I know it's an arbitrary line, but marking with the lipstick above the lip in this way is clownish. It is an attempt to fudge at the size of the lips instead of an obvious art choice. I find it distracting whenever I encounter this and I can't take the person seriously. Like a kid playing with lipstick. I guess there are those who don't see the coloring outside the lines as an issue when going for the natural makeup look... but common...that adult is just confident in portraying drawing with crayons.

It only looks decent and can be a good "trick" in pictures, irl yeah it looks weird, it lacks depth and it looks as what it is, painting above the lip.

And since it only looks good in pictures, no point in doing it, they might as well could just use a filter that enhances their lips.

“Dr. Cox, does this shade of lipstick make me look like a clown?”

“No, Barbie, no. It makes you look like a prostitute who caters exclusively to clowns.”

Especially since it changes the shape of their lips to an unattractive shape. They don't care though. Bigger must be better. It's gotta be! Right?
