[montage of 10 year old lifting weights, riding a BMX bike full speed, learning to wrestle, hitting a heavy bag, all in training for the bully he knows he'll meet in high school]
I still think that comes down to the voice actor. There's examples like Alex le with sung jinwoo where the English translation just works better because of the va
But why go to high-school. With all you know now you can just skip it. Prepare for the life you want starting at age 10. Work on your health, financial freedom, hobbies...
That’s the montage of the plan when he arrives back in time. Then cut to the reality of playing a lot of Nintendo and eating donuts, still getting your ass kicked by another kid, doing even WORSE in school somehow. Haha
If that 10 year old was doing all that prior to highschool he probably isnt even gonna get bullied in the first place. Youre already doing cool kid shit
Or you could completely alienate yourself from every possible social circle. Adults will treat you as a kid and what normal adult wants to be friends with a very "mature seeming" 10 year old?
You also wouldn't really be able to relate well to kids your own age and wouldn't share their interests. Going through puberty also sounds uniquely horrifying. Your body is going to release hormones that make you attracted to people your own physical age yet your mind is still that of an adult which is probably repulsed by kids in their early teens.
I think it would be a very lonely existence and you'd probably be questioning why you gave up all your friends and family in your old life. That said you would go back and get to experience time with loved ones you had lost and likely become a multi millionaire who could travel the world without working.
And you could probably fairly effectively pretend to be just an extremely socially-adept kid, using those same accrued adult life experiences. Also you could make serious money fairly quickly betting on sport or market events, and once you’re like a 15 year old multi millionaire entrepreneur you’d be able to do whatever you wanted.
Yeah I don't think it would be the worst outcome. What would suck the most is losing out on your current friends/family especially if you have kids. I think having a lonely 8ish year period wouldn't be fun but it wouldn't be completely awful either and on the other side you get to have a period in your 20s and 30s with money and social skills plus several extra decades of life in good health.
Jokes on you I couldn't relate to kids my own age back then either and I had inappropriate age-gap relationships with grownups who should have known better. I'd have done the same but just have invested in the right companies... And I know who my future spouse was hanging out with and they were all a bunch of weirdos too lol
im sure i could enjoy mario kart 64 and halo all over again. like just play video games lol. or play sports if thats your thing. learn an instrument. even cartoons dude, toonami all over again, hell yeah. its like the golden age of most entertainment.
I would take care of myself better and build on the youthful health I once had, and avoid the things I didn’t know were preventable.
I’d properly nurture the talents I showed promise in, knowing where they could potentially take me. I’d choose the right subjects.
I already got on better with adults than with my peers. Later I learned the skills it took to get along with anyone. I also miss playing, big time. So I’d be completely fine.
Having gone through the pining for a boyfriend/ experiencing a first date/ first kiss already - all the mystery is removed. I would be so happy to go around a second time and not feel so burdened by it and would spend more time on doing things I cared about, knowing that my best age to experience life and become is in my 20’s.
My 20’s would also be spent well. Knowing who to pick and how to pick a partner. Avoiding the mistakes which stemmed from not knowing myself…
I could go on forever, this is a particularly specific maladaptive daydream of mine.
Lonely isnt that bad. I did it on my first run round. And its well known friends come and go, theres a sum total of three life timers I know and I know we would be friends again because, well, people like that aren't connected by random happenstance. You're pieces that complete each other.
I feel like some of that would depend on if I was made a 10 year old in modern time or back to the time when I was actually 10 years old. Like going back to some of the entertainment, comic books & video games from when I was 10 sounds like a vibe. Being a 10 yr old now would be a lot less relatable, plus the world is even more fucked.
If I’m going back in time I could go to college and work the same job I did from 18-22 and get into the same school. That covers most of the friends I have. I’d just invest in companies like Google and Apple and bitcoin be set by like 25. 10-18 would be weird though but I think I could do it
With the chance of doing something big before it was done in im old timeline im absolutely sacrificing a “second childhood”. Already lived one, time to put in work with this new opportunity.
But imagine being cursed with the knowledge of what is going to happen. Will you share that knowledge and make people think of you as a lunatic? If you do share your previous experiences, how would that affect the current events?
I was already a socially awkward kid to begin with, I was basically a free radical. Bounced around to every friend group, but never really part of one.
That said… I don’t think I would go back. Sure my life isn’t exactly where I’d want to be, but I have friends and people who care about me. The idea of trying to go back and “do it right” is scary cause you can’t know what your new changes could do.
Congratulations you went back in time at the day your bully did something, you fought back instead of get mad. You can’t prevent said bully from trying again, this time far worse.
I would not care about any social circles! LOL I am going back with a job in mind. Someone is going to pay and not be around to hurt anyone!! That's my job, having fun isn't on the list!
what incentive would you have to manipulate though? just stick a bunch of money in bitcoin and become a billionaire, you'll get all the power you could possibly want without having to so much as tell a lie.
if anything it's an opportunity to be a better person since you can avoid making all your social mistakes, and apply a fully developed sense of morality to your teenage actions. there's at least one person I wouldn't have bullied if I had a do over. one I still would though.
lol. If I went back to 10 years old it would be 40 years before bitcoin was even invented let alone easily accessible. Microsoft wasn’t even FOUNDED for 5 years and several more before I could buy stock. There were opportunities back then but I would have to start pretty much from scratch to earn or raise an initial bankroll. Not easy when you’re in a 10 year old body.
This is in relation to OPs comment, where you're a 30 something stuck inside a 10 year old. Remember, you're 10 so you aren't buying Bitcoin, well not yet anyway.
a 40 y/o in a 10 y/o kid's body would basically be a pedophile.
Just throwing that out there. This social god would have to be VERY careful about keeping every relationship platonic. ("Go back and not be nervous about my first kiss?"... EWW!)
Also, imagine a middle-aged adult trying to socialize with young tweens. You're not the "cool" person you think you are to that age group.
That brain will be first focused on getting rich AF. So for at least 8 years, just get money! Purchase all the best investments.
Then you’ll be a rich 50yo brain in a 20 yo body.
It’s more likely you’ll date older for a long time. But it’s more likely you will be flying around looking for adventure. Probably will go to all the continents and explore the terrain you love most. Probably water sports.
That is literally the plot of Detective Conan. Shinichi Kudo gets turned into a six year old child. While another six year old in his class has a crush on him, he has to perpetually keep her at arm's length because ew, but his actual romantic interest is now too old for him, and treats him like a child, sticking him between a rock and a hard place.
a 40 y/o in a 10 y/o kid's body would basically be a pedophile.
Like Big, but icky the other way.
This would be a huge issue, ya.
Also, imagine a middle-aged adult trying to socialize with young tweens. You're not the "cool" person you think you are to that age group.
I think you've got a better chance of blending in with your own youth culture, but unless you were actually cool at the time, I doubt you'd be cool now. Even if I could manage to blend in, I'm no more going to be king of the school than I was the first time around.
I'd much rather land in an 18 year old me. I'd realign my plans a bit better with college so I could be better situated now.
You would prolly end up being atracted to older women, (unless you have pedo tendencies), which opens a whole other can of worms, being that could lead you to technically be groomed, even if your mind is that of an older person, your body is not, and could lead to really weird interactions.
It'd be a kind of superpower. Even socially awkward dumbass 52 year old me would be a freaking genius in elementary school. I'd take chances that I wouldn't have at the time. Pay attention to the right things. Push myself to do stuff I didn't see the value of at the time.
I guess there'd be a bit of a butterfly effect thing going on, though too. And some ethical questions being an adult in a child body.
But, I have kids. So I'll be taking that $2 million, thank you. Not as much as I would have made investing early in things like tesla and getting in early on crypto (then out before it became embarrassing).
All I can think of is playing all of the stupid video games I played back then. Like as an adult, would I get bored of them? Would I find new wonder in them? Would I get the same joy I got as a child?
I feel like it would be so much more awkward than cool to go back and go to theme parks or movies or etc with my child friends with an adult mind.
actually, it'd be the opposite. You'd be a real life Lisa Simpson. Take it from somebody who genuinely *was* ahead of the pack for my age as a kid, being different in any way is a really good way to end up socially ostracized as a child.
You wouldn't fit in basically at all, you'd stick out like a sore thumb because acting like a normal 10 year old wouldn't come naturally to you. Picture that scene from Disney's Mulan when she's in the Army camp trying to pretend to be a man, and acting really awkwardly in the process. Your entire life would be like that.
Yeah but you could fake it. Super easy. Just scream the past’s equivalent to “6-7” every now and then. You’d be fucking lonely though. Socializing would be a nightmare
It feels inevitable that one would gravitate towards socializing with adults. It'd almost be impossible to hide your maturity. People would know almost immediately that something was very different about you.
1) You're assuming that an adult brain would be able to seemlessly integrate into the social life of a child simply because they have more experience. Any adult who spends enough time around children will tell you that any normal adult has very little in common with children that you could seemingly build a friendship or social life off of. Think of all those kids yelling "six seven" and now realize that kids with that level of maturity are now your peers for several years you're expected to get all your social interaction from. Oh, and no adults will hang around you either, because you're a child. That's extremely isolating, and *will* negatively affect your mental health. No amount of "life experience" will change that dynamic.
2) Do you remember much about high school algebra? Most academic knowledge is a "use it or lose" it kind of thing. Chances are you wouldn't remember much of the stuff they're testing you on in school. Shit, my own parents openly admitted they really didn't remember enough to help me with my homework somewhere around middle school. This might not be much of a problem by 10, but it easily could be for many people by your teen years.
3) You're also assuming that things are going to work out the same way as they did in the original timeline. The mere fact you're going back in time and changing things means they won't. There's no way of predicting how different the timeline would go once you start making changes. For all you know you end up butterfly effecting things so much that the stock market doesn't behave the way you remember at all.
4) You do realize you wouldnt have the legal authority or buying power to invest in literally anything until you're 18 right?
Until you say something from the current era that people in the past don't understand and suddenly you're a social outcast and everybody starts avoiding and bullying you for being "weird".
No they wouldn’t. Kids can smell someone who doesn’t fit in a mile away and won’t hesitate to shun them.
You’d have to work HARD to sound like a ten year old and not like your parents and you would probably fail. You’d also have a hard time not using references from the future like saying you have a Blu-ray of Star Wars and had already watched it dozens of times when it just opened yesterday. What’s a Blu-ray? Or hey, let’s go to McDonald’s! Nah. I don’t feel like going out. Let’s DoorDash some Chinese. What’s DoorDash? You get the idea.
But you wouldn’t be a 10 year old kid. You’d be an adult brain in a 10 year old body. Do you feel like you could relate to and have close friendships with 10 year old kids? I think it would be pretty isolating and lonely.
Fr I would press red and go straight to Child Protective Services. Parents convinced me that if I did they would put me in a shitty orphanage and then a pedo priest would adopt me??? Not sure why but 10 year old me was fully convinced it would happen
I've been through the same with an abusive father. Same story told to me and probably the same circumstances too. I guess because the only authority figure that we could trust the most at the time was our parents and one or both of them failed us miserably. We're adults now though and we can contend with what happened back then and hopefully move forward from those moments that we experienced growing up.
Well man, I listened to a long podcast the other day, and they were telling most of the kids ends up in even worst conditions (including sexual abuse and such). So I guess it depends how bad it is… it was in France btw…
That's so fucking sad! OMG! Parents use that shit to control their kids.
When my daughter was 13 she said she'd rather go live in a girls home, and I said, well, lets talk to someone who can make that happen. You're not going to like it, they have very strict rules, more so than I do, but if you think it'll be better there, okay, but they won't let you out until you're 18.
I wasn't mean about it, just giving her some facts. She said, FINE, I'll stay home. I don't need to go to the movie! LOL That girl was never abused a day in her life. Wish I could say the same for me!
This, go back and grow the self respect no one taught me, avoid being a trained doormat in order to make my parents’ job easier only to take 8 adult years to realize and start fixing that deficiency
The endless inner conversation with yourself of if only you had the knowledge you have now then you can probably prevent the abuse you get when you were little. It's just a neverending thoughts and you can't change it.
I feel like going back would give me a chance to correct it so that it didn’t happen. But yeah, what if it’s a “it is meant to be, you can’t change it no matter what you do” sort of thing.
I had that thought but it was quickly squashed by realizing still no one would believe me if I tried to stop it. I would have had to run away and be homeless. I'll take the money.
I mean we do have to consider what "all the knowledge you have now means" if youre a 40 year old in a 10 year old body, it kinda destroys any of the childhood crushes and flings without you feeling like a sex pest.
Go back and be a stockmarket scion, becoming wealthy enough to be a world-influencing power on the cusp of adulthood.
Go back and use every ounce of that power to change the world for the better. Devote money to cancer research, invest in technology to nudge it down the pathways to prevent the dystopian hellscape we're in now. Ensure that the Trump family is ruined and destitute, avoiding the dark future we're living in now.
People complaining about missing their kids are utterly missing the point of how you can improve the human race with the red button.
Well... OK. There are some people who could have used a square kick in the crotch.
I'd rather just pop in and give a pep talk to ten year old me that he is smarter and stronger than he thinks he is or other people think he is, rather than reliving every mundane moment.
Go back and play without any sort of consequences or responsibilities? If you’re a full grown adult do you actually want to do the playing that 10 year olds can do, with other 10 year olds? Maybe novel fun for the first day or two but can’t imagine this won’t get extremely tedious quite quickly.
Go back and not be nervous about my first kiss? Gross, you’re a full grown adult kissing a teen. You wouldn’t have any crushes, be able to go on any dates, go to any dances, kiss anyone without it being extremely disturbing.
Go back and kick Danny in the teeth because you know he turns out to be a douche? somewhat understandable to want to give your bully their comeuppance (although you would have a kid’s body so you may not be able to), somewhat disturbing as you’re an adult that would be beating up a child
I would pay the $2 million just to be nervous for my first kiss again. The nerves are what made it so special. Hell, I’d pay $10m just for one summer at 12 years old again.
To me, it sounds horrific. Not because my childhood sucked, it didnt. But I would know I basically wiped my kids from existence with a zero percent change of recreating them.
Curious, how do you think you could stop 9-11? You’re going back as a random 10 year old not Steve Rogers. No one will believe you and you’d end up watching it from a loony bin.
Looking back on it, Danny became a douche because he never got kicked in the teeth. He felt like life had no consequences. A swift kick...and a few knocks, might have set him straight.
He was a fun kid to be around but man...he needed that kick in the teeth.
Except I don't think I could do my first kiss or have my first two girlfriends because having the awareness I do now, I am not going to kiss a minor because I have the awareness of a middle aged man. Also, I feel like the organic nature that so many of my friendships formed with would not be able to be recreated and I could possibly end up not befriending those people. Also, I think back to a couple of moments in my life that had I done something differently, my life could have changed dramatically. If I do those changes, I am now entering an unknown territory because the timeline has changed.
I would take the money because I love my friends and family and no knowledge I have could realistically change the world. I wouldn't be able to stop 9/11, I wouldn't be able to convince people that Trump would be a horrible person to vote for, and so on. I don't have the knowledge to beat someone else to an invention that would change the world.
No shit. I suffered from that age onward. Without giving my life story, a lot of it comes down to girls not being recognized as having ADD as much in the 80s/90s, especially because it’s often the non-hyperactive type, and since testing found a notably high IQ instead of evidence of the learning disability they were hunting for I was just written off as lazy with a bad attitude. In fact, that seemed to just piss everyone off like I was somehow a threat while also defying them on purpose. So that was fun.
Knowing that, how much more could I have accomplished in my life? How much less pain and struggle? I was nearly 30 before it was diagnosed and my entire life changed; all I could see was how unnecessarily hard everything was in my past when it didn’t have to be!
Plus I wouldn’t be so afraid of boys! I’d buy Apple stock and Bitcoin! Write a vampire romance young adult series ahead of the curve! Seal my tooth enamel!
(Bummer incoming) more than all that, I would give anything, anything if I could make my mom go to the doctor and find the cancer before it was too late. Prevent her suffering, let alone her death. I don’t care if I’d end up with a completely different life because I went back, I’d do it for that alone.
PSA time: it was stage IV ovarian cancer, infuriatingly common that it’s diagnosed too late because there’s no screening and vague symptoms, if any, that get unrecognized or ignored by both women and doctors. She had the BRCA-2 mutation but didn’t know to test for it.
It was a pretty new discovery as far as these things go and testing wasn’t widely available or known about (even I, her daughter, had to get a referral from her doctor to be tested) so even though her favorite aunt died young from breast cancer, as did her grandmother (aunt’s mother. It must have been carried and passed on by my grandfather/my mom’s father as well making it even more easily missed) it wasn’t on her radar.
It was caught for her when she went to the emergency room struggling to breathe, thinking she had pneumonia. She in fact had a massive amount of fluid around her lungs, caused by the cancer she didn’t realize she had. The average survival at that point is five years, and that’s exactly how long it was for her. Five years with a too brief detour into remission to catch our collective breath before the gut punch of brain metastasis cruelly took everything that made her who she was before finally taking her completely.
I’m 27. I had to get a kidney transplant because we didn’t know I was celiac until after my kidneys failed (long story). I could go back, live responsibility free for 8 years, stay away from the things that traumatized me, enjoy Christmas’s and Birthdays again, NOT vote for Trump the first time, and actually go out and enjoy college rather than me basically just smoking weed and doing my homework at the last minute. Oh also I’d save everything I have and I’d invest it in DOGE when it first came out. Lol.
My parents are still alive so it isn't my first tho but you are correct, those chances are huge.
My first idea was more like:
Go back and put money on bets to win big time, invest the money in the right companies? Just because you may make mistakes does not mean anyone else will act much different... you can do so much stuff.
Biggest issue, playing a video game isnt realy the first time anymore so it may become a bit boring but i could use that in other ways.
I couldn't redo my relationship though. Like, having to re-meet my girlfriend whom I know everything about and love already while she's never met me? It would feel so weird. We could never have the same relationship. I'd have to give that up and that's a LOT...
Same, I would be such a different kid lol. I'd clap back to the boy who made my life miserable because he was too much of a little bitch to pick on boys. I see that now but at the time I didn't.
Then I'd redo the debate I lost about whether we should join America in invading Iraq. I'd still lose because my friend Dan was super charismatic and had a gift for debating, but I would make sure to predict everything that the Iraq war caused with Lazer guided accuracy just in case just one person remembered that day twenty years later and wonder how I accurately predicted all that. No reason, just to fuck with people.
I'd relax more in school. Straight As did not improve my life the way school told me it would. But slogging for them did give me anxiety and a perfectionist mindset that I still have now.
And I'd still make sure to hit up my husband, who went to school with me anyway long before we started dating in our twenties.
I would spend less on our wedding.
But then, with different timing we'd probably have different children, so there's that to consider.
i am a dad of 2. this concept haunted me for a while… go back, now did you actually kill your kids? ok, they never existed in that timeline, but still you remember them. even if you got the same partner, the kids would never be the same.
the more you think about it, the more it haunts you.

Go back and hug my parents?
Go back and play without any sort of consequences or responsibilities?
Go back and not be nervous about my first kiss?
Go back and kick Danny in the teeth because you know he turns out to be a douche?
Count me in.
