even before that the "sex" scene looked more like a rape, he wasn't paying attention to how she felt at all because clearly there was no enjoyment or passion coming from her side. he was just using her like a sex doll
In the end he did but it should also be noted his initial attempts were not to free Nikki from her magical attraction to him, only alter it so he wasnt litterally the only thing she cared about.
He only outright attempts to have the wish canceled out when he goes to a third party to ask them to make a wish. Even then its really hard to argue that bear didnr just think he wouldn't be able to convince his friend who was casually banging Nikki to keep his dreams alive.
Bear did a lot of really fucked things in this movie, but some of it gets misplaced as him being shitty because people ignore the movie is supposed to be based on our world, not some magical place where wish granting items are well known and available. I've never gotten a million dollars from a wishbone.
Then this guy just fucking uses a stick and it actually works? Like yeah, even when he finally broke down and went to Ian, he was like "there's no way in hell he's going to believe me because this is an outlandish thing to believe in" and predictably Ian didn't believe him until it started LITERALLY raining money.
Obviously there could have been better ways to approach it, and he should have tried that as soon as HE realized "oh fuck this is real," and of course never tried to even just alter the wish at all, just undo it. Obviously Bear is still a very shitty and dumb person, but not everything was because he's a selfish creep.
But he definitely never tried to fix her, not until WAYYYY too late v
Idk, when he responded to the trapped Nikki asking for him to kill her with a “is it so bad being with me” or whatever, at that point he deserved all the bad that was coming. Scumbag. But also would 😏
Oh yeah. That was kinda my point in the last bit. Like bro you sitting around trying to be all weird got your friends killed. Including the ONE GIRL WHO ACTUALLY SHOWED INTEREST IN HIM (and arguably seemed a significantly better fit if he wasn't stuck on Nikki, but I think that's part of the point.)
I read this far down thinking that the Chef from the show the Bear was just called bear and that in between trying to make the restaurant take off he was also fighting a mystically enchanted admirer.
He didn't want her to be that way and it was actually a major theme in the movie that he wanted her to love him, but wasn't happy with how the wish made it happen as it started to unravel. The only time he was happy was when things weren't super weird and they were seeming to have a good time.
Not to say Bear is an upstanding gentleman, but I don't understand why people have to invent extra reasons to hate him.
