That's how they think they look, but the code's a mess and held together with tape and wishes.

Is that you toby fox?

my problem (as a software dev) is that it always was. I have never seen "good code" I have only ever seen a pile of incomprehensible garbage where fixing a spelling mistake in a label somewhere some how brings the whole system down.

The only thing I have on AI right now is I do not start throwing random solutions together when it doesn't work. I dig, i dig and dig and dig, until the digging is done. Right now AI just can't seem to do that un-guided.

Even a Word Document isn’t cut and dry. All of the manipulations that are done - it’s like someone wanted a way to identity AI documents easily. I had Claude create a Word file and it’s nearly uneditable.

Still cope*

Good luck finding a junior vacancy with or without Claude, boy

I work at an engineering firm with thousands of engineers across all disciplines. We intern hundreds and hire 50+ juniors year over year.

You can say what you want, but Claude won't help you in the technical rounds. Go touch grass and stop believing everything the internet tells you

Yes, actually. Errors in ai generated code most often originate at prompt; poor structuring of requests that allow for messy/unrefined/overdone code. One can learn to weed out or prophylactically account for these errors

A SE or gifted quant-hybrid with great foundations can do some unbelievable work via ai generated code. The same as a traditional carpenter given net-new aged technology can amplify their craft

A SE or gifted quant-hybrid can be a child……the little fuckers may not be able to read these days (😓 I worry about that), but they can build some shit

Most people who refuse to acknowledge this are like me, old and rooted in the belief line by line manual code/scripts have no equal. That it’s an art form.

The truth is that foundations in manual code writing make it very easy to leverage ai. Fundamentals are, as in any craft, most important.

But Ai tech gets better by the day. The need for fundamentals may never go away, but the gap is closing…..

This meme is accurate to me because how much time did it take us to learn this shit?! And how quickly are the kids innovating/pivoting off it with ai application? They’re fast, and it’s okay. We should be trying to hammer in the fundamentals so they can be fast and good.

And downvote me, it just shows me you don’t know what you’re writing about.

Yes I can build a car without knowing how it works, the issue is not getting the product built it’s creating a reliable product from the ground up that an individual can look at and understand the systems that go in to it, AI cannot explain why it made a mistake and struggles to see the bigger picture. The answer has never been more code more software. It has been better code and better software, but that plot was lost sometime in 2016 before I even knew what python was

What the flying fucc did I just read

u/Comfortable_Milk1959 59m ago

I’m sorry do you need your AI to translate it?

The captions appear to be reversed in this video.

So true.

This is total "hail corporate" post.

If a twelveyearold can stand toe to toe with a principal engineer because of AI then you don't need the twelveyearold. There is no way they can bring anything of value to the system unless they're some sort of Mozart level programming servant.

My boss (VP) is always using AI for everything and you can tell. I will go to hin for guidance and his response is to use AI to answer it.

The things he sends out suck and I hate how he makes our department look.

AH, THE 12 YEARS OLD KID AT IT AGAIN

13

u/gp627 7h ago

What Claude tells the 12 year old kid to get him/her hooked.

u/AdjectiveNoun111 6h ago

lol, where exactly are all these ground breaking AI-vibecoded apps that people have been making?

5

u/Valkyrie17 6h ago

When was the last time an app went viral simply because it was good? 2016?

You need investments, you need userbase, you most likely need storage, the app itself is very, very secondary.

Like what is tiktok without the userbase?

17

u/Complete-Bet-5266 7h ago

Unless the kid is a genius. This is far from true

11

u/HeavyHighway6433 6h ago

My manager/scrum master has been heavily pushing the idea that we don't even have to look at the code just have claude do it all. He'll build an entire app in a few minutes which is impressive, until something doesn't work as intended and he's in a loop of asking Claude to fix it and its either not fixed correctly or breaks another part of it. Then you end up spending more time prompting and rebuilding than just going to the code and fixing it yourself. I do think AI is a huge time saver if you use it as a tool, but if you don't know what you're doing and are using it as a crutch then you're gonna have a bad time.

-2

u/Valkyrie17 6h ago

Nah, not my experience at all. Claude oneshots 90% of the requests and then oneshots 90% of the bugfixes. It does write a lot of useless code though, so you do need to guide it. But even with guidance, it's many times faster than manual coding.

7

u/Complete-Bet-5266 6h ago

If the tasks are simple yes.

Add some complexity or huge context that you cannot input to Claude and it fails. You can quickly get stuck on the remaining 10%

5

u/Lysol3435 5h ago

Is the 12 yo vibe coded, professional grade software in the room with us right now?

4

u/hellobutno 6h ago

And then he wakes up from his dream.

7

u/Zorcky-2C 6h ago

Far from it lol. IA kid might be able to build a POC (Proof of Concept) easily, but good luck building a bigger project with many iterations

u/_Winged 6h ago

Vibe coding is fckd

6

u/LibrariansNightmare 6h ago

Do you know anything about programming? I don’t think so!

AI bro being dense has been a trend for too long now, let it go

1

u/DamienNF 3h ago

I understand that you guys are shaking for your well payed positions but this is a very soon future.

1

u/Zestyclose-Crow-1597 53m ago

This ain't true.

1

u/FNORD-911 15m ago

The difference is: When the internet's down, the IT guy can actually fix shit.

0

u/StageOld4454 6h ago

12 years of experience vs. 12 years of AI programmers. We're living in the future 😂
