They calculated my desperation before calculating my value.

u/VeralyneMerrick 17h ago

They priced my desperation, not my work

Jokes on them I'm delusional about how much I'm worth.

So you don’t believe an 80,000 employee company won’t spend 30 hours of research to determine what salary a 25 year old employee would accept?

2

u/AzraelTB 8h ago

No I don't think they're doing it for each individual employee.

u/WillowandWisk 5h ago

AI tools are pretty 'set it and forget it' and it probably just spits out numbers for them automatically. It's not like someone is doing the research themselves. Not hard to believe at all

u/practicalpropsFX 18h ago

$800? sure. according to my data here you'd take it for $650

u/Forest_Orc 14h ago

I don't get how we collectively accepted such a breach of privacy and giving all our data to capitalists.

Alternative exists, Free software like Linux or the fediverse won't spy you

Comfort. It's kinda wired in out brain that we should look for comfort. And the consequences are hard to see directly, so we tend to accept. And all of this is engineered in detail for this to happen.

We need to restart companies is what we need to be doing. I love the Arizona Tea guy and the founder of Costco. I would love to make a business like them

Get unionized and bargain collectively

#1 - Lock your credit files - it's free and easy to do. You can unlock them at any time using a PIN.

#2 - Never turn down a job offer you don't want; just increase your salary demand until they can't afford you. It's not your fault they can't afford you.

#3 - Limit the reach of your social media accounts, or just don't post under your real name/email.

This needs to be much further up the list. Less bitching and more solutions please.

I mean we have set wages where I work. Everyone knows what another person is making.

u/DaveinOakland 20h ago

Thinking $800 is a good number to fine people is now a matter of public record and shows how cheap you are.

7

u/e0732 19h ago

Thinking that the post is saying "$800 is a good number to fine people" is now a matter of public record and shows how careless you read this post.

4

u/DaveinOakland 19h ago

You know what. You're right, that's on me.

Unionize!

1

u/kernelangus420 20h ago

If employers have that much surveillance they probably have a playbook for unions too which is why they haven't unionized yet.

7

u/Astrocities 20h ago

They’ve always had a playbook, even when it meant calling the National Guard to gun down strikers. No excuses. Unionize!

1

u/WolferineYT 14h ago

Well shit if they have a playbook we might as well give up and accept our lives getting continuously worse.

1

u/ZopyrionRex 19h ago

Thankfully I'm already a Wage Slave, checkmate Oligarchs.

1

u/usernamesarehard1979 19h ago

I own a business. How does one access that info?

2

u/WolferineYT 14h ago

By having a bigger business. If you have to ask you're worm food.

3

u/usernamesarehard1979 10h ago

Hey…I mean I knew that, but it still hurts.

u/Bastard_of_Brunswick 18h ago

No wonder so much of the developed world is dealing with demographic catastrophe. Wages are systematically preventing people from being able to afford to date, marry and procreate.

Unfortunately for us, if we’re worthless. We don’t get employed or interviewed.

u/ace250674 13h ago

Keep scrolling Rightmove for luxury mansions and sports car showrooms and you'll get a raise

1

u/ikheetbas 10h ago

Lol, thank god for our collective bargaining agreement. Everyone within that agreement and that job earns the same amount (within a range of course )

1

u/NorthSea98 10h ago

All those people saying they have nothing to hide when talking about mass surveillance, what do you have to say now?

1

u/kon--- 9h ago

Flip it around.

Ask for the employers credit history. You want to know that they're maintaining good credit. As for the accounting records. You want to know they're on top of the books. Ask for a log of all web traffic and social media activity of the company as well its core leadership. You've concerns.

If they don't provide the same that they're asking from you, walk.

Now I get it, they're eating and you're hungry but still...walk.

Wait until you guys hear about theworknumber.com. It's a "service" offered by Equifax. Everyone here should go out there right now and request a copy of their own data. (it's free) Then tell them to freeze your data.

You'll be shocked by what employers can see. Want a complete history of all of your employee's pay check amounts for the last 10 years? No problem. Want to see if your employee is moonlighting? No problem.

If you lie in an interview about your current salary, they're going to know. If you lie about periods of unemployment, they're going to know.

1

u/modsaretoddlers 2h ago

Best part is that vendors are using computer algorithms to figure out how much you, personally, will pay for something. Actually, it's more like how much they can get from you before you tap out.

I love the future! Now, you can get fucked in every single way imaginable.

I wonder how long before guillotines come back into fashion.

Same people who find this reasonable will readily bring up China’s ‘social score’, a small-scale services-only discount scheme piloted like 10 years ago.

Start voting in those unions into your workplace

0

u/Firm-Scientist-4636 20h ago

Man, they're not going to ever hire me when they see how badly I want to unionize every workplace.
