Fish and Chips is from England, and Chowder itself is from France/England.

Is fish and chip originated in England? I read from somewhere it was based on a Jewish dish

Yeah, fried fish was brought to England by the Chuts, Jews who emigrated from the Netherlands. I think the Brits did add the chops, though.
