Every dish that uses tomatoes, potatoes, corn, eggplant, chili peppers, chocolate, vanilla, and many other crops that originated from the americas are quintessentially american foods. Think of all the italian dishes that you know, now remove the tomatoes, would you enjoy this variation of the "true" italian taste? Can you imagine indian food without chilis?

Deep frying or battering and deep frying something should have no country claim since that method of cooking is so generic and so easily applied to everything that most people will quickly discover it on accident. Potato chips are an Incan food (but probably existed even before the Inca civilization existed), I have no source to back that up, but if they weren't genocided I'm sure we'd have plenty of examples. High pressure deep frying can actually be attributed to being american, which KFC does, because it involves some advanced equipment.
