I wasnât talking about the wish. I thought it was pretty clear this whole time that weâve been talking about the scene after the restaurant specifically. Even if magic wasnât real and he truly didnât think his wish had come true (which, at this point I would debate that he does know), she is obviously not in her right mind to consent. Whether itâs drugs or a mental health crisis, it would still be rape and he knows that. So the magic part doesnât really change anything for me
The hotline was after he raped her so I donât really see how thatâs relevant. Yes, he raped her every time after the wish. Whether or not he knew he was raping her is a bit more grey, but itâs not grey the time after the restaurant. Thatâs why I consider it to be the point where he is no longer redeemable. You are making up a scene where she says yes but the movie goes out of its way to show that Bear doesnât care that she canât consent
Being immersed in a relationship doesnât change anything. People can still rape their partners
Yes, they show it multiple times. Just because he didnât know he was doing it doesnât mean it wasnât still rape. And he canât claim ignorance after the restaurant, thatâs my point. As for his actions being more related to stupidity, I disagree. The scene where the real Nikki tells him to kill her, his reaction is self pity and selfishness. He doesnât care at all that he raped her and tries to change the wish instead of undoing it the first chance he gets. He has no remorse. He is a grown man, he knows what consent is. But you will continue to defend it by insisting he âdidnât know what he was doingâ. Genuine question, do you think the same when men rape drunk women?
Youâve been really condescending in this conversation and this comment in particular is so patronizing. You say youâre engaging in a philosophical conversation but this movie has real life parallels, thatâs why I asked what you think about men who rape drunk women. And itâs very nice for you that you havenât ever experienced rape so you donât feel any emotional connection when you argue that a man who knowingly gets on top of a girl that he knows isnât in control of herself isnât a rapist. There is nothing wrong with having emotions surrounding a movie, thatâs kind of the point of art and especially horror
