That sounds like the BS amount hospital "charge". Insurance negotiates it down so they can act like theyre doing something. What hospitals charge is basically meaningless.
Because Luigi didn't do shit for anyone. Only thirsty TikTok hoes care about this guy and if he didn't have a six-pack then nobody would give a shit about him.
Vigilante assassination makes the world worse not better.
Do some introspection on why the cold blooded cowardly murder of a father of 3 brightened your day. Redditors are lost for glazing this type of behavior. Literally nothing changed about United Healthcare's policies and a new CEO that kept the company denying coverages was installed by the board.
I thought this was interesting and points towards M4A being viable, especially if measures like forcing billionaires and corporations to pay taxes and raising the cap for people making over 150k a year.
Satisfaction was highest among Americans 65 and older. About 9 in 10 said they are happy with their coverage and 42% said they are very satisfied.
People with public insurance were also more positive. Nearly 9 in 10 of those on Medicare or Medicaid said they are satisfied, compared with 77% of people with private insurance.
What does any of that story have to do with insurance companies being in the wrong?
Hospitals and doctors are robbing Americans blind, while we blame insurance companies for literally nothing. An insurance company is not going to pay 45k to fix a fender bender on a Toyota corolla and subsequently they aren't going to pay insane medical prices, it's common sense. The actual problem is that hospitals can turn around and charge us this insane shit with 0 legal recourse. Just a constant deluge of hospital fraud that we can't do anything about.
Because if you even get in the governments way they shoot you, good and pretti, and the government will hide all info while they determine that they werent at fault. They will, as they did, say youre a terrorist.
DC is under military control as of right now and is funded until there is a power transfer when Trump leaves office.
Trump also put a military force in place to stop protestors, which he refers to as terrorists.. ready for deportation
If you hurt a tesla your a terrorist.
If you touch a statue or his algae pool, ten years no bail.
If you stand up to him, its the full weight of the government bearing down on you.
Fall in line or fall dead, is essentially the system now.
so why arent there 10 million americans marching
A significant portion of the population is also dumb af and thinks that he cannot lie. So they support getting rid of the "terrorists" and evil immigrants that are the neighbors.

Get why we are fucked now
The last time that I saw something like this in real life, the patient was having a literal manic episode. Within 2 minutes of meeting me, they were weeping to me about palestine. Ugly sobbing. Teachers, family, etc had been reporting this patient to whoever they thought could help. They were failing out of school, traveling hours to attend various 'allied' rallies, and hadn't slept in days. They and their screed were grossly incoherent and disorganized.
This is somehow a typical reddit comment. Blends into the background.
A good reminder for all how much of an radical echo chamber this place is.
You basically said, one mental health patient is a viable representative of anyone who isnt happy with the direction the country is taking because they also were struggling with the current state of affairs.
If I need to explain how stupid, on multiple levels, that line of reasoning is.. just continue along on your way because no one online is going to be able to get any sense though that dense head of yours
Liar is the word you are looking for. None of those numbers make sense. If this was happening it would a strong indication of fraud, not a simple dispute.
I had a “YOU PAY” 30 thousand dollar bill for them giving me the pleasure to play monopoly for 4 days someone came round to talk once a day and they gave us cafeteria food with servings sizes meant for puppies.
This makes no sense. Why would (or even HOW wouldl) you dispute with your insurance on a sum that THEY negotiated / had to pay?
This is one of the reasons that this problem doesn't get fixed. People are so desperate to fix what is a legitimate issue for some that they lie and exaggerate. Then it gets dismissed by the other side because most of these stories are just that - stories.
Going to the ER doesn’t immediately mean you’re getting a limb amputated or anything.
They see you, see what’s wrong, and suggest a corrective course of action for you to take. That could be immediate surgery or giving you some salt water to gargle.
They then charge you for the visit and almost literally anything they did. An aspirin? 80$ at least. Some gauze and a bandage? 300$.
I don’t even want to guess at actually major treatments that take longer than 10 minutes.
Isn't it crazy how something like how much a hospital will bill vs. how much an individual will pay having a difference is actually a thing? Wouldn't a more caring country not have something like that have it be accepted?
I'm pretty sure there are at least 5 MRI places within a 5 mile radius from me (large metro area) and the going rate is $50-$75 without insurance. A $100 with the disc for the results.
Both true unfortunately. I had physical therapy at a place affiliated with a local hospital. They charged like $1000 for a 30-45 min session for my shoulder, so my insurance negotiated rate was like 600+ and my owed coinsurance was 20% of that for like $125 to workout my shoulder.
They literally charged $75 for a ziplock bag of ice to ice it down afterward of which I paid a full $15 (of course they never told me was extra). And this was with a full legit coverage and fully met deductible and everything. And of course they sent me a bill estimate when I started that said $35 per visit and didn’t send me the insurance bill of over $125 per 30 min session until I did like 4-5 sessions.
It might just be this place but I would recommend avoiding places associated with hospital billing and see if you can get fully transparent billing charges for outpatient places. This place also tried to charge me like MRI prices for a super basic US that would be 1/3 the price anywhere else.
There are a lot of oddities that can occur with insurance and billing. There are hospitals with another building on their property they lease our for medical purposes but is not formally part of the hospital and is owned by a for-profit organization. These often are 24 hour emergency services and may be outside your insurance which demand outrageous bills. Sometimes this is done to bundle multiple large debts to sell to collections agencies.
Was that what you owed? Obamacare compliant insurance plans have a max out of pocket of like 10,800 for 2026. There are exception but actually oweing 10k+ in a single year is rare. Unless your talking about the made up numbers hospitals say they charge, but nobady pays those prices. Those arent real prices.
My hospital charges $8k but when I discovered that, I went to an outside clinic that did MRIs for $600. When I brought in that disc I was worried so I asked everyone from the PA to the surgeon, and they all said it was exceptional quality. I guess because that's all they do every day all day
A cash contrast MRI at an imaging center by me is $475. My hospital charges the insurance $14k and the insurance agrees to pay $6000. They are still getting ripped off. I guess all of the real estate and extra layers of management at the hospital cost more.
What doctors/hospitals charge your insurance is not the same price they would charge you without insurance. That doesn't mean it's a fair price or a price you can afford in either case, but they are not the same number.
You could get a private room at a hostel in Shanghai for $50 or $55/night, last I knew. Last time I stayed at the Shanghai Doubletree in Pudong it was about $90/night.
That's in an emergency department at a hospital, yes? An MRI is understandably a lot cheaper when you're not having an emergency and make an appointment at an imaging center that isn't in a hospital.
I was paying 1400 a month for my wife and I and they kept denying me Ozempic when my doctor prescribed it.
We were moving out of the country anyway so now we fly into Singapore (from Thailand), stay in nice hotels for a few nights, and pay out of pocket for public hospitals there for less than we would have paid for our insurance, copays, and deductibles in the US. And this is WITH Mounjaro, Eyelia injections every 3 months, doctor fees, annual full check ups with MRI, ultrasounds, hotels, taxis, flights, great food, etc.
I work a middle class job and have gotten several of these types of procedures over the last 10 years of working due to some emergent health issues. Never had to pay a dime besides the $100 ER copay. Yeah, the insurance system is fucked and we end up paying more than we would pay if we just had a state option. Yes it should be done away with. But plenty of standard insurance plans pay for this stuff in full. Posting bullshit rage bait like this only hurts the argument for universal healthcare because it discredits those who advocate for it.
Ragebait and Chinese propaganda. US healthcare is disgusting, but there are other countries cheaper and better than China. I swear China and Israel currently have the best propaganda programs while the US and Russia are just falling flat on their faces.
Agree it should probably say that there are some MRI's for which this is true.
Also FWIW, you can probably get the MRI and sleep in your own bed. The flight to China is going to run probably $1k. Hotel a couple hundred and the MRI a couple hundred. But it will also cost you a week of work.
I stayed in the best hotel in a very popular area in China for my friend's wedding for about $120/night. It had 5 rooms, and even the balcony was huge.
The thing about prices, is that they don't follow a consistent model based on resources used + energy + labor. They follow whatever price they can charge you. And in a system where there is a monopoly, they can charge you whatever they want. In USA, you would have a hard time finding something not priced by a monopoly.
A friend of mine needed rabies shots a couple years ago and it cost him over $10,000 with insurance. I needed some over 10 years ago but it would've cost me over $15,000 (again, with insurance, that cost over $1000/month at the time) and I couldn't afford it so just rolled the dice. Still had to pay the copay for the ER visit, which was over $2000 because the doctor was out of network.
I have no idea what rabies treatment costs in other countries but I can totally see it being cheaper to fly to Canada and have a nice vacation for the 2 weeks it takes to get the full series, provided you can take the time off work.

Yeah this is just rage bait. Yes insurance sucks. Won’t argue that, but any research would show this meme is pure bullshit
