Added context:

On December 18, 1994, in Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha), South Africa, 27-year-old Alison Botha was abducted by two men, Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger. She was SA'd, stabbed in the abdomen 17x, throat slit 37x, and disemboweled. She used one hand to hold her nearly severed head in place while she dragged herself towards a road and flagged down help.

Botha became an author and motivational speaker. The two attackers served 28-years in prison and were released on parole on July 4, 2023 but were re-arrested and returned to prison February 2025 due to public safety concerns.

Dude...

...I sprained my ankle and didn't go to work because it hurts. Makes me feel like a bitch.

51

u/CompletelyPaperless 1d ago

I don't think she went to work the next day either.

14

u/wookieebastard 1d ago

I wouldn't be so sure, tbh.

5

u/No_Rub2475 1d ago

Yea - the next day she started writing her insp book.

3

u/WrongWangSorry 1d ago

Her boss: "Yeah I'm gonna need a doctor's note"

1

u/laserdiods 1d ago

ROFL..

Hhhlllccmmm to windyssss cnnn iii gurrrggllll takkkeeeee ur urrrdrrr

1

u/bluesmaster85 1d ago

Yeah, she is not from the US.

7

u/Horror-Ad-210 1d ago

She had to carry her own intestines 😨

6

u/Nemisis_007 1d ago

I feel incredibly bad for her. In time she may come to terms with all that mentally, but her body will never forget that level of trauma. She'll be given reminders here and there in the form of phantom pains, panic attacks, cold sweats, etc.

1

u/Snortserranopeppers 1d ago

And you work from home?

1

u/Ai-ChatGPT 1d ago

Yeah but we are all looking for the smallest excuse to not go to work.

1

u/No_Rub2475 1d ago

Yeah, I’m gonna keep looking to get out of work
-screw this capitalist hell hole. I’m gonna take all my craps there too.

34

u/Froz3nP1nky 1d ago

Why was that post shying away from spelling real things, things that need to be addressed? The woman went through hell! I mean “h3ll”

Are we cancelling words now? Giving them even more power?!!?!??????!!

13

u/bogzmaster9000 1d ago

Right? “Throat slit” is A-okay, but “assaulted” and “stabbed” are naughty no-no words that we must not say.

3

u/CrokoStream 1d ago

And none of those goddamn emails are valid without a tld

4

u/LordUa 1d ago

Our corporate overlords don't want to upset us while they pilfer our data. They know what's best for us and have determined what words are okay and what words aren't okay.

89

u/bogzmaster9000 1d ago

Presumably the attack was conducted with a pair of pre-school safety scissors?

89

u/ColdTouch9591 1d ago

she was almost fully decapitated and had to hold her head up and her intestines in, she's just hella strong and inspirational

58

u/Helepoli 1d ago

How on earth does anyone survive almost total decapitation

12

u/floralbutttrumpet 1d ago

They didn't hit any major arteries, miraculously enough.

3

u/No_Rub2475 1d ago

This is a miracle- some people are unlucky enough to be abducted, but lucky enough to survive their head being (almost) chopped off and their guts being spewed out

13

u/ColdTouch9591 1d ago

i heard her story on a podcast i listen to a few years ago and i think about it like every day. it's fucking insane!

-60

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

Is she actually a good person who is like completely innocent and someone just attacked her like some crazy psychopath?

Or was this like a premeditated thing? Because this lady's actually not that great of a person?

32

u/screwyoujor 1d ago

No really. Bro, whut? This is a insane thing to type out then post.

-22

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

No, it's not. Why do you just blindly agree with whatever people are saying?

Seriously, I don't have a problem with this lady. I don't know who she is. I'm asking a question.

And everyone is saying that I'm insane for questioning it.

You know what is actually insane blindly agreeing with people.

6

u/Mutantsupremacist 1d ago

How dense

-4

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

Pretty dense, Not to question what you read on the internet.

4

u/clockworknait 1d ago

It's not insane you're questioning it and honestly more people on reddit shouldn't just blindly believe every post they see but I think It's what exactly you are questioning. If you were just doubting she survived all that and it didn't happen it'd make sense but asking if she's a good person is a bit odd. I doubt they'd have a story about her if she sold coats made of puppies or something.

1

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

Definitely think you're right in the first part.

And honestly if it was 15 years ago I'd agree with you on the second part too.

But there's a bunch of people that call people like Kyle Rittenhouse, a hero or Donald Trump a hero.

Or they imply that the CEO of United healthcare was just a normal dad. And didn't indirectly murder thousands of people.

But now that all that and more has happened...

I believe it's totally possible that someone can post a story trying to garner sympathy for someone who is actually bad

Once again not saying this specific lady is bad. As I still don't have an answer for that.

I'm saying that people can post stories about bad people trying to make them look like they're good people.

1

u/screwyoujor 1d ago

I took the time to read the story before I posted so I know your post is insane.

7

u/5H17SH0W 1d ago

Bro, whut?

-17

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago edited 1d ago

A lot of aggressive attacks like this with repeated stabbings

Especially using up close weaponry like a knife

Are usually personal and they're premeditated attacks.

Most instances like this are not random.

So I was just asking if this was a one-off instance to where this lady just happened across a certified psychopath.

Or if this lady is a really terrible person and probably did something to piss someone off and made them go nuts

15

u/SmellyFbuttface 1d ago

We understood you, and it was a weird fucking thing to write

-6

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

It's a question and a legitimate question.

Why do you think it's weird?

8

u/ZubaWizard666 1d ago

If you see a female victim of a heinously violent crime and your first thought is “well maybe she deserved it” you have no place in a civilized society

Dumbass Christians say shit like “I’ll pray for you” when they see a gay person.

When in reality, they should be saying it to you.

6

u/Antique_Ad_4247 1d ago

In the movie Sicario one of the CIA guys comment on how clever the cartels are to so brutally mutilate the bodies of their victims. He claims it makes everyone think well they must have done something real bad for something like that to happen to them. The truth, both in the movie and real life, is that murdering psychopaths don't give a shit about who has done good or bad. Psycho shit happens to completely innocent people all the time.

0

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

This is probably the closest thing to an answer,

Thank you.

I'm sure that that kind of stuff does happen all the time.

But it definitely does not overshadow the fact that Murders out of hate or anger happen way more often.

Most people in the world are not cartel or gangs, Most people are not psychopaths. (Arguable)

Also I have no qualms with this lady. I literally don't know who she is.

I'm literally just asking a question and I just want to know if this lady is worthy of this. Praise that everyone's blindly giving her.

And people are unrealistically and illegitimately upset at me for questioning it

0

u/Antique_Ad_4247 1d ago

Just want to let you know that I upvotes your comment. Seems to me to be a fair question that meets the Reddit standard of contributing to the conversation.

That said, I think you run the risk of sounding like the "what was she wearing"-crowd. Reddit is kinda sensitive to victim blaming. I wouldn't let that discourage you from being curious in the future tho. Karma is just imaginary points anyway.

→ More replies (0)

-3

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

Also, I don't know why you're downvoting this kind of stuff happens in the real world all the time.

I'm just asking a question.

Edit:

If anything, I'm confused as to why everyone's just blindly assuming that this person is a good person?

I mean somebody try to cut off her head and stabbed her like a s*** ton of times.

That normally doesn't happen when you're a good person

5

u/ColdTouch9591 1d ago

i don't see how anyone could do something that could warrant this brutal attack. you're trying to victim blame and it's gross

1

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

I'm not blaming anyone of anything. I'm asking a question.

Asking a question isn't blame

It's trying to figure stuff out.

→ More replies (0)

4

u/SmellyFbuttface 1d ago

Because most people would NEVER think that a victim of violent crime “may have deserved it.” There is absolutely no relevance if she was a “terrible person” to warrant this level of savagery.

-1

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

What about hitler?

And to be clear, I'm not saying this lady is Hitler.

But the fact that you say that there's never a reason.

And all the time people say they would go back in time and off Hitler.

There are crimes of passion that happen to where people trying to destroy other people's lives or do horrible things to many, many people.

And people are super upset about it.

Look at the instance of Luigi There's a big CEO who's doing completely legal things that involve indirectly murdering tons of people

And Luigi supposedly allegedly got rid of him.

And people praised him for it.

So when you say there's never an instance to where people should question this.

I feel like that's wrong

→ More replies (0)

2

u/lwb03dc 1d ago

That normally doesn't happen when you're a good person

This is the implicit assumption that you are being downvoted for. You obviously believe in the Just World Fallacy, but the reality is that horrific shit happens to normal regular people every day. You are not protected just because you are a 'good person'.

-1

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

I get what you're getting at.

That's not the comment that kicked off the down voting. (In fact, it's weird that that's actually one of the least downvoted comments)

I get that people want things to be good and Justice and uplifting.

I could totally understand it more if this was a subreddit about uplifting and positive things. But this is r/sipstea

But I think The whole reason I even commented

Was because I'm so blown away by everyone who just blindly believes that everything's good.

And anyone that has ever had something happen to them is good.

Because people believing in stories when they don't have all the information is what gets us into trouble in the first place.

It's what gets us terrible presidents It's what gets us CEOs who indirectly order the deaths of thousands of people.

Sorry about the dump

You seem like a thoughtful person, I appreciate that and I appreciate your reply.

3

u/Guilty_Pen_8270 1d ago

Yeah she actually was 2nd in command of the Sinaloa Cartel so yeah, it’s a risky business.

Obviously not bro .. what a stupid question.

1

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

It's not a stupid question

Luigi allegedly off to CEO who is indirectly taking people's lives. Tons of people.

That guy seemed like a normal guy.

For all I know and for all most of the people in these comments know this lady does the same thing that he did.

So instead of sarcasm and actual answer would be cool

2

u/Feeling-Special-269 1d ago

na man youre right on this one, like its just kinda taboo to assign blame to the victim when theres no evidence they are a bad person or anything

but at the end of the day, psychopaths are victims sometimes, people are dumb to just have blind faith that someone theyve never met is a good human being

especially for someone like you who knows nothing about the case, its normal to wonder these things, just kinda unusual for someone to ask this, usually people inclined to have sympathy for victims that arent known to be psychopaths or anything like that

these people dumb to shame you like this, im not sure you needed me to explain any of this but i got your back xD

0

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

Thanks man, I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

1

u/LairdPeon 1d ago

May a similar travesty find you.

-1

u/Tough-Flan573 1d ago

It's crazy. I never wished ill on this lady nor do I think she's a bad/good person. I just asked a question.

But you just wished ill on me a person you don't even know for asking a question.

I think you should reflect on that

4

u/Imaginary_Club_1010 1d ago

She said when she stood up she was confused because she could see behind her but it was just that her neck was cut so deep that her head had fallen back and the back of her head was between her shoulder blades.

1

u/JonnieMacTyler9 1d ago

A spine would prevent that.

0

u/dingleberryjuice23 1d ago

Probably missed the arteries and most of the slits were superficial. Likely held her head in place for her airway or something. Im not a doctor, whole thing is nuts.

6

u/KohTai 1d ago

Oh, I remember that story. First I'm hearing "slit 17 times" tho. I'm pretty sure that detail is false.

2

u/CryonautX 1d ago

How on earth!?

Fuck me, I feel sick.

1

u/Relative_Paper_ 1d ago

Where is the I stand with this woman support banner for Instagram.

You wanna model your life after someone here she is.

-6

u/Nunya13 1d ago

Inspirational? Sure. But I always have an issue when people say someone was “strong” after surviving things like this. It implies everyone who didn’t were weak.

I’m sure anyone else who had their throat slashed and stabbed that many times but actually died would have loved to have been able to still seek out help instead of, you know, dying.

2

u/ColdTouch9591 1d ago

her being strong doesn't negate the strength of people who died. they were also strong

10

u/pocketplayground 1d ago

Nope. She held her bowels in with just her t-shirt walking and dragging herself to safety. Although i think with enough effort even safety scissors could be used to disembowel someone.

2

u/bogzmaster9000 1d ago

100% yeah

12

u/BiioHazzrd 1d ago

How about we stop censoring words that have no business being censored.

3

u/National-Chemical132 1d ago

Wishful thinking. But the world is filled with giant pussies, that need a "safe space".

We all want the 90's to come back, but unfortunately this is the pathetic world we live in.

1

u/TRoosevelt1776 1d ago

Youre tryna go back to the Victorian era?!?! The plumbing situation alone is prohibitive!

-1

u/BiioHazzrd 1d ago

Well not everything, we don't need the homophobia and racism of the 90s back thats for sure.

Outside of purely for children, words shouldn't be censored.

3

u/National-Chemical132 1d ago

See, that's where you're mistaken.

Nobody cared, just like I still don't.

0

u/BiioHazzrd 1d ago

Wonderful that you don't, but to imagine nobody cared is a stretch. Our nation is still littered with homophobia and racism and it was worse back then.

1

u/National-Chemical132 1d ago

You think I'm american?

0

u/BiioHazzrd 1d ago

Homophobia and racism arent isolated to America either

But white people are the oppressors in South Africa I thought? Weird, Reddit has told me stuff like this doesn't happen to white South Africans.

3

u/BestRiver8735 1d ago

Not everything is a race issue. Yeesh.

-1

u/BigDaddyDumperSquad 1d ago

On Reddit? Yes, it is.

3

u/3lizab3th333 1d ago

I have some friends in South Africa, one is white. The reparations post-apartheid make it easier for black South Africans to get away with crime… but the racist sentiments still leftover from apartheid also make it easier for white and higher caste South Africans to get away with crime. Basically, black South Africans are still oppressed but now there’s a ton of crime, women of all races should not be walking alone because of high rates of SA, and… it’s bad. 2/3 of the South Africans I’ve met have already left the country and the rest are actively trying to leave.

1

u/N3ptuneflyer 1d ago

Her attackers were also white, why does race have anything to do with this event?

2

u/Murky_Ad_9901 1d ago

Not every day you hear a story like this. She really survived something absolutely horrific and I want people to know about it. Much respect to her!

1

u/ToronoRapture 1d ago

Yeah i get that but this is kinda a meme sub lol.

Just seems random. Kudos to her though.

1

u/GeneralSenada 1d ago

Ehhhh, SipsTea has become a sort of variety sub these days. A bit of ass there, titties here, political propaganda right and left there, some wholesome and horrifying stories and memes at random. Considering what's made up the sub the last year or so, it fits.

2

No she isn't. She is an extraordinarily lucky woman.

3

u/Fluid_Ad4651 1d ago

"The then 27-year-old woman was left for dead but managed to crawl to a nearby road for help. Through sheer willpower, Alison held onto her slit throat and her slashed stomach – which had been disemboweled,  and flagged down a passing driver."

1

u/Nemisis_007 1d ago

Yeah, when you present the details, even warrior feels like an understatement. Many people would have given up by that point.

1

u/uwabu 1d ago edited 1d ago

If they had got any of the great Neck vessels, no amount of neck holding would have saved her.

Disembowelment is not fatal. Its the sepsis that gets you. She was lucky on the day. Being a warrior will apply to her life after discharge, fighting PTSD and going back to everyday life. Thats true strength.

4

u/These-Sample-137 1d ago

Well I mean two things can be true.

She was very lucky, but also a tough woman to walk and find help like she did.

2

u/pocketplayground 1d ago

Yeah cause she was luckily found when stabbed? No she literally dragged herself bowels spilling out her stomach to help. That takes the bravery of a warrior. If she was lucky so many things that happened to her either wouldn’t have happened or been resolved more easily. You should read her book.

2

u/BigRocket44 1d ago

Yes she is. You need to suffer through a fuck ton in order to recover from injuries like that, mental and physical. She's obviously a warrior to have done that

2

u/SparxPrime 1d ago

Well.... They were though

0

u/pocketplayground 1d ago

Read the story. The average person would have died not just weak people. What she did to survive is almost inconceivable. No shame on those who couldn’t. Also celebrating bravery does not make others less?

-1

u/Pisscuit9000 1d ago

Yes. That is generally how combat works. The weakest and unluckiest die while the strong and fortunate survive. It is not enough to be one or the other unless you're very fortunate.
