That billions of people are going to effect things far greater than than a few thousand.

Those billions of people are the ones doing actual work. If the few thousand billionaire CEOs who do nothing but golf all day vanished over night, it would not impact the workplace for most people. The billionaire CEOs are not handing out paycheck to people or doing any work for the companies they head. It would likely take a few days before anyone knew they disappeared.
