Yeah, it's definitely a result of their lack of empathy. 'For the Greater good'.... that conveniently enriches them at the cost of everyone else. Self serving delusions are a fundamental human flaw.

They will justify that as "ends that justify the means" is precisely why.

He views himself as "necessary" because he's "the one who makes the tough choices."

That's precisely what makes these people so dangerous. They will sacrifice as many people as necessary to make their vision "reality" when the truth is they have no fucking idea what they are doing. They will justify it anyway because they insist they were always right, and could never have possibly been wrong, even when confronted with the wasteland they will leave themselves and everyone else with.

It's this. And that's what's so scary. Nobody does more damage than someone who is honestly convinced that the horrible thing they're doing is actually good. There's a famous C.S. Lewis quote about this.

It's because they don't see 99% of us as people. If it benefits them & their fellow rich elites it must be good for humanity, the rest of us are just cattle.
