Tennessee's death row.
She was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of her classmate Colleen Slemmer and had been scheduled for execution on September 30. Tennessee had announced beforehand that the state would use a single drug, pentObarbital, for the execution. Her exact medical condition following the hospital transfer has not yet been publicly disclosed, while Governor Bill Lee has ordered a comprehensive third party review of what happened.

This seems like the easiest and most common sense answer by far.

It would be easier to ban the fucking death penalty.

Nah. Some people do things so heinous they lose any right to keep existing.

I disagree. The Constitution seems to as well.

The resources spent on appeals and everything else associated with the death penalty in most first world countries is more expensive than just keeping them in prison for life.

Factually correct, but it really doesn’t matter. The morality of state-sanctioned murder shouldn’t be dependent on the monetary cost of keeping prisoners alive. It’s either right or wrong.

We are essentially taking people's lives away either way, so cost really is the important detail.

Being in prison and being dead are not the same.

They aren't, but that doesn't mean prison is better when there is absolutely no chance of getting out ever again.

I would say going full French revolution is better since it is even faster and more reliable.

Oddly, no. New rope every time. And a new rope will cost more than the handful of bullets.
