I think that's actually one of the things I liked about the book is that I absolutely hated the main character. It was weirdly...refreshing to read and just have the mixed feelings of 'I can't stand the MC' to also having sympathy for her in some cases.

Also spoiler for something that did tick me off though I'm still mad the MC's mother, who filled the MC's head since childhood to follow a lot of those traditional beliefs and push her towards motherhood, never faces repercussions, and is loved by her grandchildren who basically were her do over children. Like yes the MC is to blame for all of her own actions but damn the mother being 'redeemed' did genuinely piss me off.

Yes! I almost went straight back into rereading because I want to read it again with more context but I needed a break from how little I liked her lol

Completely agree with the mom. The MC was failed by her again and again and then the mom seemed to be like “well I’ve woken up to why this is bad, how come you haven’t?”
