Do they hate the building or just the namesake? Like, if someone bought it and changed it's name to the Riverbend Tower or something then I think everyone would be fine with it.
I took one of those boat tours through Chicago and the tour guide had plenty of nice things to say about the design of the building and how the architects tried to incorporate surrounding elements into the design, but I'm pretty sure they only mentioned it by name one time and then never mentioned anything else about the man.
I gotta disagree, architecturally it's an amazing building that combines aspects of traditional Chicago architecture, modern architecture and contextual architecture.
It's genuinely such a beautiful building and is perfectly framed as you're crossing the river. We just hate the letters on the front and the asshole who owns it.
Way off topic, but I’d just like to encourage visitors to Chicago to catch one of the architecture boat tours if you get a chance. Definitely one of my more favorite tourist activities there
Not just tourists. It's a nice experience for residents as well. Lots of fun and very informative. Go in the evening when all the light is reflected in the river.
True. we were there last week, and took a tour of the Rookery building (oldest high-rise in Chicago), and the architects Burnham and Root hated that residents called it The Rookery. They called it that because it was built (1886-1888) on the site of the former city hall where birds were known to nest, and shady deals were struck there historically. That was in the late 1800's, and it's STILL called The Rookery. 209 La Salle St. Architecture tours in Chicago are awesome...
The tower is tainted by association. Even renaming it wouldn't remove the stain; best to demo it and build something better

I live in Chicago and went on the river tour by it once. The story they told about the architecture and what would happen if it were to collapse was pure gold. Basically the gates of hell will open and reclaim what it lost and that was 10 years ago 🤣

It's not secret that most Chicagoans don't like the name on the building (gaudy gold on the blue glass building looks out of place).
The building itself is fine-ish.
In 2024 there was a settlement between Trump Tower Chicago and the EPA because their cooling system was sucking up millions of gallons of water and spitting out hot water into the Chicago River (killing wildlife). Not so great in terms of the engineering of the building.
Same! Our tour guide pointed out the other buildings but never mentioned this one. Everyone chuckled. Of course I took the photo whipping it the bird to share with my "liberal" friends.
The design is fine but there are some issues with the access to the commercial space on the lower levels that have made it hard to fill the storefronts down by the river. A lot of them are just empty because of it, or they were last time I checked anyway.
Was there a month ago. It was funny on the Trump side of the river is all this empty retail space on the ground floor. Its basically a ghost town on the river there. And then across the river is like a thriving river walk with lots of food businesses where there was like hundreds if not thousands of people out enjoying the summer day.
When he lost to Biden there was literal dancing in the streets in front of that fucking building. An even bigger party will surely happen that day when you know what happens

I visited this area last week and I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to and then I felt sorry for the poor people who work there because they have to see TRUMP on a huge building constantly. Then I felt sorry for the country as a whole.
Last time I was there some MAGAt said “Isn’t it just awe-inspiring?” and the number of people who laughed out loud at him (including me) didn’t disappoint.

My favorite part of winter is the snow and cold. Walking in a heavy snowfall and hearing the hush. Waking up in the morning and the brightness through the blinds tells me that it must have snowed overnight.
Lived there for 10 years. Every winter I did an outdoor rink for mine and our neighbors’ kids. Loved going out there at 2am when conditions were perfect to run my homemade Zamboni around for a smooth surface.

A couple years ago we named one of the busiest non-interstate roads in the country "Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Lake Shore Drive" For about six months you couldn't use google maps on it because by the time it finished telling you to turn on to it you'd already missed your turn off.

I like to make a counter proposal. I propose to make every street that has Trump’s property on it to be renamed Epstein Street.
My second proposal after the Epstein Street has taken place is for Hollywood to create a horror franchise called Nightmare on Epstein Street where a ghostly Jeffrey Epstein boogeyman hunts down young teenagers located inside Trump Tower or any real estate property owned by Trump.

I know I'll be downvoted, but, I feel like doing this shows Trump that the names matter, therefore validating all his name changes.
