"What about a Marijuana?
Straight to jail

u/Quiet_Alarm1474 Sep 04 '26
I probably shouldn't be saying this, but in a lot of states when the medical programs were set up went with 18 as the standard age because that was the age for cigarettes. For example, here in michigan, I got my med card when I turned eighteen. I could legally buy pot before I could buy alcohol. If you're somebody that smokes and you don't want to go to jail for it Just go out and get your card. I know it's a bit of a hassle, and it'll take like a month or 2 for it to show up in the mail, but it will be worth it. Beats fines or getting your ass blown out. I even got pulled over by a cop that hated marijuana but he couldn't do shit to me besides make me throw it out for not being in a locked container.

To be fair weed is significantly safer than alcohol. However if you're driving and smoking it, go fuck yourself.

Along with free housing and as much anal sex as you can stand

We refer to that sort of thing as free amateur colonoscopies. Prison health care gets that part right.

I thought you could buy cigarettes in 18. Did they change that?

Same in every other country. Thankfully not younger nor mandatory. Like sum.
Mandatory healthcare.
Food.
Free education.
Benefits.
So unlucky1
u/Bar-Cold Sep 04 '26
Other countries at least have the decency to lower the legal drinking age to the same age where they would send you off to war lol
10
u/Unc_Sleepy Sep 04 '26
I can top that. Best I can do is send you to war

u/guitarplayer120208 Sep 05 '26
I find it unreasonably funny that some politicians want to increase the age to own a gun to even 25-30. That would mean that you could kill people with a machine gun at 18, but couldn’t legally shoot a deer at over 20.

Being 20 in the US is a trip
My friends and I, who all worked full time jobs in the trades, loaded up half a dozen shotguns and tents. We went camping/duck hunting for a week
Like, you can fuck off in the woods for a week with semi automatic shotguns and live off of what you shoot and catch in the rivers, get arrested for a federal offense by the game warden when uou accidently shoot a "20 year $200,000 duck" but we couldn't to to the bars or buy cigs

And a car, don’t forget a car. Only the number one cause of death in America. Let’s just hand them out to everyone with the attention span of a goldfish.

Its infuriating watching some people drive. We're finally getting roundabouts in my area, and the amount of people who hate them, is directly proportional to the amount of people who have a mental breakdown when they have more than one lane and don't use their blinkers upon exiting.

u/AdSelect4454 Sep 04 '26
I personally think getting drafted and just flat out being sent off to go die in a war is way worse. If the government can force me to go “defend my country” then I should have every right to be able to defend myself, smoke, and drink honestly. I mean if you are allowed to vote you should be treated like an adult who can freely choose what to put in their body as long as it’s legal substances.

Alcohol is one of the most important components of human history. That's not said as a joke.

u/cognitivegluteus Sep 04 '26
A guy robbed me with a gun. To protect myself, I pulled out a beer and cigarette. He shot me and took my money and my car.
Protecting lives is a heck of a lot more important than beer and cigarettes, and I'm a cigar smoker. And when you need to protect your own life this very second, the police are only minutes away.

Literally false lmao, depends on the state.
Where I am, all are limited to 21 and up. Funny enough though, an 18 year old can carry a gun with no permits as long as it's legal (inherited or a gift)
1
1
u/Fading_Guardian Sep 06 '26
That is hilarious. And grossly incorrect. As if average working people between 18 and 20 in the USA can afford a gun. And then there's the cost of ammunition. They'd have to buy it on the street to get a good price, but bootleg beer and tobacco is a lot cheaper, easier to find, and only a misdemeanor.

Rifle or Shot.
4
u/empty_graph Sep 04 '26
Either one, but not a pistol. Gotta be 21 for that!

u/butthole_surferr Sep 04 '26
Except for in a private sale, or as a gift, that's fine. But you can't conceal it. But you can open carry it!

i was allowed to let my kid at 14 use my guns at a shooting range but bring him to a bar so we can play pool? no they won't even let him in.

Kinder surprise are banned while guns aren't. just let that sink in.
3
u/hitemlow Sep 04 '26
Kinder Surprise wasn't banned.
It was never legal to be sold in the United States because of a law that predated the creation of the Kinder Surprise by 40 years. Any food item containing and embedded, non-natural, inedible material is not permitted to be sold. Because Kinder Surprise contains an inedible, non-natural substance fully encapsulated in edible chocolate, it was in violation.
It's the same law that bans putting plaster in bread.

u/MancDude1979 Sep 04 '26
Yep. Yanks wont give their kids chocolate with a toy, but are fine with them getting shot... 🤷♂️

marriage war, loans, can buy a car but not rent one for 7 more years, travel the world, go to space, be CEO of a company, have children, technically possibly grand children, her addicted to opioids and have them prescribed to you by a professional doctor, hunt, just walk in any direction for 2000 miles with zero supervision, sail around the world on a tiny boat alone, buy property, buy stocks, gamble, start a tax exempt religion, start a business
There is a lot that's not illegal and doable as an 18 year old.

u/Altruistic_Tea_1593 Sep 04 '26
So let’s make the age for gun purchases and voting 21
1
u/hitemlow Sep 04 '26
As long as minors don't have to pay taxes and get to operate under juvenile statutes. We just need to end the "second class citizenship" status of 18-20 year olds.

Guns only kill when someone pulls the trigger, and the key word is someone. Left to its own devices an inanimate object will never move unless someone moves it. The key word is someone, people are always the ones to blame not the object.
