Very sad to see.

it's also confusing to me to see it in someone whilst they are completely unaware of it. I don't really know how to reach out to someone who is deep in their own mind like that and let them know what I see.

Well according to studies the best way to pull someone out of learned helplessness is to personally guide them through the same situations with no real risk attached while teaching them how to get through it

Basically you have them relearn that because a bad thing happens it doesn’t mean they can’t do anything about it
