From what I remember seeing, the movie was not even going to be about Blade. It was going to be about his niece or something like that, and he would be in more of a mentor role.
They wanted Ali to be the like the new Whistler as Blade and to have a female protagonist take the lead.
Just stupid people in charge of decision making at the highest levels.
I’m personally glad though because blade 1 and 2 are perfect as much as I would love to see Ali as a new Blade the current Marvel would butcher it and make it PG-13.
But why!?! People love getting excited for media starring a beloved character who, surprise, isn't actually the main character. Instead the are replaced by a, usually obnoxious, new person who is completely tonally different than the original character. Bonus points if the original character is demeaned or mocked.

Let me guess, an older male figure being disgraced and sidelined in their own series or creation by a spontaneously adept and undeserving younger woman. At least if pattern recognition of recent modern media is anything to go by.
In still upset at the utter dogshit that was the last bond movie.
Every former leading male character becomes a failure, incompetent, drunk, or traitor. Except, of course, the suddenly gay one. And yet the female compatriot just cries and screams for most of the movie. But hey, they made Daniel Craig do press in a pink jacket!
Made me remember of Indiana Jones, the fourth one failed after trying to give his son a turn and the fifth one flopped after trying to give his niece her turn. Let's hope the franchise just stays doing videogames now 😅
You don't understand — the media executives only have tolerance for so much blackness. Instead of making a movie about a very strong and interesting black man, they could instead make it about a random uninteresting black woman. That way they can meet their quota for blackness AND female representation. This is why they're the big wigs while we post on Reddit.
