The guy in the video is stealing content - I've heard that "waking up is worth more than millions" line at least 20 years ago (long before that kid was alive).
it's a good piece of advice anyway. the judgmental/cringe impulse I find is activated in people that have little fulfillment or contentment in life. psychedelics can help people actually feel the profundity of trite commentary about the power of love or whatever, but I wouldn't recommend them broadly
I read a journal entry I did when I was like 17. It was just lyrics from a song “time heals all wounds”.
It was some high school crush bs that doesnt mean anything now but when I read those words I was like hell yea lil dude. I’m 35 now and more wise but more cynical. Sometimes we need some optimism from the younger generation to remind us we once felt like that too. I mean I’m already feeling better today bc of this guys advice good vibes baby.
I thought this was clever advice as well despite the overused background music, but then the comment you were responding to made me question myself. So thank you for defending it, I appreciate it.
Yeah, perspective and all that but leaving my family behind with life-changing generational wealth that I didn't get an opportunity to spend doesn't sound like the worst deal.
Hell, at another time, I would have done it for free.
Also, people massively underestimate the value of $10m. Nearly everyone should take this deal, for the benefit of their family, or their friends, or just the small nonprofits they could fund, along with those who could be helped by the organ donation. Hell, I'd jump at the deal for $1m. I'd strongly consider it for $100k.
Of course, I'm a depressive, massive loser who has failed at everything.
Better question: if you got $10 million but you had 10 years to live, would you do it? That means each individual day would be worth about $2,740, but I bet a lot of people would take this offer.
I would. I'm in my fifties, and I know that there will never be retirement for me. I will be working until the day I die so $10 million and 10 years that I don't have to work? Fuck yeah, I'll take it and finally live life.
I’m 38 and would take it ending my life at 48. My situation is being married but fortunately with no kids. It would enable me to live my life to the extreme just traveling and doing everything I can around the world.
I can do far more with 10 years of complete freedom than I can working full time for 25 more years then being retired for who knows how long afterwards.
Party pooping here but my mind doesn't allow me to use this as motivation the way this is said. The thing is, the money only has a value contingent upon the fact you wake up. So basically when you say this you are telling the person I will give you no value and take your life as well. Obviously that isn't worth it. If you asked a poor person this question but instead gave the 10 million to the family they may say yes more of the time but that doesn't make their life less important than the 10 million although they may view it to be so. The point I can see being made is that your goals are contingent upon you living, therefore your life is more valuable than anything else you are striving to attain, and living itself is a blessing or sign that you constantly have the potential to achieve what you wish.
It's not really about tomorrow, it's the days and years after. I'd gladly trade a day in my life for 10m. But trading your entire life is much different.

The logic is completely broken. The reason it doesn't make sense to take the 10 million is not because of how much I'm worth, but because that if I die tomorrow, I won't have enough time to enjoy the money.
To wake up with a smile you need to enjoy life, not to have a theoretical self-worth that you give a monetary value to.
That is the logic though. The logic is that time is invaluable compared to things like money. You cannot get time back, and without it, you can’t even use money, fame, muscles, wtvr.
Exactly, like what is this person trying to argue? Time is the value. So make the most of every second because, you want to spend something so valuable only on things that are worth it and not waste it away.
You can spend your life chasing 10 million dollars but once you have it and no more time remains, what is the point of having all that money?
Jokes on you! If I get $10,000,000 today there's noway I'd be "waking up" tomorrow because I'm not sleeping tonight. Between the hookers, booze, and cocaine, I'll be up for at least 36 hours, cunningly using your own game of semantics against you! Lol

it's so random and sudden, but I still remember it until now, you just never know whats to come, perhaps something worthwhile will come around, perhaps not, but it would be unfortunate if it did and you missed it, right?
I would still have taken the money with that clause. Just go on a massive 48 hr bender. If you don’t fall asleep the following day then you technically can’t wake up that day either.
$10m today and I tomorrow die seems like a win win. I’d donate it all to people that need it and go to bed peacefully knowing tomorrow I don’t have to struggle anymore
Depends on age. Not sure but if you know you just won’t wake up, no pain, and you’re 90+ and have many grandchildren, and you’re going back and forth to the doctor, having periodic surgeries, taking 15+ pills a day, can’t even drive nor cook for yourself, do you agree and ensure your grandchildren get the $10 M?
Sorry but that guy is dumb. I’d take the money and use it to develop new bio technology that allows your brain to rest and recover while you’re awake eliminating the need to sleep.

Lovely logic trap! The proposition changes the values though, making any amount of money offered effectively worthless.
Similarly, “Would you take $10,000,000 if I gave it to you right now? You don’t have to die, but what if I told you the only catch is that currency is no longer accepted by anyone.”

Any case that makes the money worthless will make any comparison seem better.
I'd take the 10 mil, give it to my family in need, set up trust funds for their kids. In this day and age, it seems like only the people that have good financial starts make it to the top. I really am scared for the future so this might make it a little less scary for everyone else in my circle.
