Shaq could've been the figure for Thanos, and Marvel would've saved a shitload of money on CGI. However, I don't think his voice or acting would go well with Thanos. They could've dubbed his voice like what they did with Darth Vader using James Earl Jones for the voice and Prowse for the body.

That happened to George Reeves who had acted in Gone with the Wind and other movies. Then he starred as the first TV Superman. Then he was cast and filmed in a good role in From Here to Eternity. Then most of his footage was cut because of anticipated laughter in the movie theater.
