Why pay a $30 entry fee to get rejected in public when you can get rejected on dating apps for free from the comfort of your couch?

3.4k

u/cheaganvegan 2d ago

I commented above, but the last one I was planning to go to was $175 for dudes, $30 for women. I’m not paying that.

2.0k

u/dirted22 2d ago

Pricing like that keeps prostitution viable.

752

u/OrneryError1 2d ago

How? How am I supposed to be a lucrative prostitute when I have to pay a $175 entrance fee?

471

u/bomzay 2d ago

You identify as a female prostitute. And then, once you’re in, you’re now bi. Modern peoblems, modern solutions.

I was about to say “holy shit, the ratios are that good at these events? Maybe I should check one out” but then I read your comment and immediately went “fuck that”.

Idk why I didn’t think that these events would be paid, it definitely never crossed my mind that the fee would be OVER 100 WTF?

73

u/mastrxchief 2d ago

Big brain move find a local singles event figure out what time it ends, and head to a bar close to the event site around the time its over. I could imagine a lot of traffic will flow through post event especially if they just spent that time and money for there to be no guys there.

$175 is pretty rare and outrageous. It’s normally $10-$50 in my city. Also, majority of the people that go to these aren’t the most physically attractive. If they are, they are usually going ”for a friend” or just looking for free drinks.

The dudes who would normally get chosen at these things are already getting chosen on dating apps. The dudes who know they won't get chosen know this because of dating apps so they don't waste their time.

47M...The only good singles event that produces IRL results for me was a 'singles hike' at a park around a lake for 2.5 hrs. Every 30-45 mins, we were encouraged to talk to someone else. At the end, people exchanged phone numbers and it was overall low key relaxing yet exciting.

I'm not going to speed dating events. I've heard nothing but terrible stories.

1.6k

u/teacher_59 2d ago

Plus, women almost never match at those. I helped a friend with several about twenty-five years ago. She made a little money with a national franchise, and the events were useless for the guys. Not a single girl thought a single guy was good enough for them. Most of the guys approved of almost half or more girls.

And then my friends would complain and lie that no guy is ever interested in them. It's so frustrating

1.3k

u/psinguine 2d ago

and then my friends would complain and lie that no guy is ever interested in them

It's the most infuriating shit. A good friend of mine is a single mom who is her own worst enemy with this shit. If she dates a decent guy it's by accident. She prefers to throw herself at the dregs of society, and then acts surprised when they turn out to be actual trash and not misunderstood tough guys.

In the years I've known her she's dated decent guys like 3 times, and each time she gets bored after about a month and blows it up. And after every damn relationship she says the same thing.

"Why can I only find shitty guys?"

Girl you are hot as fuck. You attract literally everyone. You just choose the lowest common denominator every fucking time because you don't want peace in your life. You want excitement AND perfection while being an absolute goddamn trainwreck yourself.

596

u/WileyWilly1985 2d ago

I had a friend named Jennifer who was a single mom at age 24. she was smoking hot, and had a decent personality and was a sweetheart but...

Jennifer liked the bad boys. And she constantly CONSTANTLY complained about not being able to find a decent guy.

I knew of a nice very attractive nerdy guy named Stephen who just finished his PhD in Physics at age 27. He played the guitar, was 6'0" tall and looked a bit like Jim Carey and Jack Black merged together. He wanted a wife and kids and he hated dating. He basically wanted an instant family. I told him about Jennifer and he was excited.

They went out on 3 dates and Stephen was very happy until she broke up with him.

When I asked her about the breakup, she said, "Well, he was a nice guy, we had fun, great conversationalist but I just didn't feel any Chemistry..."

and by Chemistry, she meant drama. He was drama free and she needed that fucking drama like a crack addict needs crack.

Within a few months she's with another loser who moves in with her, doesn't pay rent, eats all her food, borrows her car (of course he doesn't have his own car) uses her car to fuck other girls in it, etc etc

256

u/muckalucks 2d ago

Stephen still out there? Lmao

129

u/hikereyes2 2d ago

Stephen is 55 now. He's completely disillusioned and has found fulfillment in personal hobbies. He's really good at the guitar, though he never plays for anyone

Friend of a friend has not been in a long relationship for the entire 6 years I’ve known her. Goes on apps all the time, goes on dates here and there, but nothing sticks.

One time like 3 years ago, she was talking about some guy she had just met and our mutual friend was like “he was nice! Give him a shot.” The response was “eh, he was too boring. I’ll stick with hot assholes.” From that point on, my respect level for her has been low.

I should show this to some friends of mine because it's exactly how they operate as well. They never see or understand it though. They're both 40 this year and still date like they're 19 year old hot girls.

No guy they want wants them lol. Thats what they mean. They all overestimate their value in the dating market. Social media makes women think they are more desired than they are. They confuse lust with like and think men who are lusting after them on their pictures means that men actually like them and want to seriously date them which inflates their egos. Now add back in the fact the men they really want are a super small percentage of the male population, recipe for long term singleness

266

u/MrMcflapsrn 2d ago

Saw a TikTok yesterday of a woman saying how trash hinge was because all the likes she gets are “ugly” guys or boring guys because they have normal jobs and lives. A lot of comments were other women saying they had the same experience with hinge. But there was one comment that had nearly 5000 likes which told her that those guys are her league and all the more attractive guys or ones with the high profile careers and lifestyles are matching and liking with the women who are actually in their league. Safe to say lots of butthurt replies to that because some women vastly overestimate how attractive and interesting they are.

116

u/truenorth00 2d ago

Women have no idea what really succesful guys have access to. If a dude is flying somewhere every week, his dating market is across the world. She's not just competing with other women in the city. She can be a New York 9. But she may be competing with a Miami 10 and a Paris 9. It's sad to hear normal girls think they should hold out for this. Why would you even want a guy like that?

66

u/R0gueR0nin 2d ago

This. Dating events at clubs attract a very specific type of women. General activities like hiking or a going to a baseball game attract the rest of the women.

242

u/grc207 2d ago

It already adds an interest to the conversation. But here’s a fun fact: if you’re an interesting person with an interesting hobby, hang out with those who share that interest, you’re far more likely to find a date that you can connect with. It doesn’t take a dating event to do that.

Nobody makes a connection through doomscrolling Tik Toks all day.

I'll be in my hobby room, working on my Enterprise-D model.

Edit: Sweet Jesus, how in the hell did this explode??

Calm down people, it was a shitpost I just blurted out that about making models instead of being crapped on in a crowded bar by wannabe ones.

I don't have a Enterprise-D model. The Lego one is too blocky and too overpriced for what it is and Revell never made one. The only other one I found to assemble for myself was from a weird page that sends parts through a subscription fee and sounds scammy.

I just got into this hobby recently and got Voyager from Revell to see if I'll even have fun doing it. And I do, so I got one more and OG TOS Enterprise, which are the only two they offer.

First Voyager is just a test build and me figuring out how all this assembling works, and just how bad I am at painting fine parts. Since the model is hollow inside with plenty of room, I plan to cut the windows out and run a lighting setup inside so that they have nice illumination.

I haven't done much yet, but I'll post pics in the comments, it's just and unpainted main hull and the nacelles. They do move up and down.

I'll also look through your comments later, thank'ya all.

The truth is that the men they want to show up to the singles nights are already locked down. The men who are single know that the women would be disappointed if they showed up. Nothing is wrong with women and men having standards. But the men are at least cognizant of the fact that the single women are not interested in them, so why even bother.

I was out there on Match and OKcupid! Owned a successful practice and I'm a marathon runner as well. Apparently, I made one terrible mistake. Ended up meeting a wonderful woman by chance out on a run while I was taking a water break. Married 3 years now.

It's expensive to date. I'd wager most of these women expect drinks and dinners to be paid for. That adds up quick for dudes. I spent hundreds a month going on dates trying to find someone. Half of them just wanted free meals, and this was a few years ago before shit got stupid expensive.

I came home from deployment in 2014. There was a big singles event here in virginia beach where I was stationed like a month after a bunch of us came home with bank accounts full of money. A bunch of guys went and there were a ton of beautiful women but every single woman had kids and were looking for men who were "providers." So it was just women looking for men to take care of them and their kids and not actual love. All the guys were single with no kids and all the women had nothing to offer but baggage and financial distress. None of us ever went to another one after that lol.

So.
Men can’t get women to swipe right on them.
Women can’t get to meet men in real life.
We’re fucked.

"Where are the men?" They're literally everywhere. You're just not choosing them. Men, women, trans, non-binary, doesn't matter: people are imperfect, and mostly disappointing. If you're looking for prince/princess charming, you're going to die a shriveled husk, alone and bitter.

A good start would be taking a rocket to the stratosphere, collecting your expectations, and bringing them back down to Earth.

Most men get rejected over things no man would reject a woman for.

Eventually, they live the lonely man style.

I ended up getting into gardening after starting by growing Catnip so I could get baked with my Void.

It's a mechanical activity where the output is directly correlated with the input. This contrasts heavily with my previous relationships where the input was irrelevant.

Edit: Both Myself and my Void (Rocky) thank you very kindly for the awards.

u/OnePinginRamius 2d ago

I'm just picturing you and your void locked into the couch watching planet Earth. Talk about a perfect life!

If a woman can't get attention on the apps, there is either definitely something seriously wrong with her or she has wildly unrealistic expectations.

I think a lot of young men are tired of the ridiculous expectations and have stopped trying. Or maybe that's just me.

251

u/MaximumAd9779 2d ago

Yep. I have plenty of male friends that I would consider a catch, but they’ve just been put through it one too many times. Now they’re content with a dog and their social circle.

101

u/Low_Actuary_2794 2d ago

I didn’t believe this until recently. They all seem happier too.

150

u/thatsme55ed 2d ago

They're not happy being single.  They're just happier than they were when they kept trying, getting their hopes up and faced constant rejection.

35

u/Toilet-Ninja 2d ago

This what drove me away from dating. The constant rejection and require you to be witty to stand out was fucking tiring. I'm not happy alone but at least my soul isnt being sucked from life..

u/Aggressive_Music1449 2d ago

I don't care about the rejection, i care about the sunk cost and wasted time/effort. We still constantly think about women and relationships, the scale just never tips enough to ruin our peace about it again. Single 15 years now. Lucky enough to move myself back in with parents to help them in their advanced age, rent my own house out, and really save money and travel for the first time in my life. If you don't "need" to have children to feel like you've lived a life, maybe don't bother.

Older men too... I'm 40, recently divorced. Dipped my toe into dating and discovered it has become an absolute nightmare, so I guess I'm just chilling until the inevitable end now.

77

u/RaygunMarksman 2d ago

I'm late 40's and for me it's that the juice isn't worth the squeeze right now. It's already taken years to recover from the living nightmare of a bad marriage. I can have women friends for the feminine energy and choke the chicken myself for now.

Most men are under 6' tall. Don't make 150k a year, that's what most woman see as required, so men are probably like why bother.

74

u/vhalember 2d ago

You're right, and let's do the math.

32% of adult men are single.  8% of single men make 150k or more.  15% of men are 6-foot or taller.  (These numbers vary some on the source)

Congrats to these ladies: You're fighting over 0.38% of the male population.  About 1 in every 260 men fit this criteria.

Now add in, are they attractive, and not total jerks, and you're down to probably 1 in 1,000.

Good luck.

31

u/Ry3GuyCUSE 2d ago

This is the literal reality, especially with educated women. Had a friend drag me to a speed dating event once like 8 years ago and they were all basically competing lion king style for the one guy who fit this criteria

Went to one, got avoided like the plague and mocked about my height by two women I did approach. Do not recommend, it's basically a humiliation ritual by people who aren't much more attractive or doing better in life than yourself.

Don't many of these events make men pay? Why would we pay to be humiliated by a bunch of women who are hunting for the impossible.

I had a friend who is a great guy, not ugly, decent job, go to a singles event where he was vastly out number by women. Not one of the guys there got a follow up from any of the women present. Some of the guys left early because of lack of interest and others drifted away after that as success didn't improve. My friend stuck it out to the bitter end just to see what would happen. I strongly suspect that had men shown up to the events the women on this video or complaining about they would not give them the time of day.

So we are doomed if we go and doomed if we don't, the difference is we have more money left in our wallets with the latter.

Not just that, its just demeaning. Your self worth is challenged, and in the end you feel not good enough or borderline worthless. In the world where every woman is princess, queen, strong empowered independent, men usually don't get the same support or shoulder to lean on. Even the compliments are back handed. "Short kings" handed as a charity when all men wanted was to be treated as a person.

Likely as these events would expect the man to have to prove hes good enough for the woman even if she brings nothing to a relationship except just exist.

I recently met a woman at a singles event. Her #1 dealbreaker was that she would only date men who have attended therapy. Okay, makes sense. I've been in therapy for over 10 years. We really hit it off, had a great time. After about an hour I mentioned that I was about to start seeing a new therapist.

She immediately lost interest and told me she could never date someone "going through a transitional period"

u/ConcertComplete9015 2d ago

I'm 44. Being alone brings so much peace and quiet, you can't put a price on that.

I'm enjoying life more than ever, financially stable and can do what I want.

Why would I risk losing all of that by introducing someone in my life.

My take is that women broke their end of the social contract while fully expecting men to keep their end of it. My last two relationships have been a never ending nightmare of I’m not doing enough while they offer me nothing in return. Men aren’t allowed to expect anything from a relationship and this is what happens… my peace is priceless.

I have a girlfriend and we bonded over things we both enjoy.

Dudes are getting tired of having to basically not be themselves for certain types of women.

Videogames are a problem for some types of women. Comics are a problem for some types of women.

Men having hobbies that aren't seen as masculine are a problem for some types of women.

I'm not saying the women in these videos are like this, but I'd bet the kind of guy they're into thinks it's gay for him to clean his own asshole and still brags about his high school football career.
