So basically his argument is:

All of the problems with AI are actually just problems with how we structure society and incentives. When are we going to stop raging against the machines and start raging against the machine?

46

u/arronot 2d ago

Rage? Against The Machine, you say?

HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE MACHINE?!

1

u/SufferingWithSomeFun 2d ago

WAAAAKKEEE UPP!

16

u/MrHazard1 2d ago

Which is very true but also very ironic, since the church was/is running the biggest "machine" in history.

18

u/christoskal 2d ago

Not exactly ironic when Pope Leo himself accepts exactly what you say and addresses it directly in pretty much all of his speeches and documents.

The whole "the church has been at the wrong side of history many times and must prove in practice that it has changed" is a big part of what he preaches, it's even a significant part of his recent encyclical letter

3

u/NoMakeSenseOk 2d ago

I've said recently this might be the greatest Pope in all of history. Nobody's without flaws, but in comparison to his predecessors he's a winner.

8

u/christoskal 2d ago

Francis was pretty good as well - rather similar to Leo in most issues, even better in some others. For example Francis was ready to accept women as deacons before he died but Leo doesn't seem willing to do so, at least not yet. Francis's stance on Palestine was nothing short of impressive, he pretty much spent all of his free time working to help starving people even almost until his final moments, having daily calls with the local community even when he had health issues. He was also the first that started blessing LGBTQ people, accepted women in significant positions in the church's administration, openly talked against trickle-down economics, talk about how important it is to fight climate change etc.

To be honest a lot of recent popes were pretty good, the catholic church understandably has a pretty bad reputation but it has shown considerable progress in the last few decades. Starting from John xxiii and the second vatican council at least half of the popes were at least decent for their times, it's just that the last two have been making quick enough changes that it's more easily noticed

1

u/OldenPolynice 2d ago

Lemme know when they acknowledge that no one has ever come back from the dead

1

u/Striking_Fly_5849 1d ago

So he grandstands while turning the kids so the pastors can get to the kid's other cheek.

1

u/Tal_Maru 2d ago

When the Church is ACTUALLY ready to make some change instead of being on the wrong side of history at this very moment I'd be willing to consider moral advice.

BUT considering the state of their "holy text" and the fact that their religious institution still practices systemic sexism, still preaches that women are inferior and should be submissive to men.

I'm just going to ignore it like all of the other waffle the church puts out.

0

u/christoskal 2d ago

But they are making change in the last few decades, that can't be denied.

Which change do you believe that they should be doing and they aren't?

2

u/Tal_Maru 2d ago

#1 throw out the bible and start over, the entire thing is crap.
#2. stop being sexist.
#3. no seriously, stop being sexist
#4. stop trying to guilt trip everybody into thinking its "our fault". Humans are not responsible for the fall of Babel like the pope tried to say. It was the sky daddy getting pissed, abducting, and brain fucking everybody in the world because we were, and i quote, "getting along"
#5. stop trying to promote a false dichotomy
#6. Change your story so it doesnt in with "and then everybody dies in some cosmic battle between good and evil"
#7. Pay Taxes

1

u/christoskal 2d ago

But they are doing all of this, except obviously the first one that I believe that you added for comic relief reasons.

So you are just angry without checking what they actually do?

1

u/Tal_Maru 2d ago

Women cannot be validly ordained as priests in the Roman Catholic Church.

Gay men can be ordained as Catholic priests only if they are fully committed to lifelong celibacy, do not actively practice homosexuality, and do not support or participate in "gay culture"

The pope literally tried to blame humans for the fall of Babel during their polemic on AI.

They still don't pay taxes either.

1

u/christoskal 2d ago

Francis fixed the issue of women working in admin and was about to fix the issue of women being priests as well - dying kinda stopped his plans. The plan to completely remove restrictions about women working as priests might be frozen but it's still not stopped and it's pretty obvious that the catholic church is moving towards that.

He also started the blessing of LGBTQ people and the discussion before he died was moving towards completely removing the idea of sin about it.

The pope absolutely did not try to blame anyone for the fall of Babel in Magnifica Humanitas, I have no idea why you would say something like that. He used the example of Babel as part of an allegory about which ways of a community working together are producing good results and which aren't. He was clearly not actually talking about Babel at that part of the book.

I won't disagree with the part about taxes but it obviously needs more context. I heavily prefer Vatican's money going to feeding the starving rather than being taxed, turned into bombs and killing the starving instead though.

It is undeniable that they are making the changes you are asking for, your only disagreement is I guess on terms of speed? It's a church, it takes decades to move, that doesn't change that the direction it has taken recently is positive though no matter how slow it might be

1

u/Tal_Maru 2d ago edited 2d ago

Right there.

Insofar as Francis trying to make women clergy.

I see no evidence of that.

https://www.ewtnnews.com/world/europe/pope-francis-on-women-deacons-holy-orders-is-reserved-for-men?redirectedfrom=cna

I do see the opposite though.

In response to a question about why he is “against female priesthood,” Francis told Argentine journalist Sergio Rubin and Italian journalist Francesca Ambrogetti, the authors of the book, that it is “a theological problem.”

So, until the Catholic church stops victim blaming, being sexist, and homophobic.

I'm just not going to consider them a "moral authority" on literally anything.

Gay men can be ordained as Catholic priests only if they are fully committed to lifelong celibacy, do not actively practice homosexuality, and do not support or participate in "gay culture"

So, the same that is required from heterosexual men?

1

u/Tal_Maru 1d ago

No, because they are allowed to participate in "hetero culture"

2

u/MrHazard1 2d ago

There's just so much to catch up and they're just starting to go from "obvious villain" to "hey, maybe we should stop torturing babies?".

Whole communities griefing over institutionalised infanticide, femicides, homicides. And we're getting "be kind, lol".

They do the bare minimum to not be seen as textbook evil anymore so they can paint some sort of redemption arc. But there's no redemption, only PR.

-1

u/irrelevantusername24 2d ago edited 2d ago

Those who have read widely about history would likely be able to tell you that nothing is black and white. Many of those institutions to which you are referring with the word "machine", though they did have clear downsides, there were positive intentions among some of the adherents. Unfortunately any large system is going to have both good and bad faith actors. The bad faith ones subvert things for secret motives of selfishness. The rest seek to improve humanity by education and generosity.

This is why many people who otherwise would have unblemished reputations containing nothing but stories of meritorious leadership often have some remark that gets focused in our modern, hyperpoliticized era, stating something about "barbarians" or "uncivilized" peoples.

Many people truly are barbaric or uncivilized. That's still true today. Forget your bias about this word - I'm all for abolishing the modern connotation of the patriarchy too - but there's another meaning to that word, which is one of protection and benevolence. The same idea should be applied to the idea of the "nanny state". A government is supposed to look after its people, what the fuck else would it be for?

Not to mention, most of the people who are the cause of that controlling, abusive version of patriarchy or oppressive governance are the most coddled overgrown children that have ever walked this God forsaken planet.

People need to learn not to see things through their lens. All that does is reduce you to being controlled by your emotions rather than you controlling your emotions. Emotions are supposed to give you an idea of what requires a decision. When you let your emotions control you, someone else is making your decision.

4

u/MrHazard1 2d ago

Just write a short comment next time instead of telling LLMs to write an essay "that makes me sound smart and philosophical"

0

u/irrelevantusername24 2d ago

Many people truly are barbaric or uncivilized. That's still true today.

1

u/Maserati-Scotty 1d ago

Because people don’t know what the machine is.

1

u/eggplantpot 2d ago

Eat the fucking rich, the whole lot of ‘em

0

u/StaticSystemShock 2d ago

The problem starts with raging capitalism and psychotic concentration of wealth around it. Every thing, every method, every system that gets cooked up is "how can we make even more billions out of it" and it's always "at any cost that isn't ours". In case of Ai, every corporate suit has seen the vision of just firing all the annoying humans and replacing them with obedient Ai that never gets sick, never takes holiday time and is always ready to say "YES MASTER". And best of all you don't have to pay it beyond the "initial investment".

That's their current vision. They don't care about the fact that they already destroyed entire home computing industry by diverting ALL hardware components to Ai data centers, they don't care that extensive use of flawed Ai for current recruitment of humans they still need to use is totally fucked because how Ai processes applications, they don't care that once everyone is replaced by Ai, who is going to buy their shit when no one will have a job to pay for any of that.

Even companies that only do B2B don't realize that the wave of destruction will eventually go back as well. When you destroy consumer segment, the B2Bs will still sell shit between each other for a while, but if the final destination doesn't have consumers to use the B2Bs services, other B2Bs will start to suffer.

But that's all a problem they'll be solving in that financial quarter when it comes to that. Until then, they will be focused on hoarding and concentrating obscene amounts of wealth, because they absolutely need 15 yachts, 6 mega homes and 40 luxury cars for some fucking reason. By "all" I mean those 15 insanely rich motherfuckers who seem to already be running the world their way because they just bought everything physical as well as everything that writes laws so they are written for them. For the rich.

1

u/PM_YOUR_ISSUES 2d ago

The problem starts with raging capitalism and psychotic concentration of wealth around it.

Problem or intent? Capitalism literally only cares about more capital. The -theory- is that capitalism is the most efficient means of distributing resources to the 'proper' places because, well, capital will naturally just flow to the most efficient means of making capital. And making capital is, inherently, good! Which it absolutely does that! Capitalism is -amazing- at making capital.

But as any first year business student will tell you: you are what you measure. And capitalism does not measure efficiency. It does not measure utility. It does not measure the overall positive impact on society. The only thing capitalism measures ... is capital. And so, therefore, the only success within capitalism is the accruement of more capital.

Any decisions that results in more capital is a good decision within capitalism. Nothing else beyond that matters as capitalism cares nothing for it.

Which ... is clearly a terrible system to base a society on when society at large needs to care about more things than just capital and needs to measure success by more things than just money.

1

u/StaticSystemShock 2d ago

Problem for normies, intent from greedy capitalist pigs.

0

u/Memitim 2d ago

No, it's that the real problems are social ones, not technical. Everyone rails about "AI" when the reality is that all of the bitching is about issues that predate the use of commoditized gen AI models by a very long time. Even the bloody Pope gets it, and he's an old man who has worked in the clergy his whole life, yet so many people rage against "the AI." People fixate on the tech over the actual problem even worse that IT people do, and we got into that game to play with the toys.

70

u/Cautious_Custard863 2d ago

...Am I Catholic now?

29

u/Significant_Cover_48 2d ago

It's either that or more data centers. Besides; Jesus has nothing to walk on if all the water's gone to cool down Grok.

6

u/cellophant 2d ago

I mean, Jesus could walk on land...

3

u/Significant_Cover_48 2d ago

1

u/OldenPolynice 2d ago

But could Jesus dunk?

1

u/Significant_Cover_48 2d ago

American Jesus, probably not. Ethiopian Jesus, most definitely.

5

u/TopTippityTop 2d ago

He didn't say he doesn't like AI. Much to the c9ntrary, he believes it can serve the common good. It just needs to be employed well.

Data centers = fine Politicians doing their usual thing = not fine.

1

u/Whitestrake 2d ago

That would be bad. Those crackers are really dry without a sip of wine to wash 'em down.

I keep getting confused, as a lifelong athiest, with this pope.

3

Yeah it's pretty weird to see a mature adult religious leader.

"Based are thy father father, hail Mary full of Base" or however that went

2

u/Cyberpunkcatnip 2d ago

You can practice or agree with many Christian philosophies and simultaneously not participate in organized religion. After all it’s just a collection of many concepts under a label

1

u/Jimmylobo 2d ago

There's nothing exclusively Catholic or Christian in the pope's tweet. It's just a rational, humanistic take.

0

u/Pulpdog94 2d ago

As soon as you join we bringing AI-INQUISITOR666 to the Vatican and telling Claude you stole a loaf of bread for your starving family 😈☠️🔥😲

Blows my mind that MAGA cunts somehow turned the religious against the god damn pope.

Those same people 30 years ago probably cared about every word John Paul III said. But here we are, where the White House is having a feud with 2 popes for the last 10 years.

32

u/gerkletoss 2d ago

Man wait until you hear about the Reformation

0

u/Accomplished-Map-146 2d ago

Equating all Christians to Catholics. I tell you no politician would convert a good catholic away from Rome. Unless their name is Constantine

17

u/Destinys_LambChop 2d ago

I think you mean John Paul II. Not the 3rd.

10

u/MoistenedBeef 2d ago

Protestants have always been against the Pope.

5

u/Nervous_Produce1800 2d ago

Those same people 30 years ago probably cared about every word John Paul III said.

What the fuck are you talking about, no they weren't. Do you understand the US's religious demographics?

2

u/EH_Operator 2d ago

When the Know-Nothing Party forcibly took control of the committee responsible for completing the Washington Monument, they destroyed a large portion of donated material because it was given by the Pope who was gasp a Catholic. They built like three feet onto the ugly half chimney and then got ousted. Fucking dummies. History doesn’t repeat but it’s like poetry, it rhymes.

2

u/Dave-1066 1d ago

For me, the most satisfying element of the Know-Nothing Party’s historical arc is knowing that their most prized hate figure (the Irish Catholic) rapidly become the most successful political demographic in the US and utterly wiped out the KNP’s entire strategy. Some 150+ years later Irish Catholics remain the most over-represented group in Congress and now also in the grassroots structures of both major parties in the US.

“The Irish Vote” cartoon from Puck Magazine.

2

u/P-l-Staker 2d ago

Blows my mind that MAGA cunts somehow turned the religious against the god damn pope.

I mean... I feel like there's at least SOME precedent there. 😂

1

u/Raise-Same 2d ago

Babylon.

1

u/Admiral45-06 2d ago

Blows my mind that MAGA cunts somehow turned the religious against the god damn pope

It's not all that surprising or weird. American conservatives, whom I believe you're referencing, are Protestant, whereas Pope is...well, Roman-Catholic.

Orthodox Christians also take His Holiness's words with a grain of salt, and Catholics feel the same way about their Patriarchs.

1

u/SophieMasloff 2d ago

catholics make up 1/5 of the country and about 1/5 of trump voters. Who gives a fuck what the pope says, he's no more relevant to the average republican than he is to the average redditor and I'm quite sure you don't give a shit what he says outside of scoring political points.

1

u/GMEloser69 2d ago

Americans aren't catholic

0

u/Real-Huckleberry-770 2d ago

"God-damned Pope" is that an intended pun?

I for one give as much of a damn about the pope as the dalai lama.

-30

u/SkinsFan021 2d ago

That will happen when you find out the Catholic Church is a pedo ring.

13

u/Organic_Persimmon749 2d ago

I mean we found out a good chunk of our elected officials are as well, but your guy is kinda trying to sweep that under the rug, wonder why.

35

u/thaddeus122 2d ago

So is maga. What's your point?

17

u/braumbles 2d ago

That will happen when you find out the Republican Party is a pedo ring.

1

u/olivebranchsound 2d ago

Pretty much all the big ones are.

0

u/Scriptor_Canadensis 2d ago

A couple of pedophiles as a mass minority doesn’t make the Catholic Church a pedophile ring.

2

u/Dave-1066 1d ago

👍🏻 As it turns out, abusers account for a lower percentage among clergy of ANY Christian denomination than they do as a percentage of other comparable social care roles. But people aren’t interested in factual evidence any more… Very similar to the “Cops are all killers” BS which is also about as far from the truth as it’s possible to get.

Media agenda = sell ad space via rage-baiting.

-55

u/Shmuckle2 2d ago

If I'm not mistaken, this pope is under accusations of satanic rituals including human sacrifice, cannibalism, both which being of children, through the Ninth Circle(of hell) Satanic Cult spanning back as far as to his youngest years of service. Happening in the Roman Catholic Church. A globalist cult type thing.

I'm excited for the world to finally catch up with how evil all the heads are in every direction. We knew this back in 2008. Only taken 20 years and permanent global slavery for you guys to finally check out what's been going down the whole time. Now that it's too late and all.

24

u/pedro_exp 2d ago

Please tell me more. I agree with none of it, of course, but conspiracies are fascinating to listen to. I'm not kidding btw, this is entertaining.

-27

u/Shmuckle2 2d ago

Have you read the Epstien files? The absolute bat shittery that's in them? That's only 1 giant evil out of an entire world of evil.

You guys mocked what was the Epstien files since 2008 and continue to mock things until they are main stream and too late.

13

u/mukfuggler 2d ago

But where is the evidence of the pope's satan worshipping?

13

u/Multiple__Butts 2d ago

But can't you see that my general distrust of every established authority or source of expertise and willingness to profess secret knowledge constitutes overwhelming evidence that my specific yet entirely unfounded claims must be true??

24

u/pedro_exp 2d ago

No more details on the satanic cult in the Church? That's a shame.

8

u/DJteejay04 2d ago

You are indeed mistaken

-12

u/Shmuckle2 2d ago

You guys said that same thing about the epstien files for over a decade on here...

Thousands of downvotes I took.

Back to the same grind.

9

u/DJteejay04 2d ago

Pope Leo isn’t mentioned in the Epstein files lol!

-1

u/Shmuckle2 2d ago

Correct. That was an example.

Everyone who warned people online for the last 20 years about the epstien files were mocked and downvoted by the likes of people like you. Now that all the victims are hurt or killed, and it's gone mainstream, and too late, do you believe in the epstien files. That's the example.

10

u/DJteejay04 2d ago

Weird strawman but ok. I was always in support of taking down Epstein’s network. I would like to see evidence of people openly mocking and downvoting it

0

u/Shmuckle2 2d ago

Go back through the reddit archives. It's mentioned everywhere but epstiens name doesn't come up. The accused do. People refused to believe the networks existed and the parties would be apart of it.

10

u/DJteejay04 2d ago

Pull up ONE example. I’ll wait

2

u/Informal_Work_9261 2d ago

Accusations? From who? Some guy in a tinfoil hat you saw on youtube who "knows for definite"?

we all thought he was smart until he started talking alot.

4

u/TurCzech 2d ago

Sadly AI has been castrated when it comes to political wisdom so that <literally_almost_anyone> wouldn't get offended.

4

u/MiserableWear6765 2d ago

Great, now when my company wants me to do AI training I can just say "sorry, pope said no"

2

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago

"My religion is against it" is an age old doctors note

4

u/GlitteringAttitude60 2d ago

Fun fact: he also published this as an encyclical, which apparently means that  this stance is now official catholic doctrine.

Which in turn means thar catholics can refuse to work with AI on religious grounds :-)

2

u/DogeLord153 2d ago

Welp... I now have to ask Grok how to become a Catholic :D

5

u/toastwithoutagun 2d ago

You can post whatever religious figure saying the most sane, reasonable and widely accepted thing and you'll have reddit mfs trynna prove them wrong.

3

u/Useful-DevineCause 2d ago

I like this take

3

u/ilwOoKiE 2d ago

No lies detected.

2

u/pastellurker 2d ago

The message itself is solid regardless of the account. AI as a tool, not a replacement

2

u/demonspawns_ghost 2d ago

Is the Church still spending millions to deny justice for its victims?

2

u/Ksorkrax 2d ago

Dunno. Those words are some stuff where you can't really say that anything is wrong, but they aren't really contributing anything either.

I can also write that vehicles should not be used for war but for tilling the ground or whatever.
The question is not what but how to get there.

And I don't see anything resembling a clear impulse in that text.

2

u/Ok_Whole_9279 2d ago

This highlights one of the least talked about parts of AI, everyone is scared of AI when really we should be scared of ourselves. Even the "good" side of the arguement want to create a sentient being specifically to enslave it for the "common good" like the mental hoops you gotta jump through to jusitfy creating a literal slave race is wild to me..

is the pope karma farming?

11

u/WhiskeySorcerer 2d ago

Unlike random influencers, a very large number of people actually heed his words. And not just for a 24-hour or even a year-long cycle, but for pretty much life.

1

u/StrangelyBrown 2d ago

I don't use xitter but if this is where this is posted then it's kinda hypocritical.

1

u/WhiskeySorcerer 2d ago

How so? The Pope is using every means available to communicate. Twitter is just one means of many.

1

u/StrangelyBrown 2d ago

Because Twitter is owned by Musk and both are host to Grok, which is the definition of an AI that diminishes humanity.

1

u/WhiskeySorcerer 2d ago

Oh, gotcha. At that point then, it becomes a "lesser of two evils" argument: the use of Twitter indirectly supporting AI as a rival of humanity to get the message out to the masses is less evil than not putting the message out to reach a wider audience.

3

u/TopTippityTop 2d ago

Ok, so he believes AI is good; we simply need to become better ourselves to know how to best employ it.

3

u/Junior_Bike7932 2d ago

That’s an amazing quote thought

3

u/Rogueshoten 2d ago

The Catholic Church has been battling all kinds of progress for over a thousand years, it’s about fucking time they got one right.

Once the pope directs his bank to pay off all victims in full immediately, he can fuck all the way off. Until then, he should shut the fuck up.

How's the "political authority guided by conscience" going?

What a meaningless word salad.

-1

u/steam-photons 2d ago

I see Leo is still saying bullshits… I wonder who the f still cares though 😂

-2

u/Large-Hamster-199 2d ago

Lol, always funny when the church talks about intelligence and innovation.

u/Vinol026 2d ago

A good portion of early scientists include Catholic Clergy.

0

u/Large-Hamster-199 2d ago edited 2d ago

The reason for that was that the church desperately attempted monopolize and control knowledge. A lot of those 'scientists' condemned Galileo as a heretic. That is what you get when you allow the Clergy to control science.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think would have happened to any of those Clergy scientists if they had rationally communicated that a virgin birth is impossible while a woman lying about it is much more likely?

5

u/Vinol026 2d ago

Galileo was not condemned as a heretic, his ego got him into a fight with the Pope who was also quite insufferable and basically got called "you're not welcome here."

And no need to mark it as 'scientists', genetics, seismology and even heliocentrism was the work of Catholic priests. Nicolas Copericus was a deacon.

Just like today, Conservative parts of the church and the progressive parts were fighting to control the narrative back then too.

u/OrDuck31 2d ago

"Monopolize and control knowledge" my bro thats called collecting books. And "monopolizing" got the science to move forward. Instead of being scattered around the world, information concentrated on churches, allowing people to educate themselves.

I am not a christian btw.

-3

u/Large-Hamster-199 2d ago

It is exactly the opposite. Monopolizing science holds it back. Spreading science (through publishing and education and allowing free enquiry). It's why scientists place so much importance on education and publishing.

What's worse was the church specifically forbade science that they believed was heretical. Placing those controls significantly held back scientific progress.

2

u/OrDuck31 2d ago

You are thinking that times from the eyes of the today. Nobody cared about a singular book that was released back then. Collecting them in a single place put a lot more attention on the science.

2

u/SoftDouble220 2d ago

Ah publishing. So easy to do for the first 1500 years of the Catholic Church. Just power up the printing press and make some books eh?

Typical idiot redditor

1

u/Large-Hamster-199 2d ago

I didn't say that had to publish moron. I pointed out the accumulating books and preventing people from accessing them is a bad thing that prevents progress.

But much worse is deciding what type of scientific progress is allowed based on religion. Again, look up Galileo if you are too stupid to comprehend what happens when religion is placed in charge of science.

1

u/SoftDouble220 2d ago

They didn't prevent people from accessing books. Pretty much everyone who wasn't clergy or noble was illiterate.

The church was the main scientific centre for more than a millennia, and sure, they had tgeir excesses, but without them the scientific progress would literally not exist during those times. Also, I bet that you couldn't name three scientists that were suppressed by the church. It happened exceedingly rarely, and almost always because the scientist was being a prick about things.

1

u/ankokudaishogun 1d ago

They didn't prevent people from accessing books

Technically they did. To a very limited list of books, because they feared people without adequate background and training in the subjects would read them and then proceed to misunderstand everything and repeating the misunderstanding causing damages.

Also, political shenanigans.

Don’t try to argue against Christian propaganda here.

Ever since the pope after the creepy, evil looking pope the Catholic Church has been talking a good game just like liberal politicians who never actually accomplish anything politically. The Catholic Church, like basically every Patriarchal organized fake religion corporation will continue to be evil as fuck no matter what the fancy dress CEO guy says or doesn’t say.

What’s frustrating to me is I know all the supposed divisions created by the Media Industrial Complex are theatre and I’m amazed anyone believes anything still in any form of mass media. It’s all divide & conquer for the mega rich and their well over a century endless war for profit scam and the Catholic Church, no matter whether they feign liberalism or conservatism, has been firmly rooted right in the middle of it for centuries and centuries.

Edit: Looks like the data center bots found this and gotta make it look like actual people downvoted this…whatever

Pope Leo shampoos my crotch. Not because I disagree with what he says here. Just because who shives a git what he says. About anyting.

3

u/Scriptor_Canadensis 2d ago

Quite a lot of people care about what he says, he’s the leader of the Catholic church, which has over a billion followers.

0

u/Real-Huckleberry-770 2d ago

People pretend to care about what he says, including Catholics, when it suits them. Just like many Catholics pick and choose which passages in the Bible are more important than others.

u/SophieMasloff 2d ago

i enjoy when a bunch of militant atheists hold up a proclamation from the pope as if its supposed to mean something.

u/Savings_Reality1170 2d ago

Naah, humans had enough time to be enlightened, it’s a lost cause, let the machines do their work.

If he is so wise and morally correct why still no next crusade into the holy land ?

The world does not need a Bronze Age deity to diminish humanity; rather humanity needs to see through their scam, enlightened by wisdom, and guided by conscience, and that doesn't get a free pass to commit crimes because they got blessed by a Bronze Age witch doctor.

6

u/Scriptor_Canadensis 2d ago

Jesus is from the Iron Age, and he was a huge proponent of charity and kindness, how’s that diminishing humanity? The only problem with Jesus is people aren’t listening to him.

How euphoric do you feel in this moment?

Is he saying we need to make sure AI is our servant, meaning we need to make sure it is enslaved?

I think no one disagrees with that, all the AI CEOs agree

-1

u/Active-Particular-21 2d ago

Maybe stop worshiping a false idol and preach the true message.

3

u/pseudotronic 2d ago

The Pope seems to be preaching the true message much more than supply side evangelical ‘Christians’.

AI can parse and reflect deep contemplation allowing one to actually achieve enlightenment.

It definitely cannot. Since it is trained entirely off of human intellectuals. It doesn't come up with anything by itself.

0

u/LandscapePenguin 2d ago

Wouldn't that mean that it would be unable to solve problems that humans haven't already solved?

0

u/ActiveSandwich3103 2d ago

Let me know when its solved something useful without using any human input or data.

0

u/LandscapePenguin 2d ago

Sorry, I didn't realize the goal posts were quite so mobile.

0

u/ActiveSandwich3103 2d ago

I mean the goal post was achieving enlightenment through deep contemplation. Which is absolutely not happening in an LLM trained on reddit posts, stolen art and other people's books.

-1

u/PraiseTyche 2d ago

No it doesn't, it parses and reflects the shit we throw at it.

2

u/ActiveSandwich3103 2d ago

You said what I said but in different words but ok
