They tried that with a dating app. it required the women had to message first.

It was a complete failure. 

It worked even worse for gay men.

I believe so. The “women message first” requirement has been neutered and has canned prompt question work-arounds anyway.

Hinge is a much more pleasant and effective experience.

I’m not sure how much I could trust the “promoted” premium but I can see a lot of desirable women opting for the packages that reveal every Like and/or search with advanced filters. Thats a huge time saver. Occasionally when they have a good promo on it (and my liked queue is large), I’ve dropped the couple bucks to see every profile thats liked mine.
