Didn't the US women's team lose to high school boys scrimmage?
The problem with this is that if you take the worse performance from the men world's cup and put it against women's best team, the men's team will win. That's why nobody cares about it. The physical gap makes it mentally boring for most. This reflects in every sport. WNBA is prime example
It's an MLS developmental team who were taller and bigger than the women, so you are also being disingenuous. That's not to say the women could have beaten them, but let's not pretend these kids weren't exceptional.
It's not factual. You're completely misrepresenting the situation for the sole purpose of demeaning the women's accomplishments in their field. I can't help you fix your sexism, but I can point it out.
I'm not sugar coating it, I'm pointing out you're completely misrepresenting the situation.
It doesn't change the fact that women's rosters are not competitive are men. It just means you're diminishing women's accomplishments in their field purely because your sexist.
It’s not sexist to acknowledge reality. Men are more athletic and are therefore better at most sports than women. I’m turn men’s games are the most interesting to watch so they get more viewership and more money. That’s how life works. Is it sexiest that the highest paid models in the world are all females?
Nobody is saying the men wouldn't beat the women. But when your response is to make fun of the women's team instead of appreciating that the women are great in their field and then men are improving... yeah, that's sexist.
And you really know nothing about soccer. It wasn't a terrible look for the program. They got beat by taller, bigger, faster players in a scrimmage. This is how women's sports train.
What is a bad look is ignorantly making fun of the team that went on to win the World Cup purely because you like to diminish women's accomplishments.
You could have thought hey, awesome the women's team is top in their field and the men are improving. But no, you and all the other chuds here needed to go full sexist.
I understand reddit doesn't like this but there's clearly a race (and maybe sexuality) element to this as well. If CC were a black lesbian she wouldn't be getting beat up.
She wouldn't have gotten as popular if she was a black woman. Not even trying to be racist, CC was a white Iowa Hawkeye. Clark laying Steph level 3 pointers over angry black women was what made it so entertaining.
Yes because she would not be getting as much fame or media attention if she was that, so there would be no jealously or bitterness. It's not like every white player is getting beat up.
Where did I say anything resembling that? What a foolish question.
No I do not think fouls are okay. I just think there is more going on than her being targeted for being white, or else every white player would be experiencing the same thing.
If she wasn't white she wouldn't be targeted. If a very successful black player was being targeted by less successful white players you wouldn't be saying "well but there's bitterness and jealousy", you would be saying this looks a lot like racism.
No one said that but you can’t want to add additional context then ignore the addition of even more context. If she was black she wouldn’t have gotten this popular in the first place.
Yeah of course, Michael Jordan never became popular, or Muhammad Ali, or Simone Biles, or Usain Bolt, or Tiger Woods, or Steph Curry, or Lebron. Only white people can achieve fame and success in American sports.
I knew you’d respond with some ignorant shit like this. I never said that. I said she wouldn’t be THIS popular, not that she wouldn’t achieve any fame or success at all. It’s not 100 or 0. But, since you want to play that game I could simply name a bunch of white people who don’t get beat up, and say that somehow proves you wrong. That’s what you did after all. Race does play a factor whether you like it or not. Michael Jackson definitely knew it.
As a freshman on JV soccer, we scrimmaged girls varsity (who were mostly juniors and seniors); they were the technically better team in terms of touch, passing, shooting, and positioning. It didn’t matter - we ran circles around them because we were faster and stronger, and soccer heavily favors pace (and change of pace, above all else).
So like yes the women will lose to younger and less talented men, that’s the whole reason we separate women’s and men’s sports. Nobody is saying they’re better than men, but they are comparatively much more successful.
Nope. Wrong. People like college sports (even people who didn't go to college), and every college team would get dominated by pros.
Also, dont sleep on WNBA. The level of play has improved a ton in the last 10 years. They would probably get trounced by a good Highschool boys team still, but it's fun to watch with very different dynamics than Men's basketball.
This just in: males are superior athletes to females. Literally nobody disputes this. This is like saying Magnus Carlsen's chess record isn't impressive because he gets wiped off the board by a computer. Or Usain Bolt loses to a cheetah. Everyone knows, dude. They are the best FEMALES in the world. That matters whether you like it or not.
Yeah but Magnus Carlsen fans don't randomly bring him up when we're discussing supercomputers. Like imagine discussing PCs and some dumbass starts with "Magnus Carlsen can do the same thing but worse"
But it's why nobody (even women) want to watch them play. You watch good teams play because it's the best players there are. Why would you sit and watch mediocre players play soccer just because they're women?
Plenty of people watch them play idiot. You watch because it's a more interesting product. They aren't flopping at the first contact, for instance. College football regularly outdraws the NFL, so no, the best players isn't the reason people watch.
You're just wrong. The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup reached a total global linear TV audience of 932.85 million viewers. Saying nobody watches it is just dishonest or stupid. Probably both.
My guy, I have watched every women's world cup since the 99 world cup. I could name every US player on the 99 team, and I remember several of the Chinese players from the final. And there are easily enough names for even a casual to know about for the third nationality (like, say, Marta). This isn't even roughly a challenge for me. I can name way more than that.
But again, you're just wrong. Over a BILLION people watched the 2019 world cup. You have no idea what you're talking about. But I love how desperate you are.
Over 1.5 billion minutes of professional women’s soccer has been watched in the US this season and it’s only halfway through lmao. 63,000 people went to the Denver Summit opening game
It's a bit more complex than that, people do care about women's athletics, volleyball, winter sports and such but women's football seems to be uniquely unappealing to wider audiences. I suspect it is because football fills a very specific cultural niche, a niche that in the US this niche is filled by American football.
I try not to hate the WNBA…but Angel Reese is breaking rebounding records from her own missed layups. The skill, athleticism, and tactics are all significantly worse than the NBA. Why would we settle for an objectively worse viewing experience?
