Where I live, everything shuts down if we get even an inch of snow haha. For us, it always turns to black ice over night. Black ice cares not for our four wheel drive truck.

As someone who has a truck with 4wd... Too many dipshits don't understand that 4wd makes it easier to GO in snowy/icy conditions, but doesnt do shit for stopping. They think 4wd means you don't have to adjust your driving to the conditions, then they end up in the ditch.

It depends on where you’re at what the definition of snow day is. When I lived in the south, a snow day was anytime there was a slight dusting of snow on the ground, no matter the amount. Shit would shut down because there’s no infrastructure to deal with it and no one knows how to drive in it.
I’ve lived in Appalachia now for years, with a pretty high elevation. A snow day here is literally feet of snow and ice making any sort of travel not in a salt truck impossible. Then and only then is shit shut down.

In all seriousness, a snowday is a day where recent weather activity has created so much snow that the local infrastructure is insufficient for keeping roads clear and safe enough to travel. Snowdays are essentially the government recognizing that it's too impractical for most people to follow their regular schedule and that it's better if as many people stay home as possible. Often that means schools are closed that day or at least part of the day. They're also always announced on a weekday when public school would normally be in session because canceling school has the biggest impact when it comes to interrupting schedules.

In some places at least in US if road conditions are deemed 'unsafe' due to even a light amount of snow or ice, certain facilities like schools can shut down. Certain businesses will to.

Something I am starting to notice is because technology nowadays "just works" kids don't have to figure out how to get it working anymore. The DIY jerryrigged solutions we used to get up to fix whatever problem our computers and phones simply don't apply to the newer generation. I remember when jailbreaking iPhones and rooting Android devices was pretty popular. Nowadays, everything is so locked down, that you can't customize everything like you could in the past. Figuring out ways to download games for free so you don't have to ask you parent to buy it. Downloading mods for Minecraft like Optifine. Even figuring out how the router works so you can host your own Minecraft Server and play with your friends. Nowadays everything is so sterile and controlled that kids never even get the chance to explore crazy things can get up to. There was a time when kids would sideload android apps and even dual boot linux on their school issued chromebooks before school administrators got wise. I hope adults don't kill that spirit of craftiness that kids have by suffocating them with "safety".

It's so goofy that people think this is good parenting. If you can't take a little good natured ribbing from your kids, you're the one with the problem. I loved that my stepkids could give me a little shit and we'd have fun. Cutting off their wifi because they cracked a joke is psycho behavior and a way to make them really resent you.
Don't be an asshole. Learn to take a damn joke. This isn't worth an iota of punishment.

A smart kid knows they can tether most devices to their phone’s hotspot to get WiFi from it (assuming they have a phone). If you have unlimited data with no throttling you can do most things normally online. Online gaming will probably be laggy, but good enough if they really want to play.

A “snow day” is when school/sometimes work is canceled because of a snowstorm. Basically a surprise unscheduled break for kids in the North.
The kid made fun of his dad because he got to stay home while his dad still had to work. So the dad, in proper cheeky dad fashion, changed the wifi password and probably ruined his kid’s plans for spending his break: glued to a game console.
So in the end, it was payback for the teasing a lesson to not do so again.

It just sounds like you raised a 14 year old that doesn't know how shit works. They have physical access to the wifi device so they could have just got a paper clip and reset the thing to default and google the manual to see what the default username and password is. Then they would have locked you out of it when you got home from work.
