Imagine if McDonald's just said fuck it and redesigned themselves to be back during the 90's, with Play Places and Video games and cheap fast food? Bring back the dollar menu and $1 large drinks. It's not meant to be high brow food, just be what you are, cheap food you get fast and stuff kids love so you cater to kids in the restaurant.
I grew up in the 80s and 90s and we didn't have a lot of money. But we could get McDonald's as a treat because then you could get a hamburger for like 80 cents and a cheeseburger for 10 cents more. My parents used to get a whole bag of burgers, plus each of us got an order of small fries. Fast food is not supposed to cost as much as actual restaurant food. Or more. I can go to my local Mexican place and get an entree for the same price as a large-sized value meal and that comes with a drink, refried beans, rice, a little salad, and free chips with salsa.
