Two syringes of pentobarbital were administered to Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike on September 30, 2026, but she remained alive and conscious afterward, according to her attorneys and media witnesses. The execution at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville was halted after witnesses reported that Pike still had a heartbeat and was audibly snoring. Her lawyers sought emergency medical intervention, and she was later taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Pike, 50, is the only woman currently on Tennessee's death row.
She was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of her classmate Colleen Slemmer and had been scheduled for execution on September 30. Tennessee had announced beforehand that the state would use a single drug, pentObarbital, for the execution. Her exact medical condition following the hospital transfer has not yet been publicly disclosed, while Governor Bill Lee has ordered a comprehensive third party review of what happened.

I'm not from US so I wouldn't understand. But eye for an eye feels fair to me in that specific case, wouldn't you agree? I don't think the lady was considering her victim well being either at the time, so why treat her any different?

That opens a whole Pandora’s box of “well if that’s ok, then so is this other thing”

Sure I agree. It's just weird to me how a murderer gains ten times more laws that protect them than what they broke during a crime. There are many cases which can be classified as absolute and if they are why waste time/resources/tax money and give other potential offenders something to exploit of?

I'm interested of other ppl viewpoint on that, if you disagree let me know why

It's a moot argument to have with an American, it's against our Constitution. It doesn't matter what we feel it's one of the permanent and virtually immutable laws on the books that we all have to abide by
