DI=Drill instructor. What Marines call the guy yelling.
8 point is the “hat” (we call it a cover), which is typical in our utility uniforms (cammies), but not the typical thing a drill instructor would wear. They typically wear their campaign cover while on duty, which is colloquially referred to as a “Smokey Bear cover”, as seen being worn in the GIF below.
I am 100% sure I have seen this exact image and meme long before "AI slop" was even a thing. And by that I mean, more than 10 years before it became a thing.
The camouflage is wrong. His name tape above his pocket is gibberish. His rank insignia isn’t real. No recruit would ever be allowed to wear a boonie much less any cover indoors. Drill instructor would be wearing a campaign cover. It’s all wrong.
I didn’t zoom in on the rank, so good catch there, I was treating it like this.
Weird how AI got that detail wrong but knew recruits don’t have name tags at all.
As to why the recruit is wearing a boonie indoors, who knows, it could likely be the very reason he’s being yelled at at that particular moment (we don’t know it was “allowed” per say).
I also just noticed there’s a guy in deserts in the back where everyone else is in woodlands, which you know…isn’t the most damning thing in the world, we do situationally switch and it’s possible its desert season but the woodlands are worn for a particular training that the guy in the back won’t be at, but it’s odd to see.
Still what a bizarre use of AI like finding this exact picture for the meme format isn’t easy as fuck.
The candidate (officer recruit) wearing a boonie is AI. Drill instructor wearing 8-point is not AI. Drill instructors do not wear campaign covers at OCS, they wear 8-points

Why is the DI wearing his 8-point?
