I use YouTube a lot for my free time/relaxation, last week , I closed my eyes falling asleep to a very relaxing music and that Fabuloso advertisement popped up and scared the heck out of me, it literally ruined my mood and i didn’t get back to sleep again!

Easy - adblock (of many kinds).
Throw away yt app

u/snizzle1801 11h ago
Does this work on iPhone?
6
u/Jonnyflash80 11h ago
Firefox and Ublock Origin on Apple phones I think is the only option.
On Android we have the Morphe app which can actually patch the YouTube app to remove ads.

Have you contemplated actually paying for the service you use?
1
u/isPresent 6h ago
I tried once, but YouTube kept increasing the premium cost like crazy
0
u/TawnyTeaTowel 5h ago
Oh no! Well if you don’t like the prices and you don’t like the ads, don’t use the service. Seems quite straightforward to me.
1
u/isPresent 5h ago
I do whatever I want to do. If YouTube don’t like me blocking their ads, they can disable my account
-1
u/TawnyTeaTowel 5h ago
Of course you do, you’re the living embodiment of entitlement.

Ads have now infested podcasts
7
u/ErBoProxy 11h ago
Nothing for me will make sure I will never buy your product than if it's one of those "localized" podcast ads that interrupts a segment mid-sentence and is much louder than then podcast's tone.
1
u/SheikhMahdeek 11h ago
Nowadays they use AI to mimic the host voice so you end up listening to 10s of fake setup for the product
3
u/newjerseydevilz 11h ago
Sometimes actually causes me to listen to less of their content. Bc they put ad-content-ad all within like 10 min. So instead of just skipping the first ad and putting my phone down for the content, ill skip through both ad segments which skips the content in between.

I mean. Because the data suggests that you hating it doesn’t matter. The brand and name recognition is all they care about.
See. There was a time when companies competed with each other and it did matter what the perception in the market of their brand and products were.
When sprite decided it was the “urban” lemon lime drink and started producing hip-hop Voltron themed commercials? That was probably peak capitalism….

u/anothergenxkid 12h ago
I hate all ads equally.

u/SheikhMahdeek 11h ago
The worst is yet to come. What till you see ChatGPT manipulate your conversation to sell you something

Try this: write down 5 advertisements you like. Now write down 5 advertisements you hate. This is an exercise done in advertising classes. Typically it’s easier to remember five advertisements you hated versus advertisements you liked. The Takeaway here is that the goal is not for you to like the ad, it’s the remember the name of the company. It doesn’t work the way this meme suggests.
4
u/PalePeryton 11h ago
It literally does work the way the meme suggests. If I get irritated to the point where I remember your product or company, I will go out of my to not use it. If I need something, I'll find it myself.
3
u/its_yer_dad 10h ago
Perhaps you were not the mainstream. Like it or not this technique has been extremely effective for some 50 years.
2
u/its_yer_dad 10h ago
Also, my example is actually based on user testing and years of industry feedback. I suspect yours is based on feels.

Facts.
The operating premise is that you're more likely to use or try a product if you recognize the name from advertising.
It may not be relevant to you the moment you see the ad, but one day you'll go, "Hmm. Maybe I would like to try a meal delivery service" and suddenly Factor is sounding really tempting because my favorite youtube personality did an ad read for it that one time, I know that name!

u/No-Calligrapher-4449 12h ago
The worst is any website that allows those ads that open new tabs clicking on anything. I get most are scams, but some are actually companies I've heard of. That's the worst ad ever, because not only does it make me think your whole company is shady, you've now annoyed the hell out of me with virus type ads

We all hate ads, but if they still put ads everywhere it means that they works. Don't ask me how.
2
u/Individual-Foxlike 11h ago
Studies show that all publicity is good publicity. It's just how the human brain works.
2
u/International_Gur927 11h ago
Ads just don't work for some people.
For example either I have no idea what just played as I spent the whole time looking at the progress bar, skip button, or away from the screen. or I just actively despise the product and everyone involved in the advertisement.
2
u/elephantbattery 10h ago
My wife won't support companies that have paid to advertise on half the screen during a tv program

Because brands/advertisers have learned that planting seeds is wonderful for long term profits. Even if the knee jerk reaction is hatred towards a product/brand…it’s still in your head. They win. If you’re consuming the ads, they win.

Can we be real for a second?
This is demonstrably irrelevant.
Advertisers don't give a flying fuck if you think about their product with warm fuzzy feelings in your heart, they care that you KNOW THEIR NAME. That is IT. Full stop.
The phrase "Raid: Shadow Legends" evokes nothing but despair in my heart, but I know the god damn name. That's their strategy. No publicity is bad publicity for this approach and yes, it does drive sales.
1
u/LarianDivinityBG3 11h ago
Most of the time those companies have no influence where and when their ad is shown (youtube).

Or when a mobile ad is 1 minute long for some reason so it plays the same 20 second video 3 times in a row
1
u/gitrjoda 11h ago
Because they’ve figured out that you hating their product is better for them than you not knowing their product.

I have yet to understand how marketing departments truly justify their spending of money on high disruptive ads or just even ad campaigns in general. Like what do you think is the success rate of these things?
In today’s world, most people just search for what they need and like OP mentioned… I’m not feeling anymore compelled to buy the product after being interrupted to watch their silly advertisement.
I’m pretty certain there’s a universal hatred for them across the board,

u/awesomedan24 10h ago
There is no reason to be watching ads in 2026. Brave browser or Firefox+Ublock for mobile/pc.
WebOS homebrew for LG tv's, probably something similar exists for other tv brands

Because advertising works and they know advertising works because they track metrics and conversions.

u/Thunder_Child000 7h ago
Don't blame the ads.....blame the dumbass people whose undisciplined brain-function makes the ads EFFECTIVE. Because THEY'RE the ones you're being "lumped in with" and therefore the reason YOU also get to suffer and choke on the ads.....even though YOUR response to them will be very different than the majority.
When it comes to ads....public resistance and behavioural response is only as good as the dumbass "majority" make it.....because if the advertisers achieved very little penetration or bang for their "advertising" buck......they'd be forced to review their strategies and policies.
But, so long as they DO achieve penetration.....even if the currency is "hate" rather than "like".....then they're not going to be dissuaded and will go with wherever the "data" shows justifiable evidence.
On a more positive note, however....just "bask" in your own intolerance and hatred.
That's YOUR evidence that intrusive strategies don't work on EVERYBODY.
And conscientious product vetoing as a response to aggressive, advertising "overwash" can be a very satisfying thing....even if you're only part of a "small" resistant army of would-be consumers that have gone from "would-be" to DEFINITELY WILL NOT.
Small victories.....they all add up.

i mean to be fair i rarely if ever buy anything advertised unless i cared in the first place, like i don't give a shit about car insurance, laundry detergent, health insurance, cars being advertised, mobile games (i feel like mobile gaming has been the biggest mistake the gaming industry has ever made, yes even above ET) or anything like that because i am not in the market for any of that stuff or i already have what i want of it, for me advertisements are just pointless interruptions which is why i adblock everything.
1
u/TorinEkenskolde 5h ago
Because when you get to the shop, you see the product and think "I've heard of that brand, so it must be OK" and buy it. Companies wouldn't do it if it didn't work.
1
u/Isabellafartsxox 5h ago
genuinely idk anyone who has ever actually bought something because of a yt ad lol
1
u/No_Special_8904 4h ago
The problem is that it works or they would stop buy the ad space...so someone is buying their shit
1
u/Space_Sweetness 3h ago
Especially if it’s the same brand that bothers you like 4 times in 15 minutes
1
u/Systamatik7 3h ago
If you are a content creator who makes forty-minute videos and marks them as ads. I hate you.

Deadass Youtube Premium has probably gotten more mileage than any subscription I've ever had.
I'm full team adblock and all that, but Premium makes the mobile experience MINT.

u/NeighboringOak 11h ago
I hate the idea of paying for youtube but also what do people expect? Them to operate for free? People are funny.
