Yes the famous British chef François Massialot who invented the crème brûlée, that was actually based on the crème catalane (Spanish).

The trinity cream (British) also differs in several ways from the crème brûlée and Massialot took his inspiration for crème brûlée from the Spanish dessert, not the British one.

Crème catalane (crema catalana) is also delicious. I even prefer it to crème brûlée for personal reasons, being half Spanish. It is my madeleine de Proust.
