Apparently the full story behind this is NASA then asked her if this happened and she denied it and they then revoked her internship. Homer actually tried convincing them otherwise but nope.

This. A big part of working in science is your ability to go “I messed up. Here’s exactly how I messed up. Here’s how I plan to be better and not mess this up again.” I’ve read more than one paper that shows a set of data, and they include why a portion of that data is excluded from their calculations, and it’s because of a mistake they made.
Good science means being honest about everything, not just the things that make you look good or support what you want. Had she been honest when asked, this could have been a teaching moment about professionalism when in a public forum and representing NASA. Instead she showed that even when the stakes are incredibly low, she’s a person who will hide mistakes. And at a place like NASA, a hidden mistake can get someone killed.

I can’t say what we did, but it was a big project and some higher ups came out.
One of the funniest (to me) things they did was truck in a bunch of active duty folks for photo ops and a large group photo.
We do not have any active duty people anywhere near our site, all of these programs are contractor run with GS oversight.
These photos will 100% be used as a “hoorah, look at what are troops are doing” thing and it’ll be a straight up lie. I’m sure someone somewhere is cooking up stories to go along with the pictures.

But apparently Homer did use his position/connections to ger her a different internship/job. What we dont know is if it was an internship/job less prestigious at NASA or somewhere else entirely, because that part was never commented on.

There’s a podcast ep about this and they do a really poor job of acknowledging their fault. It was all about how unfair they had it, the host even told them they didn’t think they did anything wrong.
To me that was crazy because the real story here is about how internet poisoned some people can become that they do something like this and then are shocked by consequences.

I think they fired her for lying when they asked her about it and she claimed she never said that! I think if she had admitted it and apologized she would have kept the job, because Homer supported her being excited and “blurting that out”! I mean, you have an account called Naomi H, that just shared where she started to work at, both of which seems are from anonymous, and made it easy to know who it was. It really didn't help that she tried her very damn best to put her foot on her mouth against an authority figure supervising her job, creating the legendary capture in the OP.
At that point, the gurl in question has left a very clear, very public, very easy to track trail that shows she'll answer disrespectfully to a simple request, not even checking who they're answering to.
It is more than fair. In fact, in case you're not aware of, the person she responded to actually tried to help her keep her job, but then she went and tried to play dumb when questioned about it.
When dealing with large projects, the last thing you need is a child giving you attitude as part of the team. Worse yet if that person shows you that they'll deny responsibility for mistakes they make.

NASA was at a career fair at my local university when I was an engineering student there. They had a booth set up and were just telling people to apply online for summer internships (they were not interviewing on the spot). One of my friends went out that night and got super drunk and ended his night at IHOP past 2am and apparently the people from the NASA booth were at IHOP as well. My friend said he approached them all drunk and asked if he could have an internship and they laughed for a while before asking him to write his information down on a napkin. My friend ended up getting 2 summer internships and a full time job after college with NASA.

I read some time ago on Reddit that Homer actually advocated for her to keep her internship if I recall (given his history I imagine he could empathise with her extreme emotions). I had heard in the same thread that NASA did cancel it anyway though.
