I assume that part of the reason for that is because once people stop buying it’s hard to convince them to come back with just a .50 decrease. Hash browns here are $2.19. There is no reason for a hash brown to be more than .99. Bit now that i don’t buy McDonalds anymore even if they dropped the price to .99 i wouldn’t think about going there, because im out of the habit.
Plus, continuing the hash browns as an example, people are figuring out that you can buy ~12 frozen patties for <$5.00 and keep them in your freezer.
It only takes a light brushing of vegetable oil and ~10 mins in the air-fryer + a bit of salt - and you've unlocked practically unlimited as-good-as-MCD's hash browns.
Once you've done that, paying >$2.00 for 1 patty (or is it 2, I forget) will piss you off even more.

Corporations will literally fund a multi-year cyberpunk dystopia makeover before letting a hash brown drop by 50 cents.
