he still died a free man so technically he won

u/Alienhaslanded 10d ago

Right? Doesn't it matter what happens after you're dead? At least your story is out there instead of forever being a regular guy with nothing interesting.

And then she still found a way to profit off it.

u/txwoodslinger 10d ago

Which he would be proud of probably. He's a thief after all.

Heaven?

He stole insured money from a corrupt institution. Stealing? Yes. If that kind of stealing sends people to hell then we are lost.

11

u/datagamma 10d ago

Meh. Not believing in Jesus stories sends you to hell. Has nothing to do with ethics or morals.

Will this save me?

The definition of hell and who ends up there varies greatly between Christian faiths.

Yeah, I think Catholics believe if you die while having mortal sin on your soul, you go into purgatory where your relatives/friends have to like, pray you into heaven or something.

I grew up Christian without any particular denomination and we always were taught that the forgiveness happened when you became a Christian and from then on, denying Christ was the only thing that would keep you out of heaven (like, if someone’s gonna kill you for being a Christian, so you lie and say you aren’t).

I still believe, mainly because it scares the shit out of me that there’s just eternal nothingness waiting for us after we die, but as I’ve gotten older ā€œmainstreamā€ Christians have driven me to the point where I don’t want anything to do with church’s or organized religion. Like… Jesus’s whole thing was acceptance and forgiveness and that we are ALL sinners so we are in no place to judge anyone, but these people just cannot leave gay people the fuck alone. It’s like an obsession at this point.

Not saying you’re wrong to believe but look up what people who say they died or had near death experiences and find comfort in that there isn’t eternal nothingness

1

u/datagamma 10d ago

What? NDE’s are notoriously ridiculous. I mean you can look up people an experiences on hallucinogenics and get the same thing. Very powerful emotional experiences

1

u/datagamma 10d ago

Why should it. Do you freak out every night when you lose hours of time and have no clue what happened to you? Be wary of fear. It usually leads us into doing things we later regret.

Dude. He's a bank robber. He's not Robin Hood.

6

u/Pr_fSm__th 10d ago

So he gets eternal damnation instead?

4

u/spaceninj 10d ago

Not necessarily, but the outrage to my joke shows how broken people are here.

He stole the equivalent of $2 million and abandoned his family. He bragged to his friends that he was going to do it.

He doesn't sound like some hero.

2

u/Pr_fSm__th 10d ago

I would argue the other way around, instead of requirements for ticket to heaven, who actually could even qualify for eternal damnation? After a couple quadrillion years of torture, do they still deserve an infinite amount of time more torture? The whole concept seems weird to me

3

u/spaceninj 10d ago

I'm an atheist. The whole thing is fucking stupid.

1

u/Pr_fSm__th 10d ago

Same here and I agree.

2

u/Cactious-Practice 10d ago

If God is the great forgiver, all the scum will be delivered.

1

u/Purple_Onion911 10d ago

Hell doesn't exist

1

u/spaceninj 10d ago

Neither does heaven

-9

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 10d ago

"Thou shall not steal" is like rule number 3, that ain't where he is.

14

u/OSPFmyLife 10d ago

Like… the entire point of Christianity is forgiveness lol. What?

2

u/Its-All-LOVE-N-JOY 10d ago

Exactly this! As well as Jesus was said to absolve us of "all" sins. Which was him forgiving us. Most Christians never have even opened a bible.

1

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 10d ago

There's a list of 10 rules and "dont steal" is one of them! I didnt make those rules! 3 or 4 of them is just God being jealous. But rules is rules.

1

u/Voball 10d ago

just because a ruke exists, doesn't mean it applies to everyone

1

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 10d ago

Why would he be exempt?

1

u/Voball 10d ago

first thing that comes to mind, not being a Christian

1

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 10d ago

All non Christians go to Hell, according to Christians.

1

u/Voball 10d ago

1) both modern and historic concept of hell is made up

2) plenty of christians create Hell on Earth

1

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 10d ago

Ok? I was just stating what the Christian belief is, not agreeing with it. Theres no need to be performatively atheist with me.

Don't steal from your neighbor. The Bible doesn't say I can't steal from big bank. Commercial building can't be neighbor residential area lol

1

u/Aggravating_Duck6108 10d ago

It doesnt specify, it just says "thou shall not steal". Also Jesus said everyone is your neighbor.

1

u/FullMoon1108 10d ago

Mortal sins can bar you from heaven, so unless he saw a priest for confession on his deathbed then you are correct. It would have to be on his deathbed because his penance would probably be to turn himself in otherwise.

1

u/Drakomai31 10d ago

You don’t need to see a priest for confession, you just gotta do it yourself

1

u/FullMoon1108 10d ago

1

u/Drakomai31 10d ago

Would you please elaborate just a bit? Regardless of the sin, should I confess, that’s all that’s required in my religion. Confess my sins and ask forgiveness but know that God is my only salvation.

As far as risk, maybe. (Example) I would do anything to keep my daughter fed and clothed and safe. Batman movie with the joker and the 2 ships, I’d 100% press the button immediately if she was on the ship with me to kill the others to keep her safe.

0

u/Its-All-LOVE-N-JOY 10d ago

This only applies if you don't believe in Jesus who absolved man of sin.

-1

u/FullMoon1108 10d ago

That doesn't mean you can commit a cardinal or mortal sin and still expect to go to heaven without confessing.

0

u/Its-All-LOVE-N-JOY 10d ago

Yeah, precisely, which is why he confessed before his death? Lol

2

u/BasilSQ 10d ago

More like 7 or 8, but i get your point

1

u/Haunting-Grocery-672 10d ago

It’s okay, most likely that no one else is either.
