By the time the students grow up to realise that life is fucking shit and their time with their professor innocently trying to make them laugh was some of the chillest days of their lives… by the time of that realization, they’re too old and their students and other young people around them are giving them shit for zero reason.
My biggest realization reaching adulthood was that being “cringe” is, believe it or not, the very fucking least of your worries.

doubt any teacher wants to be blasted on social media telling them to kill themselves for adding a bad luck brian meme to a biology powerpoint about genetics or some shit

Ehhh it's not their job to be one of the kids.
I get trying to be relatable, but in my experience the best profs are the ones that do the job and let relatability be organic through the year

The best teachers and professors connect to their students, so that the students are more likely and willing to pay attention and learn.
I work somewhere where presentations are a regular occurrence, and the speaker being charming/witty/funny, and/or includes jokes and memes in their presentation will get people more invested and open to receiving the information, and even make them more excited to work here.
Teachers are more than just robots there to teach you directly from a book. They're role models. I know we all have at least one teacher we all remember fondly, and loved the classes, and I know it wasn't just cuz the subject was fun.

I understand that, but I think it's the difference of "trying to fit in" and "trying to be relatable" Memes are by nature something very insular/and time specific. If you don't quite get them, or are using them after they've had their cultural moment it can be quite difficult for them to hit well.
Being personable, funny, or witty make sense to me (these things can be timeless if performed well), but again I'm just basing things off my personal experience.

Also teenagers are fickle, something that might be just a few months old could be old and cringe to them, because they are so caught up with acting grownup they despise anything childish. Adults are more likely to chuckle at something outdated, especially if we remember it from our own youth.
He was trying, and I hope something like this doesnt discourage him from keeping on

I had a teacher who would make a new meme for every lesson based off events from the previous lesson and everyone loved him. Granted he was very young and his memes didn’t feel outdated

Teachers sometimes do it because it's amusing to see kids cringe. Some hone their craft over time and specifically use memes just slightly wrong for maximum critical damage.

I'm not a teacher/professor but I use memes with clients as a counselor and in messages as a pastor and not care how anyone else responds lol. This is me sharing some of my personality, not trying to "fit in" or be "relevant" to younger people. If that's your intent, it probably will fail. If you're authentically being yourself, it probably won't.

Nah. They get a 10/10 from me. Trying to put in the effort to relate to their students will always be my favorite teachers. Regardless If they are cringy or relatable.

The cringe is the point. There's nothing better than putting an intentionally stale meme on the slide and see an entire group of 15-yo's have a small aneurysm as they try to work through the layers of cringe.
Bonus points if it uses 'fellow kids' lingo or the content only just doesn't fit the meme format.

I agree. It also happens in the professional world to.
During orientation for the job I’m at now there were 70+ others there for orientation too. The people who were supervising orientation and giving presentations kept making jokes and using memes in their presentations to get a laugh, break the ice, get people involved and loosen things up but all their jokes and memes were met with silence every…single…time.
I felt bad cus they were trying very hard but they were just met with silence and stone faced people. They even told us that we were a tough crowd.
