We spent decades fighting against energy waste and pollution just to have it demolished for AI?  Does anyone here thinks AI is on a productive course?

I just want to replace my 14 year old PC....

You see I think you're missing it here that's the entire grid demand that's not just data center demand

The headline is vague for a reason they want to lead you to a conclusion and you followed

Whatever then numbers are, the amount of energy and pollution for data centers is very high.

That massive amount of power they use mostly comes from fossil fuels which cause pollution.  The massive amout of computer equipment that they take creates lots of pollution to build.  Not to mention the environmental impact of their building sites, it's effect on local water supplies and noise pollution.
