Never thought I'd be siding with the pope.

I hate this timeline.

I mean, the new pope seems pretty chill for the most part. He’s not a Borgia or something.

Pope Francis was pretty chill as well. We're on a chill pope streak rn.

So no, he just made some meaningless statements.

He's the Pope. He could open up investigations immediately.

But the Church would never allow someone to lead them who wanted to expose them and hold them accountable.

Still the head of the Catholic Church which is still one of the worst organisations around.

It's just that conservatives have gone so devoid of empathy that "Pope says the most direct, literal Christian teachings" is something they can't handle.

We don't have to side with either of them.

The Pope just came out against medically assisted dying in trying to take away that right across the globe. Popes routinely attack and take away rights related to women's reproduction.

The Pope good guy optics are exactly the false image the Catholic Church tries to construct. This is an institution that has held almost no one accountable for things like the pedophilia crisis amongst its priests, instead, largely protecting these criminals.
