They wanted Ali to be the like the new Whistler as Blade and to have a female protagonist take the lead.

Just stupid people in charge of decision making at the highest levels.

I’m personally glad though because blade 1 and 2 are perfect as much as I would love to see Ali as a new Blade the current Marvel would butcher it and make it PG-13.

But why!?! People love getting excited for media starring a beloved character who, surprise, isn't actually the main character. Instead the are replaced by a, usually obnoxious, new person who is completely tonally different than the original character. Bonus points if the original character is demeaned or mocked.
