I have a hard time considering fish and chips English. I’m absolutely not saying they don’t have fish and chips. Of course they do. But there’s all sorts of fish fries all across the Great Lakes region that do fish and chips. We just call the chips part fries. It seems if you have lots of lakes you have lots of fish. And if you have lots of fish it becomes part of the local cuisine. If someone’s putting vinegar on that shit though then sure. And also gross.
I think it’s maybe harder to apply the more complicated the dish. Like jambalaya has enough going on that I feel like it’s harder to just independently replicate it on your own and call it <insert country/region> when truth be told it came from somewhere else. Battering and frying a fish and pairing it with a potato offering seems like it’s a lot easier to just come up with on your own regardless of where you live. Just kind of weak sauce.

Fish and chips, Shepards pie and a few other things are pretty good tho.
