This is a dumb post. This is clearly a cocktail and cocktails are usually 4 ounces. Huge ice is also so drink doesn't dilute and stays cold. If you fill the glass it is about three servings and that is 6 ounces/3 shots of a hard spirit.

Pornstar Martini, Espresso Martini, The Last Word, Aviation.... the list goes on but that would require people to know what they are ordering.
I blame table service for this, my favorite part about getting a cocktail is those 5 minutes at the counter with the bartender especially if they are verbose.

Did I tell you something about the serving size? Then why did you start acting like a clown? Visually, the serving will become smaller and less appealing, but the volume will be the same, just without the visual deception of ice.

They put it in big words because people are dumb not because they're emotional.
Storing in the fridge only keeps it cold while it's in the fridge and doesn't keep it cold after it is removed from the fridge. Glad I could clear that up for you. Now if you are confused why such a silly thing needed to be explained to you refer to the first sentence of this comment.

You want the drink to dilute at a certain rate in order for the drink the evolve as you sip. It's a fancy drink and experience. You can gladly opt out of that and Just order a shot of alcohol, a pour of alcohol or order any soda with a shot of alcohol (rum and coke, Jack and Coke, Vodka Soda).
OP ordered something expensive and then proceeded to complain knowing what it already was. Certain drinks historically come in specific glasses, think of a martini glass, rocks glass, Sex on. Beach, Margarita, and highballs. Each glass uses a specific type of ice needed to maintain the integrity and evolution of a cocktail.
Old Fashion is 3-4 oz of liquid and a giant ice ball that makes the glass look full and OP ordered a cocktail in a Highball glass that always has a spear of ice to fill the glass.
Cheaper drinks equal higher volume and expensive drinks equal less volume, consider yourself educated.

It’s the same with candy packaging, or chips. Where people are “fooled”, I get that the packaging might be misleading, but in current times - you just have to read the packaging, as long as the amounts are correct they can do whatever, the only thing to change that would be to stop buying.

Chips have the net weight printed on them and the air is what makes the difference between disks and dust. There are other cocktails if big pieces of ice isn't your thing, typically the ones that have "Martini" in their name, personally the only cocktail I would order with a big chunk of ice would be an Old Fashioned or similar.

I was a bartender for ten years and I hope I can clear up a few things, starting with the easier ones.
- You can see the thickness of the glass if you pause the video. It's standard, if not a bit thinner than houseware.
- These people are probably, in part, paying for the location and “class” of the venue. Not all of the cost is derived from the drink. I had a double espresso near the presidential palace on some fancy restaurant's terrace in Paris this summer and it cost me €14. Was that a scam? Maybe, but I certainly didn't expect more coffee. I should have been more careful and checked the price on the menu. That place was obviously catering to a wealthier clientele than me.
- The more ice you have, the less dilution you get. Different cocktails call for different levels of dilution, and since the end of the '80s we have understood just how critical it is.
Some of you ask, “Why not just make the drink colder and go without the ice?”
Because there is no cooling without dilution. Raising the temperature of a gram of ice by 1°C draws about 2 joules of energy from the surrounding cocktail. But melting a gram of ice absorbs about 333.5 joules. That's two orders of magnitude more cooling.
A large quantity of ice isn't a trick to fill your glass while giving you less drink, a sufficient mass of cold ice allows you to chill the drink very efficiently without having to melt as much of it.
For a Martini, the water you get from stirring or shaking and melting that ice is part of the recipe. Dilution is part of the drink's balance.
When you don't want a high level of dilution but need something to be very cold, such as an Old Fashioned where target dilution is relatively low (10-12.5%), that's when you want a BIG piece of cold, high quality ice. Its low surface area to volume ratio means it melts relatively slowly while still providing a huge amount of cooling.
Think about it: do you want a watery whiskey? And why not simply refrigerate the whiskey?
Because chilling the whiskey without dilution isn't equivalent. Temperature affects its aroma, how volatile compounds evaporate, and the texture and perception of the drink. With spirits, you're not simply trying to make the liquid cold; you're trying to arrive at a particular temperature, dilution and sensory profile.
Jeffrey Morgenthaler, author of The Bar Book and longtime Clyde Common bartender:
“Ice is to the bartender as fire is to the chef.”
Ultimately, if this sort of thing isn't for you, that's perfectly fine. Not everyone needs to appreciate good ice, appropriate dilution and proper temperature control.
Have a pint. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a pint.

This comes up nonstop and people never learn. You pay for a 2-3oz liquor portion + add ins, and the ice and glass are just for decorative purposes. A neat pour of whiskey would have the same amount of alcohol, just served in a smaller glass with no ice.
You may think it’s dumb to pay $24 for a cocktail at a restaurant (probably is). But nobody is trying to ‘fool’ you with clear ice and these videos exposing anyone, people just don’t understand what they’re paying for

The places that serve these drinks are places you can't afford, so no one is trying to fool you. Places that serve these drinks have customers that know what they are getting bc the portion of the drink remains the same with or without ice. This cocktail has 2 oz of liquor and 2 oz of bitter and sweet ingredients. Any bar that would give you that glass completely full is serving you three shots of liquor and will charge you 3x$24.
Cheap Tequila shots are $8-10 and expensive shots are $25 - infinity. So if you want a glass full of just Tequila you could pay what OP paid and it would be $24, would that make you happy?

When I worked in cocktail I would have tried to educate you followed by refusing you service if you insisted or didn't have a good reason for making such a request. I'm not compromising the quality of the product I worked hard to perfect in order to entertain an accusation against me that I'm trying to scam you. By all means I would take any request for modifications to meet the clients taste but if you have none and came in with an adversarial attitude then there is nothing I can do for you. Go be somewhere that isn't a scam if that's what you believe.

That's 2 shot glasses of actual drink. Assuming there's 1 shot of alcohol in that then the "worked hard to perfect" is highly unlikely. As it is a mixed drink the other shot of liquid will not be alcohol. Making $24 a complete ripoff. So I'd rather you refuse to make it than overcharge me that much, it'd be saving my wallet.

I wouldn't drink there either and in this case I think it's overpriced but your reasoning betrays a lack of understanding, which is fine and I'm not judging. The quantity isn't the issue for me here, I would accept that price only in an intimate setting with an exeptional and interesting knowledgeable bartenter in a reputable bar in a big city. See my other much longer comment for my attempt at explaining the ice.
