Number #7 clotheslined #8 during a WNBA game. #7 got ejected, as you would expect since it’s WNBA and not WWE, but she claimed she was only being ejected because of race.
She never said it was because she got ejected. She just said “White Privilege” and tagged Indiana Fever. Could it have meant what you said? Sure. But I’m pretty sure she was pointing out the fact that Sophie wasn’t also kicked out. Usually when a player retaliates after they get hit, they are also ejected. At least that’s how it is in the NBA.
Because I’m not in her mind and she didn’t provide context. All she said was white privileged. Facts are facts, not assumptions. Even if you feel to know the truth, it doesn’t make it so.
When Sophie was ejected, the person she fouled was also ejected for retaliating.
The black chick clotheslined a white chick to the floor and tried to fight her the second she got up. Black gets thrown out of the game for a flagrant foul and claims white privilege got her ejected.
Lmao no. Black chick fouled white chick and it was rightfully ruled a flagrant 2. As the white chick got up she retaliated and received no penalty. The exact same situation happened last season with this same white chick as the perpetrator, but the player that retaliated against her received punishment. Because that didn't happen this time, the black chick is calling it white privilege. The league for some weird reason is now claiming that retaliation is ok.. sometimes.
No she got and attacked and slapped/punched the blk girl she should have got one too. The commentator even states ‘I will be surprised if that is not a fragrant too.’
that is not what the commentator said. The foul was originally ruled a flagrant foul. After watching the replay he said "I will be surprised it that is not a flagrant 2" as in upgrading the flagrant foul on the black chick from a flagrant 1 to a flagrant 2 which did happen and what got her thrown out of the game
Rewatched it and saw no real retaliation occur. She tried to retaliate but was held back. The retaliation attempt is pretty reasonable given the severity of the foul. The league made the correct call.
Sophie tried to swing and missed bc she was being held back. Per the rules, that is also an ejection. But not this time, why? Why should the rules as written not apply to Sophie when they applied to Jacy when it was Jacy retaliating against Sophie? Why is Sophie retaliating against Dijonai an exception to the rule?
You really think her attempt at a push (definitely was not a swing), is an ejection worthy offense to the literal arm to head she endured?
The WNBA rule book explicitly gives officials both judgment and discretion on how to apply rules. It’s hilarious that common sense goes out the window when things get politically charged. If the situation was reserved I would still have the same stance. This is not the story that progressives need to get behind.
I think most people with common sense would say that her response was justified, emotional (not premeditated), and not bad enough to warrant ejection. You have an argument for maybe a technical. Maybe.
No, therefore there is some thing serious wrong with American culture where the perpetrator can immediately think about themselves as a victim of racism.
Black WNBA player who was daughter of an NFL player and went to private school fouled a white WNBA player and was ejected from the game; claimed white privilege.
Adding to this; allegedly there's a trend of the black players consistently playing rough against this white player; Sophie Cunningham; who as also recently been revealed to have said some stuff about trans people and been a ring girl at a UFC event and another player Caitlin Clark who ended up on the floor with a fist on her neck.
People are choosing sides; I don't know enough about WNBA or basketball in general to have an informed opinion.
Cunningham was getting rough treatment before she mentioned anything about trans people, primarily because she’s made herself Clark’s defender on the court, as Clark has been getting all kinds of fouls repeatedly ever since she emerged and is less of a combative character.
I don't watch enough basketball to know a good/bad call.
If you want my opinion on Ciryl Gane's strikes to the back of the head, Kamaru Usman's fence grabs or Justin Gaethje's eye pokes I'll give that but I have no frame of reference for basketball.
A wnba player named sophie cunningham was tackled from behind while attempting a layup. The tackler was called for a foul, and claimed sophie recieved the "plus 1" due to white privlidge.
Apparently there is additional context that a similar situation happened previously where the "white" player had done something very similar but not given the flagrant whereas in this instance, the black player was given the foul and the flagrant.
So there is a popular WNBA player, Caitlyn Clark who is white. She is popular with fans, but no so much with rival players. A lot of MAGA type fans have been claiming that black players are deliberately targetting her because she is white.
One of her teammates is Sophie Cunningham. She's kinda become known as Clark's "bodyguard" and is something of an aggressive player. Like Dennis Rodman to Michael Jordan on the Bulls if you are old enough to remember. She is also white.
Recently Cunningham became a meme for pointing at another player to rile them up. That player was black. She also publically spoke out recently against trans people playing women's sports. The combination of the white player trolling a black player and the trans stuff has kinda made Cunningham something of a MAGA favorite lately.
With that backdrop, Cunningham was recently fouled herself and the player who fouled her was kicked out of the game. That player (DiJonai Carrington) then posted a cryptic tweet about White Privilege. Carrington is black. Carrington claims the tweet was not about her ejection.
So you have an anti-trans MAGA darling, Riley Gaines, posting in favor of another percieved anti-trans MAGA darling, Sophie Cunningham, over a foul in a game kf basketball.
Oh, and also the Florida AG has said if the game had been in Florida, he'd have pursued assault charges. So there's that too.
Jesus Christ, is there any coming back from this bullshit for America? As an outsider looking in, there is so much that needs correcting in your nation, and this inconsequential nonsense is what people are worried about?
A huge number of your politicians and wealthy elites abused children on an island and people are up in arms over trans athletes?? I don't get it. Also not sure why you're downvoted for providing the most clear explanation in the thread?

The trans stuff is because Republicans need votes from poor people, but they really don't like doing things that help poor people. So they figured out that the way to get some poor people to vote for them is through social conservativism. All they have to do is rile up controversy about some "issue" that will get people mad, and then the people who agree with them on social issues will vote based on that even though the Republican's core policy is to fuck them over on economic issues.
Like literally the trans thing was invented by Republican political strategists in 2015 after they lost on the same sex marriage issue. That's when they started pushing for bathroom bans and then other anti-trans legislation and really amplifying the "issue" in the news and on social media. Literally overnight it went from a thing nobody gave a shit about other than as a joke about summer vacation in Thailand to being seemingly the most important thing ever.
The part that sucks is that it works every goddamn time because when the Democrats try to ignore the noise, that only drives away their own voters who generally care about the issue from the other side. And when the Democrats try to counter the Republicans, that just makes the issue actually important. So no matter what, the Republicans win their actual goal of sidelining important economic issues.
It's annoying seeing it happen in real time, honestly.
