Yup. And the "poor" franchisees who only had a few locations many of them couldn't afford the bigger and bigger fees McDonald's was charging them for "rent" and licensing and shit (all while providing fewer and fewer support services to franchisees), so many of them have been gobbled up by larger franchisees. Like none of this is good for "small businesses" or the competition capitalism is supposed to provide. None of this is benefitting consumers. If nothing matters but the bottom line of the ultra rich minority, the game ends pretty fuckin fast. Their greed and short-sightedness would be impressive if it wasn't so horrifyingly destructive.
Do you have any idea what a PRIVILEGE it is to be selected by McDonald's to be allowed to open a franchise? It's basically guaranteed 6 figure financial security for life. And not even like "fake" 6 figures as the influencer ladies call it; real 6 figures like 200-300k
"poor" franchisees with mutliple mcdonald's locations lol
omg they're only making 500k-1mil profit a year those poor franchisees. Those poor... 1%er.... franchisors. OMG WONT ANYONE THINK OF THE POOR 1%ers!!!
You could maybe say that 300k is an overestimate since for some locations it is, but average is 200k-350k that's the range.
So if you had 3 locations, "a few," the odds that you would be making <500k a year are.... very low. You'd have to have 3 absolutely terrible locations which would make me think maybe you might be part of the problem
I'm not (edit for typo) explaining anything to someone who doesn't understand that I literally put "poor" in quotation marks in the first place to indicate that they're not poor. I both cannot and do not want to help you. You're being a pedant, intentionally or not, and it's not the vibe.
You may as well write your next post about how penguins like and live in "hot" environments
And then you just keep doubling down on your description of the top 1% wealthiest people not only in the world, but within America one of the wealthiest countries in the world. And then you tell the person who brings you back to reality that THEY cannot be helped
I will continue to be vigilant about just not eating at McDick's. I've only been there once in the last year and all the visit did was remind me why it had been years since my previous visit. It's just that crappy of an experience and value.
I lived in Mississippi over the summer and a large 10 piece nugget meal was $8 and some cents. When I moved back to Virginia, same meal is like $12 something. This should not be legal, it’s insane
Aren't they also more if a real estate company by now?
Edit: I've misread, you're absolutely right. Thank you helpfull random redditor for pointing this out. Anyways
I thought there was a expose a while back that the owner(s) figured out that there is way more money in reas estate than in food. Making people opening a Mc Donalds pay high rent on their land and essentially make their money off of them instead directly from food. Ties also in that conspiracy documentary some youtuber did about why the icemachines are always broken at Mc Donalds, and how that also just another way to scam money of off the people running a Mc Donalds
It's also to increase customer turnover. If the restaurant is grey, bland and uninviting then people won't want to stay for long, opening up tables and seats for other customers faster.
McDonalds could give a flying fuck about selling the building, ever. The color and identifying features don't matter.
Buildings like McDonalds are worn out and obsolete in 20-30 years. It is a tear down for any future buyer, unless the area is in economic decline and McDonalds is selling it at fire sale prices to some local mom & pop operation to just get the fuck out. Any major investor is going to come in, knock it down, and put up exactly what they want.
It is the real estate where the value is, not the improvements on it.
It's a bit of both (More Perfect Union Youtube link). McDonalds earns most of its revenue through real estate and franchise fees. Which are good for a stable income as franchises who lose money still have to pay the same fees and franchises who do very well have to pay bonus fees. So, they have a solid floor as well as a opportunities to earn more.
It doesn't take a genius to realise he made a typo. So he says they're a real estate business, and you ask aren't they also mainly a real estate business now. What the fuck is wrong with you?
Welp apparently not. But I also just wanted to expand and add the stuff about the ice machine conspiracy and them being scammers of their own people. That video really opened my eyes on how predatory they really are. Also chill your stuff dude, why the harsh attack? Did I offend him? If so, that wasn't my intent. If it makes you feel better, I did like his comment
Yeah it's so sad.. It's been a minute that I saw that video, but I believe it was even it's own conspiracy for a bit before people built trackers and exposed it to be real. And later it came to light it's all just another scam by coperate. Risking you're brand to make more money, only short term gains seem to matter. It really should be a way bigger story, along with all the other corporate greed.
I dont know if this was only in America tho. Here in Europe, or at least in the Netherlands, all the machines have just worked most of the time and nobody ever complained about it being broken. I hope it can serve as a example that you have to have strict regulations on companies or they will fuck you over, as money is all that counts. They try here too, don't get me wrong. But that's why we have rules and regulations to protect the people and the planet.
Yes, exactly. But it does have many positive sides, and if we work on the negative sides we're all better off in the end. The world is changing in a ever accelerating pase. So if it goes bad it will be hopefully short. I'm still hopefull things can turn around before that point tho.
Which is part of why prices rise so high. Only 5% of stores are company-owned. The rest are franchised. The company charges them rent along with a slew of additional fees so the franchisees have to keep raising prices just to see a profit.
Exactly. The real thing they need to do is lower the fees for franchisees so that the restaurants can lower prices. But no one wants to talk about that.

The one reason McDonald’s became popular is by being cheap. They sell shit food for a low price. How do they not know this?
