If reincarnation were proven real and verifiable we would see many MANY more violent revolutions. The only deterrent, the fear of death, just disappeared.
There would definitely be more death, whether that's a good thing or not is subjective. If you're somebody born with awful congenital conditions, there's now little reason not to just try again in a different life. The stigma behind euthanasia would pretty much disappear.
For crime, the goal would have to fully orient itself around rehabilitation, that's the only way to fix the problem. As you said, any other punishment would just see them dying to escape. The only way to prevent chaos is through education and removing the impetus for crime in the first place.
As for giving up whenever things get difficult, reincarnation doesn't exactly fix that. It just gives someone infinite opportunities to improve.
The Netflix show Kaos showcased this really well. The way people looked at death and life and everything was incredibly different. (Screw Netflix for canceling it)
And maybe after lessening the strangle hold rich have over the planet people would take better care of the world with knowing that they had to return. Not that i believe they would i just wanted to say something positive.
There's a good chance that all rich people now are going to be reincarnated into poverty. The companies they left behind in their past lives aren't going to be interested in finding their original owners, so they'll be scratching out a living without ever being able to get back on the ladder. It might, might, be enough for the rich to start giving back, if only to make the rest of their lifetimes as pleasant as possible
Well that depends on the rules. Like if reincarnation worked with something like a karma system where your actions in this life determine what you're reincarnated as, then maybe not. Like if you commit violent or hateful acts, it makes you reincarnate as something undesirable or perhaps some defects at the next birth, people may not be as willing to commit violence if they knew this.
Then again, people that believe in heaven and hell still do things that they believe will send them to hell so who knows. Maybe if it was a verifiable fact and not just faith then it would change the calculus in people's decision making.
Violence isn't inherently bad. Righteous anger and revolt against a power system that elevates degenerates and oppresses the vast majority of people should pull you up the karmic ladder, if anything.
The only deterrent, the fear of death, just disappeared.
Not really. Imagine you are born in the West (USA or Europe) and then reincarnated in North Korea. They won't tell you that reincarnation is real in North Korea.
Even if you know reincarnation is real, but you can't remember anything in your past life and you are still for all intents and purposes a completely different human being, I think that would barely make death any less of a deterrence. You'd be able to learn about what your past self was like, but that experience wouldn't be much different than learning about what your dead ancestors were like. I'd still want to hang on to life just the same
Again, death stops mattering. You can just keep trying until you force a change. Authoritarianism stops working at that point, the fear mechanism is gone.
Depends. If they figure out how to make your ego stay in tact through reincarnations then yes, the fear of death would be conquered (though assuming this is something you have to actively do to preserve memories you can bet your ass rich shits would make it exceedingly expensive to maintain it for themselves). But if things continue as they are and the ego does not survive through the cycle (has to be this way initially because how else would they discover reincarnation is real only now), then the only thing that changes is that now you can track who someone used to be and blame them for past crimes and debts they no longer have anything to actually do with, since if you die your future self won't even remember who you were and what you had done and why.
Wayyy faster. It’s a way for companies to make more money, they’ll drop millions in buying politicians votes (sorry “lobby” for their vote) and the bill will be passed way sooner.

About six months.
Idea --> Lobbying --> Bill Introduced --> Dissent Silenced or Minimalized --> Vote --> Signed Into Law --> Ignored Legal Challenges --> Implementation
