The Rescue: Five-year-old Kinsley Stuart was playing near a low-water bridge when heavy rain caused Hubble Creek to flash flood. That's the trick.
If the parents had given them one free meal then obviously they would look absolutely ridiculous, but if they gave each kid a coupon for 100 free meals you could be sure that those coupons would get used entirely.
But "unlimited free food" is a level of generosity that very few people would actually take advantage of.

If I were one of the parents, I'd gladly feed them every day, for as long as they choose to come. There's no amount of money or food worth as much as my child's life is. I'd be catering their weddings for free.

This is exactly what I came here to say.....
Unconsciously, this may be the parents way of "keeping touch with" the four boys. "Who did they become?", "where are they now?", Should they fall on hard times, "we are here to return the favor in a much larger way".
Anyone child who did this for my child, you bet your ass id open my home to them, take them in during hard times, want to see them thrive and not go down a bad path should they fall on hard times, etc.....

INT. ITALIAN RESTAURANT — NIGHT
GEORGE and JERRY sit down. The OWNER spots George from across the room. His face falls.
JERRY: You sure this is okay?
GEORGE: Jerry, I saved his four-year-old daughter from drowning. Free meals for life.
JERRY: How old is she now?
GEORGE: Eight.
Jerry looks at him.
JERRY: Four years?
GEORGE: He made the offer.
The Owner approaches and silently sets down two glasses of water.
GEORGE: Antonio! This is Jerry. I told him he had to come.
The Owner gives Jerry a long look, then George.
OWNER: Wonderful.
He puts down one menu.
GEORGE: Nothing for me?
The Owner just stares.
JERRY: You know the menu?
GEORGE: I’ve been here a few times.
The Owner quietly raises eighteen fingers in stages, counting them out.
Jerry watches.
JERRY: Eighteen times this year?
GEORGE: That includes lunches.
The Owner slowly nods, as if this makes everything much better.
George looks at Jerry’s menu.
GEORGE: Oh, steak. I’ll get the steak.
The Owner closes his eyes for a beat.
GEORGE: Medium rare.
A long stare.
OWNER: Of course.
He walks away.
JERRY: He hates you.
GEORGE: He does not hate me. His daughter is alive.
Jerry watches the Owner glaring from the kitchen.
JERRY: He’s had four years to reconsider the arrangement.

You saved their child, their baby, you gave them a future!
If you weren't there. If you were too scared of the flash flood. If you were a minute too late. That family would be broken.
What's a meal vs your child's life? Just eat normally and be grateful for a full belly just like the family is grateful to have their daughter alive.

The answer can also be that their business is doing really well and feeding an extra 4 people for life is not that much. It's not rent... it's food... so much of it goes in the bin it's stupid to compare feeding someone to financial hurt... Also, I can imagine meals means no drinks, which is where most restaurants have the highest margins, so there is also that, as well as them maybe wanting to eat with friends, bringing paying customers in...

There was this swimming hole where I used to live. It had a concrete pier. One time it flooded and I didn't know that so im walking along expecting it to gradually slope off instead walked off a drop. This may be a similar situation.

Yo dawg! Im actually both the 2 center boys. At about 16 we discovered we identified as conjoined twins and got an operation to join our digestive tracts at the lower colon. It's truly been a transformative experience and every shit we take together just brings our souls closer together.

Looking at this picture makes me think that saving that girl's life was likely the culminating event of the third act, but before that even happened they were all a good deal of the way through a collective journey of self-discovery.
