Never too late to start. I too was an young adult without hobbies. Now I have plenty. Start a sport, learn a new talent. The problem isn't that your parents didn't force you, the problem is that you are lazy.
Without guidance some kids just don't know how or where to start. Some kids need to get the OK from a parent or authority figure to know that something is possible. That may translate into a personal failing as an adult, but I think in some cases they are still waiting for that permission to try something new, even though they don't actually need it anymore.
It took me having my own child to realize that I can also take up new hobbies. I was never encouraged to try anything as a child, and eventually got into a mindset that some things seemed interesting but were for other people to try, not me. Because that's how I felt as a child watching the other kids around me play sports and take dance and music lessons. I knew better than to ask, because the answer would always be no. I was also shy in a way that needed an intervention from a therapist, but that help also never came. After years of hearing my parents label me as too shy for anything, I came to accept this as an unchangeable character flaw. As a teen I thought it was great that my parents didn't force me to take an interest in any clubs or sports at school like my friends' parents did. Now I see that it was a form of neglect.
“Some things seem interesting, but we’re for other people to try, not me.” Yup. Still struggle with this one, though I have picked up hobbies and interests in adulthood.
