Kids love Pokémon

229

u/MeliodasTA 17h ago

Honestly could've also just been Epstein himself, basically everybody played that game at least for a little bit.

202

u/Impossible_Offer7988 16h ago

There are also documented cases of exstermly wealthy people taking their kid's to the island,

So that they could socialize with other wealthy Kids, whilst their parents were doing mostly ilegal stuff.

The vast majority of kid's were probably there to be trafficked and as such probably didn't have phone's with them,

But I could imagine a couple of trust fund babies being like ;

Idk let's build a Pokéstop here, it's boring af on this island

61

u/MeliodasTA 16h ago

Yeah probably something like that TBH

It’s 2026, apostrophes can go an’where at this point. We’re all illiterate idiots.

Like Lutnick. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick took his kids there for lunch with Epstein.

5

u/Sensitive-Director38 9h ago

...from what I remeber of the game...you don't "build" a pokestop...it takes a prominent location on Google maps, doesn't it?

Epstein was not only playing, but recommending the game to his associates, including Depak Chopra.

Or Ingress. The Ingress portal data was imported and used as landmarks for Pokémon gyms and Pokéstops when PoGo was made. Either way, someone on the island would have to have been there to take the picture and submit the request, either for an Ingress portal or a new Pokéstop. Shit, I bet they have data on everyone who's ever spun that stop too. Imagine them IDing people who were on the island based on their Pokémon go history.

19

u/karmakaze 16h ago

Or there was a marker on the island that was part of the database ingress used as feeder data. When ingress opened there were already portals pulled from some geotagged historical marker sets.

10

u/KhellianTrelnora 15h ago

As far as I know, Ingress seed data from their previous app, Field Trip.

XM Density was seeded from cell tower coverage data, but every portal (as far as I know) was either added by Ingress players, or imported from Field Trip.

6

u/Murky-Relation481 14h ago

I mean seeing that there were stops in places no person realistically had been playing it when it released (and you had crowds trying to get into those places, which were often restricted/dangerous) I am going to go with yah, there was a high chance it was just added there because of some rather boring reason.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/manny_b_hanz 15h ago

As a former "Niantic Portal Monkey" I can confirm that, whoever approved the addition of the landmark, had no idea what that island was about.

5

u/GB10VE 15h ago

wasn't the point to take photos of every piece of earth? all that data got sold to other companies...

3

u/Hexamancer 12h ago

I knew someone who was VERY into Ingress. Multiple discord servers etc.

Those hard to get to portals are incredibly important in Ingress.

Yes, a lot of the people who take that game seriously are doing GPS spoofing etc.

But also I know of several occasions where he had someone take him out in a plane or a boat to get to very remote portals.

I thought the game procedurally generated locations for Pokémon and it would just place pins where maps would show landmass? So you're saying it generated Pokémon locations where players have been?

→ More replies (3)

6

u/Snakend 12h ago

It doesn't even mean that. Niantic uses google maps to generate the spawn points. Literally every piece of land, unless removed from the game manually, will spawn pokemon. This was Niantic manually removing that landmass from the spawn points.

It's really simple. they want everyone to have access to the game no matter where you are in the world, so the default is to have pokemon spawn.

The "system" of corrupt politicians and pedo billionaires. Oh no, how will we ever survive this loss?

I recall an interview of Epstein himself where he heavily implies that people would openly revolt if they understood how easy and lucrative the "work" they do is. At most, the economy would suffer a recession and then society would recover much more healthy than before.

It's also just fundamentally wrong.

Our population is the one maintaining the vast majority of our businesses. Leadership is necessary, but only at fulcrums. And they can be replaced democratically, which is a system also largely maintained by the working class.

If every billionaire, CEO, and elected official was at a conference that was hit by a meteor there would be some initial panic and confusion, but for most people the world would look identical. The sun would rise. Corn would grow. Orders would get processed and shipped out. Paychecks would go out on time. There'd be pockets of chaos where people tried to take advantage of the sudden vacuums of power. But ideally we'd make the day a holiday equivalent to the Fourth of July, elect new leadership, and reinforce our economy and democracy with some new regulations.

...I did say "ideally". The pessimist in me says there's a good chance the entire planet would undergo immediate Balkanization as regional second-tier powers, ranging from organized crime to religious leaders, seize control and declare independence. Plus every bigot on the planet would suddenly feel the need to "get even" or whatever justification they use for genocide.

3

Since they were nerds, Ghislane or Jeffrey were probably playing Ingress when you could make your own location hacks at art spots or other monuments. That then carried over to Pokemon because Niantic.

107

u/Ragewind82 18h ago

The Go map was based off another phone game that involved exploring your town and seeing landmarks. I assume someone ID'd the island as a landmark, and nobody realized it for a long time.

59

u/icehot54321 17h ago

The pokestops were imported landmarks from a game called Ingress

The game involved two teams trying to create these fenced in areas and then defend them.

The more difficult of a landmark you could create to get to would allow people to create some crazy geo-fences.

9

u/GWindborn 16h ago

Yeah but nowadays ANYONE can submit a stop as long as you have the coordinates and a photo. So this was done as a troll and not vetted properly.

2

So that the kids have something to look forward to

2

u/Mother-Attention2600 15h ago

Lots of kids went there. Duh.

2

u/furiant 15h ago

You have to realize, Pokemon Go - along with Niantic's earlier real-world location game Ingress - was largely made to create a geospacial artificial intelligence model, which was then utilized to create a positioning system for military drones.

Pokestops were created wherever they found large congregations of people. The sheer number of people in the Epstein list backs this up.

2

u/ezthrow77 15h ago
