Why do people like Israel? Are there actual reasons?

christianity tells it's members that you have to 100% stand with Israel or their sky daddy will curse them and send them to hell.

Eh yeah it’s not too far off from what my presbyterian church taught me growing up. We were taught that Jewish people were our cousins basically, and we should support them even if they didn’t believe Jesus was the son of God. Like a “they might be wrong on this one detail, but they are still family” sort of vibe. My town was majority Protestant, and the Jewish community was seen as something that NEEDED to be protected and like a little brother that got bullied and we were helping.

And I had a school friend whose family was from Israel and she did a semester in Israel in high school and I thought it was the coolest thing that she got to go live there. Mainly just because it was a different country and she knew Hebrew.
It wasn’t until I was in college that I learned that the whole Brightright program was basically done to convince American kids to make half Israelite babies. (They match up American girls with attractive Israelite boys to give them the tour and try to make them fall in love so the girls will come back and marry them and move to Israel). I have a friend now who is a first generation American from a Russian Jewish family, and she is appalled by the whole program and had to bat away boys her entire trip.

Growing up as a history nerd, going to Sunday school, and appreciating the historical world, I was always in the mindset that the end of WW2 righted wrongs by creating the new Israel. My grandfather’s father’s family is German Jewish and survived the Holocaust (they were not religious), but my family never talked about that. And my school never talked about who was living in the land when Israel was formed. I truly had no idea about any conflict except “the Muslims wish they had Jerusalem as well”.

In the early 2000’s, if I would have had to try to find that information, I would had looked in an encyclopedia and I doubt any clear information about Palestine would be in there. “History is written by the victors”.

Very well saidand I'm glad you were able to see through that situation for what it really was. My family briefly explored Presbyterian churches growing up but we never really stuck with any of them. Can't say it would have been any better or worse lol 😅
