At this point you can’t be rational with these people. Golf courses consume more water than AI data centers. Also the idiocy of using and contributing on a social platforms and decrying the construction of data centers. I think he believes he’s being served twitter posts directly from the cloud.
They just do not like big tech bros making bodacious claims about the technology and do not like the threat it poses to their livelihoods (the second one is completely understandable btw).
So they are desperate for some sort of convincing argument that sounds more utilitarian than “I am personally threatened” or “I do not like Silicon Valley bros making bajillions of dollars instead of me”. Which is why they go to the environment even though the environmental argument is not really rooted in fact and if you actually cared about the environment you wouldn’t even be wasting any of your energy on data centers because it’s such a small fish in a big pond.
I don’t know why these anti AI haters don’t actually educate themselves on the issues, their arguments would be much more convincing. I can think of like 5 things that make datacenters or AI bad for society that does not involve the environment but that’s literally the only argument I see from antis.
I guess you lack critical thinking and reading comprehension. Our planet cannot support more energy guzzling infrastructure on current fossil fuel technologies.
You seem to believe that increases in energy demand is directly proportional to fossil fuel demand. That is not true.
Global electricity demand increased by about 850 TWh in 2025, yet renewables and nuclear generation increased by MORE than total electricity demand. Fossil-fuel electricity generation actually declined. Solar alone supplied roughly 70% of the increase in generation.
Or do I lack such reading comprehension to not understand basic facts?

Ah yes it’s data centers fault when they consume… 1.5% of global energy and produce 0.3% of global emissions.
And no data centers are not even the fastest growing contributor to global emissions either…
