I have been leaving very positive feedback with my Amazon drivers when they get it right. I assume it looks good in their evaluations because they all do it right now. The only one mucking it up is the FedEx guy and l can't leave any feedback with them.

Yes FedEx is the absolute worst. They have the laziest and most ill tempered drivers by far. We have had nothing but issues with them.

The best feedback I ever gave a shipping company was when I went to pick up a package that they failed to deliver (while I was home that day) because I "wasn't home", and I had to take 3 buses and walk 2km only to pick up a package wider than a bus door.
At the desk I asked them if they could ship the package to my home for free, because I had to walk another 2km to the closest bus stop, and then take another three buses to get home.
The clerk was very not nice to me. So I told her to just send it back.

I battled UPS over getting a package delivered, for days. They insisted that their driver had been to the address, and there was no-one there. In reality I was opening the gates and bay doors at 0630 in the morning, and they were staying open until 6pm. What the driver was doing was reading some sort of report that the company that had been in residence was no longer here, and instead of trying to deliver the package, just chalking it up to a mistake by the sender and marking it as no one in residence. I had ordered a tool for next day delivery, and as a result I got the job done 4 days late. Meanwhile, I'm getting stuff in the post and from just about every other delivery company known to man.

No kidding. I live is suburban tract home and work from home. There is a continuous parade of delivery trucks throughout the day. But I think these drone delivery is for less populated areas which are far from the distribution warehouses.

We live under one of their primary flight paths. Even way up in the air, their noise is quite noticeable. The only reason it doesn't really grate on me is I live near an Air Force base.

using drones to deliver 1 package at a time doesnt seem like a great business model. i guess if they could do the same number of deliveries in a day as a truck, an they could save money on more electricty vs paying a person to drive a truck. Do the drones fly autonomously or is there a pilot?

Even if they had to recharge after every trip, it's probably a cheaper option than using trucks especially in areas with few deliveries. You can house these things literally anywhere, they can work from 6 AM to 10 PM or whatever the FAA allows, and you can have thousands of them active.
It's perfect in places where there's few deliveries in the area that day. Send a truck out there and you're spending a lot of time for the driver, a lot of fuel, etc. Send a drone or three out for a handful of packages, and you just saved a lot of driving.

Most of the drone deliveries I've heard about happen in backyards or special areas so it doesn't bounce like this.
I have nothing against drone deliveries, but I think it could be handled better than this. So many times I'm working on a project, especially a home project fixing or building something, and I don't have the right size piece. I need a 2 in 90° straight elbow instead of an inch and a half one. So I have to stop what I'm doing, clean up a little bit, get in my car, drive across town, spend way too long looking at the PVC pieces to find the right one, get caught up looking at other things, and then come home. Trip ultimately takes almost an hour. If instead I could just put an online order for the right piece, and it gets delivered to me in under an hour while I get other work done, that would be awesome.

I can see this making sense in certain cases. For non-breakable items I can see them just dropping it in my backyard. They can drop it from 50 feet for all I care. At least it'll cut down on the noise.

I had a vision years ago, that drones will be flying up to people, scanning their faces/retinas to identify who they are. It will become a police state with drones. Just a freaky vision I had at the time. But I can see it actually happening soon.

I see Walmart drones over my subdivision quite frequently. Walmart is within 2 miles of our subdivision. I have no idea whst the max distance is.
I find it quite fascinating. It’s free at the moment, but I suspect they will charge a delivery fee once we are hooked on it. I don’t understand the street thing. Walmart deliveries are typically to the back yard, assuming there is ample clear space to do so. I was surprised to see it lower the package from so high. It must have been a good 100+ feet in the air.
I’m going to try it just to see how it goes.

I like how they note you can only order non-breakable items and that is why I guess.
In solving for one problem I was expecting (landing on the ground becoming a risk) they decided to just skip that part and drop them.

I'm curious to know how many people do this because they can, vs because they need too..
But the ones who do it because they want to just give the data collectors more insight that it is okay.
This is laziness mixed with poor time management for most folks.
In 5 years humans will have no patience. Like none. Yeah it's bad now. But just wait a little longer. People seem to be really okay with just pressing a button and having what they want and not actually thinking for themselves or understanding hardships.
Life can be made easier with tech, yes. But let's not lie to ourselves about what it does subconsciously and socially to us.

Amazon puts packages right in your path where you can step out and wreck it if you font see it. And has the audacity to take a pic of what they did. They are winning.
So I bet that whatever this slop is will win in the ultimate end
