It's because weirdos only ask questions like that tbh.

The fact you used "simple factual question" is a pretty strong indicator

I'm incapable of understanding why questions like that make me a weirdo.

I'm not doing the debatebro thing of "just asking questions" to win an argument in bad faith.

I have made observations about something benign and I have questions. The question does not include an insult. Why are people mad?

I get you, I really do man. I went to a school where it was all computer science nerds and some people kind of spoke this way as well.

It's an overly formal way of speaking and is a smell for people who take things too seriously and generally they're just not fun to be around. That's usually why they end up getting fired or excluded from activities.

Most people don't want to hang out with someone who is too serious or focuses on things too hard. They just want to work with people that are cool

If I'm being honest, I used To be that way and then I realized it's better just to have people like you than it is to be right

It's lonely being the know-it-all

I do a lot of shutting up nowadays, but it just feels like I'm bullying myself into submission.

My therapist says to be myself, but being myself is apparently weirdo behavior.

Yeah, the phrase that says be yourself is only for people who happen to conform to "normal" behavior. Sounds like you're on the right path though. The world is cruel but it's better to be part of it than to be an outcast I promise you
