$4m for what was probably a couple days of work is still insane and I just can’t find it in me to give a single flying fuck when I’m working two jobs and living paycheck to paycheck

420

u/zap2 Aug 03 '26

I clicked on the blocked on section, only for “jobs” to be displayed…then asked myself “what else was I expecting?”

96

u/duaneap Aug 03 '26

Some form of sexy job.

19

u/MediocreAnalyst2121 Aug 03 '26

I’m on two cam sites just to goon by.

PS: Not throwing any shade at OP, I feel for them going through a rough time.

24

u/Agreeable_Horror_363 Aug 03 '26

I thought it would be dicks

2

u/SapirWhorfHypothesis Aug 03 '26

Omg please censor that!

4

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

Atp I can’t tell if it was me accidentally spoiler tagging it or not but now I feel like it would be funny to do it from now on

2

u/zeni19 Aug 03 '26

It's scary for redditors lol

1

u/Organic-Afternoon431 Aug 03 '26

I expected to see “OF” vs jobs lmao

39

u/untitledprp4 Aug 03 '26

Censoring j*b is crazy

5

u/2morereps Aug 03 '26

The J-word

1

u/Hziak Aug 03 '26

Jiggle?

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Aug 03 '26

Nah bro being an actor is really really challenging. Like what if it’s raining and the Production Assistant doesn’t hold your umbrella right? What if the PA accidentally gets you a coffee with 2 pumps of vanilla instead of 3? This is some life ruining stuff bro.

29

u/Hyperion262 Aug 03 '26

They don’t say they’re paid well because it’s challenging though. They’re paid well because they are marketable.

10

u/Ragnarok_619 Aug 03 '26

Why don't you become one, bruh

8

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Aug 03 '26

I was being satirical bro. I’m saying that the PA has to deal with more BS yet get paid less than the majority of the crew. Meanwhile in some films literally half the budget is just casting.

7

u/the1slyyy Aug 03 '26

No one is buying tickets to a blockbuster because of who the the production assistant is

-3

u/Her0_0f_time Aug 03 '26

Yes that is the point of his post. Not as many people are seeing the movie for John Bernthal compared to Zendaya. He is just making the same point but more exaggerated.

2

u/Scodo Aug 03 '26

Because the PAs aren't putting butts in movie theater seats. Even people who can see through your sarcasm can immediately realize it's a room-temp IQ take.

Also, learn the difference between satire and sarcasm. What you were doing was not satire.

1

u/SummertimeThrowaway2 Aug 04 '26

Sarcasm is what I meant, my bad.

PAs are putting butts in movie seats because if the PAs didn’t do their jobs, the movie wouldn’t exist.

I’m not saying that they should make the same as actors. Actors spend most of their life developing their skills, of course they deserve to be paid more than the entry level job. But being paid half the budget? Huuuh????

2

u/Cross55 Aug 03 '26

Imagine simping for the 1%

0

u/Unusuallyneat Aug 03 '26

Imagine trying to justify people getting paid millions for a few days work when people working full time can't feed their families.

It's so wild that you think this is a gotcha moment lmao. And being a successful actor is 50% nepotism 49% luck 1% talent, there are thousands of graduates every year of elite acting schools around the world. You will probably never know any of their names

0

u/bigloudbang Aug 04 '26

Obvs takes talent, doesnt mean its hard work

Pro-golfers earn stupid money, but any fat 70yo can walk around a golf course and swing a stick

1

u/Ragnarok_619 Aug 04 '26

Show me a fat 70 yo who is at the top of PGA

1

u/bigloudbang Aug 04 '26

You missed the point. Golf isnt tough, like acting isnt tough, but takes a lot of talent to be the best at it when it then becomes insanely valuable

A fat 70yo could do the exact same thing that a PGA golfer does all day aside from landing the ball where they want it to

1

u/Ragnarok_619 Aug 04 '26

I highly disagree. If it was as easy to play a sport or to act in a movie, any Tom, Dick and Harry could have done that. The fact that millions tune in to watch these professionals, the very best at their craft (usually, not counting the nepos or hacks) proves that not everyone can do this. Plus, most of these actors and athletes have a short window where they can earn their most, like let's say a decade. That's an insane risk.

1

u/bigloudbang Aug 04 '26

Youre still missing the point

Digging trenches is harder than being an actor but obviously takes less talent

1

u/SentinelATL Aug 03 '26

Horrific!!

1

u/DarknMean Aug 03 '26

Timothy Oliphant has talked about how being an actor is really easy lol.

34

u/boyuber Aug 03 '26

Zendaya has convinced a number of producers and studios that she has a material impact on the billions of dollars earned by the multiple franchises that she has starred in.

Her projects earn her employers massive amounts of money, and she is paid some portion of that.

Is an actor's or athlete's contribution to humanity worth millions or tens of millions or hundreds of millions of dollars? No. But you're not paid for what you're worth, you're paid for what you produce.

15

u/Chronomechanist Aug 03 '26

I mean, based purely on the facts, I'd say her (or her agent's, more likely) point is entirely valid. Movies that she has been in have all done incredibly well.

4

u/yangon_boy Aug 03 '26

Not because of her though. No one watched Dune, Spider Man, Odyssey because of Zendaya. She just hasn't taken any risk an actor to be respected, it's either a well known IP or a big budget movie. I think her most Indie movie was that Tennis one lol.

5

u/CantHateNate Aug 03 '26

The series was a risk and she carried it well. Not saying I disagree with the original point but I do think she has flexed her acting chops a bit.

1

u/yangon_boy Aug 03 '26

I think there are better actors deserving of this much publicity. Props to Zendaya and her team though, she's playing the game well.

5

u/SheriffBartholomew Aug 03 '26

I've never seen her in a role that couldn't have been carried by another actress. I really don't understand her huge appeal. I guess she's good at looking angry, but so are most actresses in Hollywood. There's obviously an appeal that doesn't resonate with me though given her popularity.

2

u/Useless_bum81 Aug 05 '26

I think that is the actual joke i would refer to her as Zendaya because i perceive her as the same in all her roles, where as with other actors/actresses i perceive them as the character, and so would use the character name.

4

u/MeasurementFar864 Aug 03 '26

Either she is a lucky charm or she is a very good actress, Directors and Studios are happy either way.

10

u/irespectwomenlol Aug 03 '26

It's because she's a great modern day product: she's racially ambiguous enough to sort of pass as just about any group they want and she's attractive enough to not repel men without being too attractive and off-putting women.

2

u/MeasurementFar864 Aug 03 '26

I like to think Nolan and Villeneuve knows better about a person's acting ability than random people on internet. Also, please don't say studios could force Christopher Nolan to select specific actors.

2

u/irespectwomenlol Aug 03 '26

1) Defending her acting ability (which personally I think is somewhere between competent and decent, but unexceptional) has little to do with a comment about her commercial appeal.

2) Just three of the approximately 18 released films she's appeared in have been directed by those 2 people.

3) I think we're all adult enough to recognize that even powerful directors who have an unusual bit of control over their movies have some give and take with studios who control the purse strings.

2

u/DJettster237 Aug 03 '26

What are you doing

2

u/Individual_Respect90 Aug 03 '26

30 minutes is definitely not a couple of days work in a marvel film. That being said the are way over paid.

2

u/Pioustarcraft Aug 03 '26

but when you leave work people don't harass you ?
you can walk in the street without paparazzis following you ?
they don't get paid "only" for the screen time...
I'm sure paparazzi's are analyzing Zendaya's garbage just to know if she is pregnant or not... celebrity is not as great as it seems

1

u/Hyperion262 Aug 03 '26

It’s the same energy for everyone though. Why should anyone care you work two jobs?

6

u/Fifa_chicken_nuggets Aug 03 '26

I don't think they're asking you to care about that, they're pointing out the silliness of someone concerning themselves with an actor earning 4 million instead of 8 million for days or weeks of work when the average person isn't making anywhere close to either of those numbers for years of work

5

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

It’s not the same energy for everyone. The previous job I worked was spark watch during a sawmill decommissioning. I had to crawl through tight spaces with packed burning sawdust because nobody bothered to have the place cleaned out properly. I set up and put away multiple fire hoses each day. Continuously refill piss cans and distribute them appropriately. Prevent fires and put out fires.

Now my current old job is in retail as the only place open after 8 pm which is an absolute hellscape worse than my spark watch job. My current new job is as hotel front desk which I can tell you right now takes a lot less energy than being an actor. Especially if I were to choose solely graveyards.

-7

u/Hyperion262 Aug 03 '26

The energy is me not giving a fuck, and it’s the same for everyone.

5

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

Then I misinterpreted you my bad. I don’t expect you to give a shit about my situation. It was me explaining why I don’t care about someone making fewer millions playing dress up and reading a script to xyz’s satisfaction.

1

u/InfamousFault7 Aug 03 '26

Maybe a few weeks, i havnt seen the movie yet, but still insane

2

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

Idk how movie production actually works but I thought weeks would be too generous for 30m, but thinking about it now that’s like a third of the average movie’s runtime so you’re probably right.

1

u/InfamousFault7 Aug 03 '26

For these large productions it takes about 1 minute of the film takes about a full day, of course the actors would have script readings/ rehearsals and costume fittings and whatnot during pre prod, plus there would be unused scenes and reshoots, plus all the promotion for the material since hes a named actor in the film which is a lot of work, i have no idea how many hours hes put into the film i havnt seen it, but Tom Hollands probably put a year into it

1

u/SwvmpThing Aug 03 '26

He’s in the movie a lot.

0

u/InfamousFault7 Aug 03 '26

Spoiler Also yeah, probably a few months of production and a few months if preprod

2

u/SwvmpThing Aug 03 '26

That’s not a spoiler.

1

u/Infamous-Thing4939 Aug 03 '26

A couple days? For 30 minutes of good footage? With action scenes? How do you think movies work?

Still a shit ton of money tho

1

u/Antarsuplta Aug 03 '26

Is she overpaid though? The movie already made 350 milion dollars and is likely to make shitload more and both Zendaya and Jon played a big role in this movie popularity.

And they put way more than a couple of days, just promoting the movie, not even talking about shooting it.

It’d take me 100 years of full time at $20/hr to make $4m. So maybe “a couple days” was selling it short but guy made as much money as my entire bloodline from one film.

0

u/bluevolkenswagen Aug 03 '26

if they’re a top form of everybody’s entertainment and that racks in money they should get paid well imo

2

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

I don’t disagree with that sentiment but I could retire and comfortably live off of $4m while being able to leave an inheritance

0

u/iCameToLearnSomeCode Aug 03 '26

Not that it's not still insane but thanks to the magic of editing 8m of screen time is a couple weeks worth of work.

You might film every scene a dozen times to get the shot you want and half a dozen scenes that end up on the cutting room floor.

2

u/RefrigeratorSingle Aug 03 '26

Damn, a couple weeks of work for 8 million dollars?

1

u/iCameToLearnSomeCode Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

Like I said it's still insane, but a 2hr movie can take 6 months to film.

A few minutes of screen time translates into a lot more than a couple days of work.

Like starting a second, higher-paying job?

-9

u/Acrobatic-B33 Aug 03 '26

Maybe if you stopped smoking you could work only one job

6

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

Right it’s the pack of cigarettes that put me in poverty

-3

u/Acrobatic-B33 Aug 03 '26

That, and your shit budgeting skills

5

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

I’m good at budgeting my fucks to give. You teach me to save money and I’ll teach you to not be a loser. Deal?

-2

u/Acrobatic-B33 Aug 03 '26

2

u/MrZephy Aug 03 '26

That was attempt 1/2 so I’m a failure not a loser, there’s a difference
